  • No way too far... ;-)
Therefore, this museum visit takes us to the far north, more precisely to Oslo, to the Norwegian Defense Museum, which is located inside the Akershus Fortress - so in addition to the museum, there are a lot of interesting things to discover around it.
The Defense Museum is the main museum of the Norwegian Armed Forces and has been housed in an old arsenal building since 1860. The exhibitions show the history of the Norwegian armed forces from the 15th century to the present day.
The exhibitions provide an insight into the development of the armed forces, also in connection with technological, economic and political development. The main focus here is of course on representations and exhibits of weapons and vehicles, as well as uniforms, etc. of the respective time. There are also some excellent large dioramas on display, which make many scenes understandable to visitors.
In the museum you walk through different eras and missions, such as modern missions from the Second World War in Korea to Afghanistan and Libya in our time. In between there are missions in the Middle East and the Balkans as well as in Africa and the Gulf.
In front of it you will find the representations from the period 1300-1814 with interesting information and cannons, such as the Anholt cannon from the 15th century, which was already a breech-loading cannon at that time.
The next major section covers the area 1814-1905, the union with Sweden.
Another large and extremely interesting section is of course the area of the Second World War - here you can see, among other things, a Panzer I. However, a clear point of criticism here is that this and other vehicles are separated from visitors by glass panes of showcases in a separate room - so you can neither get particularly close nor walk around them - there is even a risk of being overlooked in the background.
A final major area is the Cold War in all its facets.
