Bakkies one of those guys who was really 180 degrees on and off the field. Helluva nice guy but by all accounts an animal when on the brandy and cokes.

Bakkies Botha was an average rugby player who mainly relied on unsportsman like tactics to gain advantage. Grub on and off the field it sounds like.

Hey how about the RP crew cut the BS. The Matfeild/Botha combo was not the most famous partnership in rugby history. Nor was it the most feared either. While Victor was greatly respected outside SA as a fabulous and clean player, Bakkies was not. Bakkies was a very dirty, mean player, full of cheap shots, who greatly benefitted from lax refereeing. Bakkies would last 10 minutes in a 2023 game before being Red carded.
Pro Rugby players don't fear meatheads like Bakkies. They fear combo's that score tries and win games. Combo's like Carter/Nonu, Gregan/Larkham, Smith/Nonu, Cullin/Lomu :)

Except you are wrong. Bakkies was a supreme athlete and rugby player and had all the ability to control himself.
Go watch some highlights and see who is making cover tackles or first to a breakdown. The violence would just be more focussed, as Eben has done.
