The only thing she stated that was correct are all the Ukrainian women in the armed forces getting slaughtered. It’s all over social media. It’s disgusting. Not surprising considering Ukraine is a terrorist state. & she won’t even mention the 4 million Ukrainian civilians that gladly migrated to Russia.

The West has lost much of its moral compass in recent decades, but what's missing in this decay is the role that the Bolsheviks played in this- in fact Putin's own KGB. The late Soviet defector Yuri Bezmenov (videos still on YT) revealed the long plan and the complete process used by the Soviets to subvert the west, and declared that in many ways it had succeeded beyond the wildest KGB dreams. So Putin and his cronies demoralized and destabilized western institutions, then point out the rot that they created. Nevertheless, the decay and deception of Communism and the oligarchy that is Russia is even worse.

I just understand that we all have,, or develop our own individual minds, regardless of our inheritance or environment at home.
We might inherit certain things genetically, but it is *always* up to us what we do with them. I know we can inherit altered brain cells in our DNA from our parents who will have suffered trauma(s), we can inherit the very genes that made our parents resilient or non-resilient. @@jamesgornall5731in a good deal of the studies you mentioned, Russia either has no data or only partial data when it comes to violence against women. So it’s impossible to compare the two countries in any truthful way based on the sources you mentioned. However, OSCE does confirm the decriminalization of domestic abuse in Russia in 2017, which Anna cited. Feel free to look at one up. If something is decriminalized, the result of that is that there are fewer arrests, less data collected, etc. So even if you do see results on violence against women in Russia since 2017, that the numbers are going to be artificially low. As for before that? More than likely the culture that resulted in such a law being passed resulted in low levels of prosecution or reporting even before that. So I stand by what Anna said, who IS a woman in Ukraine and who knows her experience very well, and can see the experiences of women around her. As for the phrase she reported (“If he beats you, that means he loves you”), this is a phrase that I heard previously from Russian vloggers reporting on the situation in their country. It is a cultural issue that Russia deals with, where domestic abuse has largely become normalized.
Regarding the “gender-equality index”, I’ll give you that Russia and Ukraine are within a couple of points of each other. But the UN statistic states that this index is a composite of “reproductive health, empowerment and the labor market”. So this does not take into account violence against women, which for the reasons I’ve explained is either unreported or underreported.

We're not some knock off side kick characters to embolden women in their quest to feel like they're as good as men at all the same tasks(they're not). We are still conquerors, protectors, providers. If they were aloud to have an educated opinion of their own I'm sure they would not want their husbands, father's,sons ect fed into a meat grinder just to feed Putin's ego. SLAVA UKRAINE !

    Love this series.
Actually, the demographic crisis is even worse. In addition to the over 300K men lost on the battlefield, 700K to 1M left the country. These were also men of military age, and the ones who would start families. This is one reason that it is unlikely that Russia would be better placed to fight a war five or twenty years in the future. They are rapidly running out of men to fight future wars. Just think, sons born now, and I mean right now, would only be ready to fight in 20 years. There is also the mismatch between males and females in the childbearing cohort. This was true even before the war, and it gets worse.

However, many did not left the country for the reason of migrating, but because of the economic sanctions and reconstruction outside of Russia with non-sanctioned ressources. In a afterwar situation, those will most likely return. However, demographics in Russia are bad, but not among the Muslims. That being said, a Russia which attacks Ukraine in that way is not in any form a protector of Christian or European conservatists.

Of course putin's vision for the future of russia requires a lot of bodies for the meat grinder. russian women are promised a reward for getting more than 10 children. And it would not surprise me if abortion will soon be criminalised in russia.

I am married to a Serbian woman, and during the wedding ceremony my late mother in law translated the words of the orthodox priest to me whispering: "he said you should always hear what your woman says and obey." At that time my Serbian still had been very poor and I had sometimes difficulties to understand it, as it is quite different from russian. My wife and I, hearing my mother in law, had to smile and, as the priest also had heard it, he smiled too. :D In my eyes the kind of russian "masculinity" is not an ideal to strive for. This is also the reason I gave my office I had held for more then 40 years to my daughter (the second youngest of six daughters) and I am proud to see it thriving well. She is better in business than I ever had been. Point. :D Slava Ukrajini!

Going back to viking age, the women were also the ones in charge at home here in Scandinavia.
The "traditional family values" that putler wish for, peaked in the early to mid 1900s.
It's not uncommon for a society with underpopulation to promote the traditional family, that includes hating on homosexuals... because they don't breed.
That's a piece of history that has been repeating itself for millennia.
I can understand the people that prefer the olden ways, but I don't understand when society wants to enforce it... should really be a personal choice, and domestic violence has no place in a modern society, that should be obvious.

@@jamesgornall5731 you have a point about the imbalance in numbers. But it could be phrased better.
I wasn't making a point regarding monogamy or polygamy as such.
When the imbalance gets too big, especially if a society favour one gender over another, it gets problematic too.
I don't like the fact that most countries enforce monogamy either... the reasoning is that it is to protect the women.
In a society that just wants offspring, allowing it openly makes sense.
But taking many western countries/cultures into consideration... people get divorced and remarry without too much trouble... many never even get married.
I think that the most important is that you shouldn't be able to hide it from eachother... so some kind of registered partnership makes sense.

In a way, the Mongol empire has become "my Roman Empire," the thing I think about every day.

Yes, Mongols ruled today's western part of Russia, except nothern part. So Moscow was free from Mongol Horde. At that time, Moscow was a small village that land owners successfully collected taxes and began rising as an empire. Gradually ousted Mongols. This is how Russians have developed an imperialistic and rough mentality. They think they have to rule everyone.

Yes! I love history, & I firmly believe you need to know it to understand the present, & looking into Ukrainian & Russian history HAS been really enlightening. The Mongol Empire was important, but ofc so was the Russian Empire with its autocratic tsars, the hideous Stalin, communism... And for Ukraine, the Kyivan Rus', the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth & the Cossack Hetmanates. I'd love to know more about the Mongol aspect though!

There is no relation between Muscovy and any mongolians savages. Firstly because the mongolian invasion of Europe is a complete myth that's not mentioned in a single authentic chronicle. Muscovy was the real bastion of Rus culture and civilization. At that time, Ukrainians were literally slaves of Poles and Kiev was nothing but a backwater town.

I remember the singing group from russia which name I can not place here because youtub will think it naughty. They were jailed for fighting for women's rights and the kgb/fsb still harasses them. Stand up Russian men and stop the ignorance against your mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, and cousins. We are a team respect that

Thank you so much for this episode, Anna and Sasha! It was very interesting. We have a some russian women here in the UK who married English men, but we have changed our laws with the changing of time. To the extent that we now recognise many different forms of domestic abuse/domestic violence. Even covering financial control, coercive control, and sexual abuse. We have come a long way since the era decades ago where men could not be charged with matrimonial rape, now they can. And gender is another thing we have taken into account because men too can be victims of domestic abuse/violence, and the law here recognises that too. That is what having a democratic nation means... and we continue to improve on that all the time.
It's uncanny you raised that subject of abuse, I had not watched this video up until now, and I'd left you a comment in your today's vlog comments in reply to you, about the nature of abuse; in a different yet sometimes similar context. One might understand why russian women might not mind if their husbands, or even sons and fathers, get sent to fight in the war, but what if they do manage to come back home to russia? Are the men likely to thank them for being so supportive in them going to potentially die in Ukraine? 🤔 Especially if they are not breaking any laws for beating or abusing their women there in russia! Maybe that is why we are starting to see a few women speaking out against the war? It must be a bit of a gamble to think they may or may not return home with their bodily arms, legs, eyes, etc., intact!
I have seen the videos promoting women to have more babies at a younger age... so therein lies a real dilemma. If they are not in work, their employment taxes don't get paid to government; and if they are in work, they are unable to increase the population of russia.
In what they call the "rotting west" we have overcome that in the main, but they hate our ways, so that's not possible for them to do as we do in our freedom-loving nations.
Looks like russia's war is leaving them between a hard place and a rock!

@@jamesgornall5731 war does terrible things to all involved. I’m not denying that partner abuse probably is going up somewhat in Ukraine, but your comment was awfully one sided. And you seem to take a pro-Russian slant on just about everything. Look, I’m not one to personally hate Russians (I’ve known plenty of decent Russians in my lifetime), but if you truly want what’s best for the Russian people, you would support them going back home and leaving Ukraine alone. This war is completely and totally unnecessary, and when it’s all over we’ll all see just how unnecessary it all was. And one side invaded the other, who is acting in self defense. Unless you’re the type of person that would allow somebody to enter your house, kill some of your family members and take control of your house and everything in it, I think you should be supporting Ukraine in their defense. And you should support Russia ending this war and getting out as soon as possible.
