Great video! I really enjoy watching you play AP Varus and AP Twitch as they function (somewhat) similarly. As Nashor's Tooth gets back its AH next patch and Cosmic Drive was buffed, I can imagine AP Twitch is still somewhat decent after the nerfs (I recall you mentioning how good AH on him feels). Could just be a bit harder to snowball early with the E ratio nerfs.

Also high Elo don't see much of tank champs after all the changes. They tried to make a tank meta this season but it was bruisers with big defenses and high damage so they had to nerf tank items so these bruisers don't build tank items. In the end we went back to all previous meta of everyone doing big damage numbers.

I main AP Varus top. It seems like it shouldn’t work and is just a cheese pick, but you’d be surprised with effective it is with proper spacing and positioning

@@roysmith1249 interchangeable with ghost or TP, depends on the match up. Flash is always a must
imo maxing q first is better most of the time since you usually don't have any meaningful AP items until you're maxing your second ability (unless you're planning on contesting objectives, then w max is better). the max Q base damage is higher than W early on, this also means that you can still do some good poke with just q instead of having to rely on stacks early on.
W helps with AAs, and it also increases the ratio of empowered Qs with blight stacks.. The Q cool down is so long you wouldn't shoot it without stacking autos first to lower its cd. Only last hitting minions is a reason to Q without having blight stacks.
As always thanks for your video, I have a question, wouldn't cull be better for more scaling as a starting item and if not why? I am a bad player but I like to think about certain concepts even though in my elo they make almost no difference.
Cull increases the risk of getting pushed out of lane, dying, or missing out on kills because of the weaker stats it gives compared to other starting items. If not for that, it would definitely be best for scaling.
You need Dorans blade to heal off minions early on. HoB is 3 autos so it heals u in fights
@@roysmith1249 By that logic, Cull would work too since it heals. Your actual reason for Doran's Blade is because it has % healing rather than flat healing (cull is like +3 health per attack and Doran's is like 5% healing per attack).
If you're going to give a reason, at least have numbers to back up your reason.
@dyanosis8498 I told you why it's better. I said it heals you. Obviously from the life steal. I don't need to give you exact math as to why it's better, it's better for sustain bc of Lane minions. Cull is taken for gold not sustain.

Ad isn't as easy to counterplay. Zhonyas or cleanse or anything negating ap Varus Ult makes him somewhat weak.
If only Awakened Soulstealer in pc because my Varus in Wildrift can literally spam his ult and skills everytime theres a team fight. Also the item reduces all skill cd per takedown so its op

Why do you think, killing low HP targets is harder with %dmg? Just think about it, lets say you do 50% of a target with 2000HP, 1000HP left, use it on someone with 3000HP, sure it does more dmg but there are still 1500HP left afterwards. So killing low HP targets is for sure easier, it just doesnt look that cool.

Additional reason ap varus is not played in high elo: If support buys a mikaels, AP varus loses most of his value.

One of most annoying enemy for ap Varus is Mundo. His passive simply counter your ulti without any interaction from him (no root, no stacks). And you have no way to drop it.
