You notice that the audience....are quiet...like no joke quiet....this is a huge amount of respect to Mr. & Mrs. Rogers and how he's impacted a lot of lives when they were kids and even young adults who were entering the real world.
True. The same happened when Fred Rodgers came on The Arsenio Hall Show back in the 90's. So much respect..

I had an awful scary childhood. I used to pretend mr. Rogers was my dad and when I would go outside I would have pretend adventures with him. His show was my safe place. And I am convinced his tv kindness kept me sane until I could get out of there on my own.

Brilliant end to the interview Jimmy-- what a gracious thing to write 243.
For people who don't know, Mr. Rogers had this belief that "143" meant "I love you". There's 1 letter in I, 4 letters in love, and 3 letters in you. So flipping 143 into 243 aka "We love you" is just a beautiful tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Rogers.

Washing another man's feet is a symbolic Christian thing to do.
It is really humbling too. My dad and I were falling on hard times, one day we washed each others feet during "communion" and it truly softens the heart.

@@Kyonak well, it comes from ancient times in the middle east when feet would become really dirty. To wash someone's dirty feet was a humbling submission to serving people, so the symbolism continued throughout history in many Christian churches.
Mabe that explains it so it doesn't seem so strange afterall.

The lovely Mrs. Rogers (lovely inside AND out!) is now in Paradise with her beloved marital partner.
Life is like a train ride.
The passengers on the train are seemingly going to the same destination as you, but based on their belief in you or their belief that the train will get them to their desired destination they will stay on the ride or they will get off somewhere during the trip.
People can and will get off at any stop.
Just know that where people get off is more of an reflection on them, than it is on you.
There will be a few people in your life that will make the whole trip with you, who believe in you, accept that you are human and that mistakes will be made along the way, and that you will get to your desired destination - together, no matter what.
Be very grateful of these people.
They are rare and when you find one, don't let go of them - ever.
Be blessed for the ones who get on at the worst stops when no one is there.
Remember those people, they are special.
Always hold them dear to your heart.
Be very wary of people sneaking on at certain stops when things are going good and acting like they have been there for the whole ride.
For they will be the first to depart.
There will be ones who secretly try to get off the ride and there will be those that very publicly will jump off.
Don't pay any heed to the defectors.
Pay heed to the passengers that are still on the trip.
They are the important ones.
If someone tries to get back on the train - don't be angry or hold a grudge, let them.
Just see where they are around the next hard turn.
If they are buckled in - accept them.
If they are pulling the hand rail alarm again - then let them off the train freely and waste no space in your head for them again, ever.
There will be times that the train will be moving slow, at almost a crawls pace.
Appreciate that you can take in the view.
There will be times where the train is going so fast that everything is a blur.
Enjoy the sense of speed in your life, as it is exhilarating but unsustainable.
There will also be the chance that the train derails.
If that does happen, it will hurt, a lot, for a long time.
But there will be people who will appear out of no where who will get you back on track.
Those will be the people that will matter most in your life.
Love them forever.
For you can never repay these people.
The thing is, that even if you could repay them, they wouldn't accept it anyway.
Just pay it forward.
Eventually your train will get to its final stop and you will need to deboard.
At that time you will realize that life is about the journey AND the destination.
Know and have faith that at the end of your ride your train will have the right passengers on board and all the passengers that were on board at one time or another were there for a distinct purpose.
Enjoy the ride.

My Opinion! Bob Ross is the Mr. Rogers of Painting. He was amazing, look him up dude. Bob Ross had a painting show on PBS, where he would paint scenes from nature, while talking in a quiet, soothing voice the entire time.

agree. People change themselves. We can only inspire others to change. I had a friend inspire me in high school and I have subsequently (and without intending) inspired others. It is a powerful thing to learn your kindness, sense of logic, confidence, ability to critique and challenge your self have inspired others to make a step in bettering themselves. We also need to allow people to evolve. I see folks actively attempting to keep others from any kind of betterment of self.

Best interview Jimmy's done for the show. You made all the fans of Mr. Rogers proud. Mrs. Rogers what a sweet and lovely lady.
I didn't realize how much Mr Rogers meant to me. I watched him every day as a little girl who didn't have too many friends. I watched, and then I grew up and didn't think about it much. Until the day I heard the news that Mr Rogers had died. The tears escaped my eyes and I was surprised at my own reaction. I thought "you're being so silly. You didn't even know the guy.", But the thing is, I did. He was my friend. I didn't realize what a strong impact he had on my life until I realized he was no longer with us.
I'm with you, he was such a great man.

Once while working fred drove to work to do his tv show and at the end of the day, like everyone he went to drive home , his car was gone"and someone had stolen it. Fred reported it to the police and by the next day his car was parked at the tv station intact with a note to Fred Rogers, "we're sorry we took your car we didnt know it was YOUR car."
What a nice interview. Jimmy gets ragged on a lot but I couldn't imagine other talk show hosts doing this interview better.
It was a nice interview..Jimmy does get ragged on alot for alot of stuff...personally,I like the fact that he doesn't go too far into Trump jokes..it seems that everyone else relishes getting into it and it's getting old...I could not have imagined anyone else interviewing that lovely woman...Jimmy is a kind and decent person IMO

I agree! Jimmy seems like a genuinely sweet guy and he seemed so sincere here! I think that people fault his enthusiasm- but really, every host has their ways to speed things along to conform to time and to flatter their guests and to laugh at stories they've probably heard. Jimmy just does it in a really fun and silly way.
I think you're right. He's just so enthusiastic which rubs some people the wrong way and may come across as fake. I for one like it, it's positive, infectious. Jimmy's simply fun and refreshing compared to a lot of hosts who rely on sarcastic humor. I don't need politics or heavy subjects on my late night show.
Give me fun skits, games and interviews.

I’ve never been wild about Jimmy Fallon but credit where it’s due. He nailed this interview. It was lovely and insightful and full of positive sincerity. Mrs. Rogers clearly felt Fallon and the audience’s love and gratitude

mr rogers ' neighborhood was probably one of my first pbs tv shows i watched as a kid at tender young age. what an icon and he was one of the most genuine people on TV.
I didnt know people used to put acid into pools to keep black people from using them. This is so recent and insane!
I remember as a child hearing that people did things like that and thought "why would anyone do something so horrible?"..but that's the thing,children don't understand such things,they think everyone should love everyone..that's what I loved about Mr.Rogers is that he talked about "adult stuff" but in a way that was accessible to children but didn't frighten them..there's not alot of people who have that gift..but Fred Rogers was a special person indeed and he is still much beloved and missed...but at least with this new documentary his beautiful spirit will once again be brought to a world that sorely needs kindness,love,and compassion :)

TELEVISIONARCHIVES White people didn't get into the acid water. Black people would get into segregated pools as a protest, same way they did sit-ins at segregated lunch counters, and white people would pour acid into the water to harm the protestors and get them out.

One of the most remarkable men to ever live. And that part about the kiddie pool made me emotional, but shows what a compassionate man Fred was and the importance of equality. The closed minded way many Christians conduct themselves in this day and age is in fact very antithetical to the intended behaviors outlined in the book.
@@tek512 I don't think they were traditionalist christians I think they were more of progressive christians. Are they in the catholic denomination? My friar always said whoever that person may be, the way we approach them is still the same, with respect and acknowledging their dignity.
Fred and Joanne are so wholesome and pioneering people. I will forever be thankful for all of the important values and lessons that Fred taught us throughout the years.

Numerous times I've watched the video of Fred Rogers testifying before the Senate Subcommittee in defense of PBS, including in the documentary WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR? Every time I come away awed at Rogers' understanding and command of the human spirit. Even listening to Fallon's brief description gives me chills. It's a stirring moment of selfless oratory from a true American hero.

I'm finishing university with a lot of anxiety and I can't tell you how many times I've listened to Mr. Rogers voice just to calm me down. It's like a nostalgic and safe hug.
I grew up watching this show. He was a good man and presenter. Can't wait to see this documentary and the movie planned for Tom Hanks.

I’m 73. I raised two daughters who are near 50 now. Mr. Rogers was OUR favorite show. The three of us watched. I haven’t forgotten the lessons. Each and every day to be KIND is my go. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter if I was right or wrong. What matters is was I kind? Thank you, Mr. Rogers. And thank YOU, Mrs. Rogers for loving him and taking care of him so that he could so much to us. We are more than blessed to have had you BOTH! ❤️🥰❤️

i grew up feeling very lost and alone and Mr. Rogers helped me realize that i can be anything i want. i wanted to be like him my whole life. he really helped me when times were tough and he still does to this day. i can't think of a better human being to get the privilege to grow up with. he was the best neighbor you could have. it comforts me to know that he is in the neighborhood of heaven waiting for his television neighbors to join him. he will never die in my heart. he's very much alive and well. I'm tearing up as i type this because i loved the man so much. which i know he would say is ok. his heart and soul went into everything he did and i still smile just seeing him. he will always be my favorite neighbor. God bless Mr. and Mrs. rogers

I group up watching Mr.Rogers n how calming of a soul he was. I always thought I was the only one who just adored this man because no one would really talk about him much. I think no one ever admitted that they loved this man. So when there was talk about Mr,Rogers and documentary I was so happy knowing I wasn’t the only one, I felt finally he’s getting the recognition that he deserves. It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood!!

I loved Mr. Rogers so much! My Dad teased me about him and told me that Mr. Rogers had stinky feet when changing his shoes. I would get so upset with my Dad for saying that. Oh how I wish my Dad was here to go see the new movie about him with me.

I had an amazing childhood that included a daily ritual of watching Mr. Rogers with my dad when he got home from work. And when I had my son, I made sure that when he was old enough to watch tv he watched Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers.
