- Transferred from VHS. Ralph's 2nd UK appearance in the UK, with Curly Ray Cline, Jack Cooke, Ernie Thacker, Ralph 'Hank' Smith and Ralph II.
There is quite a bit of song duplication between the 4 sets they performed, but still I think it's priceless stuff...
How Mountain Girls Can Love / Next Sunday Darling Is My Birthday / Wildwood Flower / Stone Walls And Steel Bars / Cannonball Blues / Homestead On The Farm / Man Of Constant Sorrow - A Little Boy Called Joe - Put My Little shoes Away / Little Maggie / I'll Answer The Call / I'm Willing To Try / Pray For The Boys / Mississippi Sawyer / Chicken Reel / Rank Strangers / Children Go Where I Send Thee / Hills Of Home / Nobody's Love Is Like Mine / Will You Miss Me (When I'm Gone)

Was there that day excellent
thanks for posting daddy curly Ray he was the best thank you
He was indeed the best!
At the Edale festival Curly Ray was made "Sheriff of Edale" by the organiser (I'm told, that was the only time that happened).
By the way - If you haven't seen the 1983 Santa Monica - Bluebird Cafe show, I'd definitely check that out - it's great to see the Clinch Mountain Boys in a relaxed club setting:-

The best ever
pat shepherd yes he was the best in my book
Thank you so much for capturing and sharing these true pieces of British / International Bluegrass history! Chris M
Thanks for this. I was at this thing! Hank Smith RIP.
Quite weird to watch this. I was living in London at the time and was penniless but scrounged up the money to get up there to see Ralph. This set changed my life. I now live in Bristol Virginia just down the road from where he's from.
Seeing the JMB, Alison Krauss and Ralph back in the late 80's early 90's were the peak time for us in the Bluegrass scene. I consider myself very lucky. Those days are gone but fantastic memories.
How long was Ernie Thacker lead vocalist? Of all Ralph's vocalists, I think he did most poorly on the harmony part with Ralph.
+superchef78 - Ernie was 16 when he joined the CMB's (on mandolin) in 1988. He played mandolin on the "Like Father, Like Son" release (1989) & then took over on lead guitar/vocals some time in 1990. He held that spot for about 4 years before Kenneth Davies replaced him.
+BluegrassBuzzbomb Kenneth Davies? Who is that? Did he record anything with Ralph on record? Are there any recordings of him with Ralph on CZcams? I have never heard of him before. Do you know who came after Ralph's Thackerian era?
+BluegrassBuzzbomb I thought Ralph was being facetious when he said he'll soon be 17.
+superchef78 - Kenneth Davies was Ralph's lead singer for about a year (1994-95). If you search for "Winterhawk 1994 Ralph Stanley" on youtube, you'll find some videos with Ken. There's also a live audio set at www.frobbi.org/audio/ivor/Stanley-1994/index.html
In the studio as a CMB he played on the Ralph Stanley & joe Isaacs - "A Gospel Gathering" CD and is also one of the guests on the live "Clinch Mountain Boy Reunion" 2xCD / "Ralph Stanley's 50 Year Reunion" DVD from Ralph's 1996 festival.
County Sales also have an album (on CDR) by the Scott County Boys - "Standing Room Only" which features both Kenneth Davies (post CMB) and Mitchell Vandyke (pre CMB)...
PS: Another oddity: while Ernie Thacker was with Ralph he and Jr Blankenship released a cassette "Old Virginia" (Lundy LTD 162) 1992... with a cover photo taken by Mitchell Vandyke.
