A couple years ago we found the El Chico Gooseneck trailer that was manufactured by International Travel Trailer Inc. Since then many people have asked us what we did with it. We were asked about the hitch and if we had any interior videos or photos. We sold our trailer to Oklahoma Bugs shortly after we bought it but about 2 years ago another trailer surfaced in Colorado fully restored with a matching VW Bug tow vehicle. This past weekend we traveled to Colorado to see this trailer in person and get you guys some more video of this restored Gooseneck Trailer.
    Enjoy. JC.

Unfortunately as the generations get younger taking care of things becomes less and holding onto things becomes shorter.
The younger generations do not seem to value durability and life span more than having the latest and greatest.
Hence in my opinion our drastically accelerated environmental issues.

The frontal aerodynamics look like they are better with that trailer compared to regular ones - it looks like it would _push down_ the car and thus give better grip.

The VW bug was what International Travel Inc used in the commercial in 1974 to promote this travel trailer. It has become known as a WV accessory which it can be but some other small cars could be used as well. The bug would probably be the best choice which is probably why they chose it for the commercial.
It was a good idea as it looks like getting in and out of places would be much easier than when a trailer is hitched to the back.

Thanks for doing this video. Been wondering a while. I've got an idea to build something very similar out of fiberglass that would be more aerodynamic and lighter. That's a very well done build

@@markgigiel2722 all depends on how you use it. The way some people use fiberglass it's heavier. The way I would build would be a lot lighter and aerodynamic.

My mom had a yellow Beetle back in the day, then I got a new one and drove it for 9 years. Now I have a bigass fifth wheel camper and seeing this makes me wish I could wave magic wand and make the two worlds collide. I don't live far from Pryor Oklahoma and I'm surprised there isn't one of these out there. Seems to be some VW enthusiasts out there.

Just ran across this video. When my brother was assigned to Cannon AFB in New Mexico, another airman had one of these. My brother would only drive VW products his entire life and was very interested in this trailer designed as he loved to camp. When my brother retired in the mid 1980's, the guy still had the trailer and was stationed in Colorado at Peterson AFB, his last duty assignment before he was to retire himself. He had obtained a copy of the original plans and gave one to my brother. I would have to check with my sister in law to see if she knows where they are, as my brother passed about 4 years ago.

Nice work on the restoration and reinforcement of the trailer hitch/frame. It may also be an advantage to weld in a couple side plates where the frame makes the curve downwards for more rigidity. As far forward as the actual ball hitch is, it shouldn't interfere with any part of the car. The interior work is stunning considering how this looked the last time I saw a video of it! Very rare bird here... nice job!😍😁👍👍

Where the bolts come through the roof, you could make up a grab handle to attach via those bolts and tidy them up a bit.

      @shawnm3839 Před 5 lety +15

The bolts are a 100% half assed solution. Drilling wouldn't be necessary if some proper thought had put into the mounting. Bugs don't need more holes.

    Dear Volkswear.
Simply fantastic. Would have loved to see it run.
Bob did an extraordinary good job. He owns a great place too. The hubcaps and especially the tail lights are definitely not my kind of taste. Original ones would be much nicer respectively fit better. But, as always, this is a matter of personal taste.
Thanks a lot for saving restoring showing taping editing uploading and sharing.
    Best regards.
