A little off topic and please, don't take it badly: For a man, one would have to say that he is a "gamin", not a "gamine". Apart from the different pronounciation, in French "gamine" means "little girl" and "gamin" - "little boy" :-) Thank you for your very informative videos! С приветом из Германии :-)

Ciana P. It's the same as women.
If you think about their ideal style it's a lot easier:
Remember Dramatics need straight long lines, so imagine a long stiff coat with a large v-neck and a contrast of colours, I always think about the style of drag queens.
A natural needs a loose style, just like a big white t-shirt and a pair of jeans, the hair messy. That would look awful on a classic. Classics are the ones that look most amazing with their hair neatly done and a classic suit. Noone else looks better in a suit!
Romantics are harder but always imagine classic like clothing but more round and shorter. A good example is the traditional wear of spanish or italian men bc there are a lot of romantics.
Now gamines. Just like women they need a lot of details and look amazing in child like clothing, a basic T-shirt with blue and white srtipes together with short pants probably soft fabric. In China, Japan and Korea there are a lot of gamines so a lot of cloth is designed for this body type.
      I hope that could help~

I would say that Michael Jackson might lean a liiiiitle bit towards Theatrical Romantic as he had massive but artistic hands, a square, horizontal jaw and neatly broad shoulders but with a narrow ribcage. He also had long, lean muscles on very artistic limbs; he was more tendon and sinew than muscle really, at his narrowest through the wrists and ankles. When he was at his heaviest & fittest, he put weight on directly in the rounds of his shoulders and thighs, then in the upper arms and upper back and his backside. Circa 1988 Bad Tour.

I'm not that sure about Michael Jackson as Romantic:
      - he was not short - as far as I know, he was about 1,8 m (some sources say 1,75 m, some say 1,77 m and some say 1,8 m, so let's assume he was about 180 cm tall, which is not very tall or a man, but definitely on the taller side) and I don't think he looked short. Romantics are not only about delicacy, but also about looking short. Michael had long vertical lines.
      - Romantic are about delicate bone structure. Did Michael have sloped shoulders or small delicate hands? I would not say so. He has a pretty definite chest and shoulders, his hands were pretty large, long and wide at the same time. He may not be very tall, but he had a pretty elongated bone structure. I do see some sharpness as well.
      - Michael had very delicate facial features, yin dominant, that's true. At the same time I have an impression that the surgeries and weight loss in later years emphasized and revealed pretty sharp bone structure. In other words, I believe, he in fact had Dramatic bone structure. Dramatics do not look strong or musculature, but they look long, and I often feel they look more delicate than they are if they are thin.
      - More to the point, my opinion may be controversial or even absurd for some, but I do believe Michael Jackson was Soft Dramatic with a strong Youthful/Ingenue essence. As far as we know, Soft Dramatic is ornate and has the royal essence. Michael obviously had this royal essence in his style, and it suited him very well (The nickname "King of Pop" was not only about his music, but also about his style). It became his trademark.
      - I also believe that Soft Dramatic (regardless of the gender) is often confused with yin dominant body types as the yin side of this type is very strong, and it is often visible as first. I mean, the sharp bone structure is hidden well behind the lush facial features and the curves (when we talk about women). But since the body type is mainly about the bone structure, I would not say, Michael Jackson has delicate, short bone structure associated with Romantics and Theatrical Romantics. If I add his strong yin undercurrent, I can' help but think of him as Soft Dramatic.

    • @titemartiniquaise
      @titemartiniquaise Před 3 lety +4

@@peacefreedomandwealth I honestly thought he was TR because of the few elements you talked about (long fingers, relatively elongated) but not SD. He had slopped shoulders (you can this this when he wears his casual red shirts or even some jackets without épaulettes. He wasn't built like a V, more like an H. His cheekbones were round not that sharp. His jawline was wide and rounded. Light fabric didn't look too separate from him, he wore light fabric most of the time.
And on pictures next to Prince, he doesn't look like extremely heavy by contrast, they both seem really light.
So I'd lean towards R or TR.
Now, it is true that a long vertical line in his outfit suited him like a glove, especially when he got older, stiff fabric looked good on him too so you could be right.
But I'd note that even with all that, he's still light and that stiffer and longer silhouettes were always very ornated, probably to balance.
Even his makeup wasn't usually big, never with straight line, or it didn't look right
Imo, he's TR or R, but who knows?

    • @peacefreedomandwealth
      @peacefreedomandwealth Před 3 lety +1

@@titemartiniquaise He had quite sharp and angular shape of shoulders if you look at his photos from swimming pool with his wet afro :). This, along with some width, makes them dramatic (I am pure Dramatic and see some resemblance between his and mine). Besides this, like I said, yin determined bone structure will never give you long and wide hands or feet (like in his case) or long vertical lines. He had a strong yin undercurrent, yes, and it was visible on his facial features. Overall, this makes him Soft Dramatic, not pure Dramatic. His bone structure itself was definitely not delicate or small. If you compare him with Freddy Mercury who was typed as Soft Dramatic on Reddit, they look comparable, Michael does not seem smaller, more delicate or anything else. Only his facial features look more delicate and childish as he had strong Ingénue as well.

I think it's because we look mostly at famous Hollywood women and I noticed that they are pretty the same even if they have different body types:
      - they all have big eyes (no exeptions, first I thought about Jennifer Lawrence, but her eyes are not small compared to other features),
      - small plumpy lips (exept Tilda Swinton),
      - oval face shape without extra fat on face (no exeptions, even plus size women have thin faces),
      - small straight nose (Lady Gaga's nose is not very small but still proportional),
      - they are thin (exept Melissa McCarthy),
      - all do same make up and most importantly do surgery.
All exeptions are just in one thing.
Men celebrities as you noticed don't do make up, don't try to "hide" or "balance" their body shapes with clothes, don't do that much surgery etc. They are more natural (in meaning they "wake up like this") and divirse.
I think it would be great if Aly will make body type video with more non conventional women

Honestly I think it is because the feature lists for female types are super meticulous and detailed. Every feature is carefully studied, maybe too carefully, since the type isn't always about "the rules" but the vibe they give.
Also agree with the point above, maybe men are more free in Hollywood when it comes to appearances. I think it's funny how for example Johnny Depp seems to know his type intuitively, since he wears those certain beards and accesories that totally compliment his type. Also the gamine men, they seemed really "effortless" in their being it was easy to type them.

I find the Kibbe body type series of yours so fascinating. And the mens Kibbe is very interesting too!
My favourite band, Oasis, has two brothers that seem to be very different Kibbe types.
The guitarist (Noel Gallagher) is a few inches shorter than his brother.
When he was younger, he had had a softer face, finer more delicate facial bone structure, except for a large and hooked nose and extremely thick eyebrows.
His eyes have a heavy lid, so seldom look large.
He's always been very slim and doesn't put on weight easily. For his size, he has wide shoulders but has tiny hips (28" waist) and small feet with larger hands. So his features/body structure seems all over the place with yin and yang qualities.
His personality is a quiet person who can be very mouthy and attention seeking. (which makes me think of as more yin and yang qualities too).
Now, in his 50s, he has a harsher look and an intensity about his facial expressions (which he always did) that seem very yang.
He used to wear parkas which seemed to swallow him up, now he wears more fitted clothes which suit his build, and show how slight he is. It's also interesting that even when both brothers wear a suit, Liam looks better with the suit jacket buttoned and Noel looks better with it open, a slightly different style and feel to it.
I know that Noel's a Gamin, but I am confused of whether he's Gamin or Flamboyant Gamin. He's not 'comfortable' in his skin (as you described FG) and isn't the type to be physically open and act silly or playful (unlike his brother).
I'd love for you to do another video on Men's Kibbe types and choose some modern men (please choose the Gallaghers! for this!) so we could all see other types of men and how to categorise them.
I find this interesting because his younger brother, while they bear a similarity, has a totally different body type and structure. (more on the brother on Mens' Kibbe types pt. 1)
It's interesting how similar siblings can look, but still be so different in Kibbe types.

I am surprised that I actually was right about Prince and Johnny Depp :O Once I got into the whole Kibbe Body Types system, I immediately tried to type EVERYBODY even though I don't have the expertise at all. I think it can be tricky to type men because we struggle with perceiving them as 'feminine'. That's why I try to look at the lines only without thinking 'feminine' or 'masculin' too much. I also feel like some people (doesn't matter if men or women) are insanely easy to type while others aren't. I think it can also be hard to type yourself because we see ourselves from a different angle. But one example that might come in handy: Have you ever had that moment when you tried a new look and looked in the mirror and liked it and later you saw pictures of yourself in that new look and it looked totally ridiculous? I surely had that. That's why I try to look at photos rather than using the mirror to get a feeling for what looks best on myself. And I don't mean selfies, I mean photos that are taken from further away, especially shots that are totally natural (because you didn't realise someone was taking that picture) with other people surrounding you (to compare lines more easily). What I really struggle with is seeing if someone has soft or taut flesh. I don't know why, it's just hard for me. Especially when someone is either overweight or working out alot.

From looking at a variety of pictures, including when she was younger and in more casual dress, I think Angela Merkel could be a Soft Natural. She’s 5’ 5” which is average and therefore not really a petite gamine. She has a more of yang definitely with a broad/blunt kind of overall bone structure, but softened somewhat. It explains why those boring button-up classic suits don’t flatter her much. I have the same issue as a Soft Natural. I found one photo of her in the woods with a long (midi length) flowing skirt, a soft textured sweater and lace up boots, and she looks sooo much better, happier and more in her skin.

I wonder what type Tom Hiddleston is. His body looks similar to Neil Patrick Harris, but his face is very oval-shaped and he's tall (6'2")

Aly, I would much appreciate if you make more videos about man's body types, how to dress accordily, haircuts, etc.
I have a feeling that my boyfriend might be a flamboyant gamin and even your personality's description matches perfectly.
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge

Such a great video. Alex Turner is such a great example of a modern male gamine, I think. He is so gorgeous and effortlessly cool: big eyes, straight nose, sharp jawline, cool smile and small sharp bone structure. You can clearly see his feminine and masculine parts.

I'd say Gamine of some kind. Consider his huge eyes, his height... Next to Harrison Ford, he always looked more cheerful and boyish, and less masculine, both then and now... Also see the way he talks in an interview. DON'T google 'Mark Hamill body' though. :D
