Ah thats one I was considering! Currently I have a little cheapo model to learn with, but it doesn't lift anything. Trying to weigh between getting a ready to fly model v.s building one...
yup many posts about this topic... what Fresno needs for a modern strong future economy besides HSR, we need High Speed Infrastructure... where is Fresno's FTTX (Fiber to the Desk, Fiber to the curb, Fiber to the node, fiber to the home, Fiber to the Businesses) has anyone ever tried to full up all those tall empty office buildings around the Fulton? maybe some fiber optics besides good wifi would help our economy. a company left Clovis because they did not have fiber in the area.
Successful Ped Malls: Ithaca Commons, Iowa City's Ped Mall, Madison's State St., Burlington's Church St. Marketplace, Boulder's Pearl St., Charlottesville’s Main St., Miami Beach’s Lincoln Rd., Boston’s Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Santa Monica’s Third St. Promenade, San Diego’s Horton Plaza, the Fremont St. Experience in Las Vegas, the River Walk in San Antonio, Oklahoma City’s E. California Ave. alongside the Bricktown Canal, & hybrid transit malls like in Denver, Memphis, and soon San Francisco.
We need more housing in downtown. But build Single Family homes in the downtown grid and not focus too much on 3 story apartments on every corner. I hope downtown can be a mix of single family and density.
if people would look back to see what the orginal plan for the mall was and how the roads around it should work then you will see and understand what we have was well planned, but since then it's been fuck-up the roads around the mall are gone thanks to the IRS building and the ball park. if they really wanted to fix the area then fix that light and stop sign intersection at Hst. near the Fresno Hotel that was also part of the orginal mall traffic flow Plan.
Downtown can become great if there was to be more night attraction or night live...it can become a nice place a couple or groups of friend can enjoy walking down the main street..I believe
Fresno received a federal grant and the restoration of Fulton Street is underway. Completion in June 2016. Millions of $$$ in investments by private business have been made as well.
Downtown Fresno will not work!! What businesses will be clamoring to be located there!! . No Macys, Cartier, Saks Fifth Ave, Neiman Marcus, Dior, Chanel!!
the bastards got their way and destroyed it, not their is little unique about it, other than the original building but now i expect many of those to be demolished to in the near future.
California ...from Bakersfield to Sacramento...it's all the same ..I lived there before and its really not that bad as when I was growing up. Its just like Stockton ...
The fulton mall was fun back in the day. I think since other malls and places opened across town definitely has affect on the traffic. It's never to late for the fulton mall to regain if the city up date the buildings. #FamousLee559
Guys please stop the negative comments I live in clovis and it is a great city so is Fresno but my parents are immigrants from (south)Korea and they don't have much they can do except own a clothing shop for plus size and gangster-like ppl and so I just hope you guys can have an encouraging attitude for the ppl in desperate times and if you don't believe me the store in the back left corner at 1:58 so ya thx for reading if you got this far
You need to make downtown a huge outlet stores in and have more concerts at the baseball stadium and put a circle track and top fuel car racing in like a drag strip back in Fresno then watch it grow super big it will happen if you make it happen
Fresno has the potential to be a good city, if downtown would really revitalize it right. I also feel, and from experience, the people in the Central Valley just don’t have much interest in culture and art. And you need those types of people to make a good neighborhood vibes to make downtown flourish. That’s why San Francisco is one of the best cities. Every neighborhood is like going to a different city.
I argued back during this time that turning Fulton back into a street would not "revitalize" downtown and would needlessly displace small businesses. Now that it's been a few years, several of my favorite businesses were driven out by artificially inflated rent based on the speculation that the value of the area would increase (Saigon Deli's rent went up 2× overnight), foot traffic is roughly the same and there are even more empty storefronts than before (pre-covid observations). Very little has changed down here because the city is a sprawling mess and developers would rather keep buying land in the country and developing more suburbs and strip malls. "Believing" in downtown and expensive infrastructure projects that drove small businesses away didn't revitalize downtown. Shocker, right?
Fulton was not rundown in the 1960s it was old but not rundown and it was not empty. Postwardreamz why don't you go learn some history before you speak. there is a building on the fulton that is like san francisco but i bet you don't even know what building it is, because you don't know your history.
I believe!! And im from Fresno ... I'll like to be part of fixing Fresno but don't know how . I would love to make a change seriously ... Even if I have to go downtown and find the main guy I will .. Cuz I wanna take action and fix downtown I dont wanna just talk about how downtown is dieing and not do nothing about it .. Its time to make it actually happen . So ill be going downtown no time soon and talk to the main person ... No lie ... Time for a change !
Also add Community Hospital and the break in Divisidero to the traffic disaster in the area. There was an excellent plan to remedy this along the lines of Malibu's promenade success by reopening a lane of traffic and saving the art and sculpture that is so precious to some.
if you want to see the Fulton Mall in it's pedestrian glory then get your butt out to the 25th anniversary of the Festival del Cinco De Mayo on the Fulton Mall on May 4 & 5th. it will be packed this is one of the biggest and regular events on the Fulton. since 1988 - 2 years after the failed Gottschalks left for north fresno, i bet Gottschalks would be here today if they would have stayed in Downtown and on the mall as their HQ.
You need to rethink all your store go to the fashion fair Mall look at their stores those are stores people want to go shopping at. you need more foot patrol if you put in more stores people like to feel secure when they’re walking to their car. Fresno does have a homeless problem also it’s very dirty
Fresno has potential now that Fulton street is back again...downtown Fresno needs major changes I see cleaning up certain sections like Chinatown and G st..Fresno is in heart of the San Joaquin valley you got the Sierras to the east and coast range to the West..downtown Fresno needs something like a space needle tower like what Seattle has with a observation rotating deck to see great views of the mountains, city and valley open the underground tunnels for tourism. build new high rise office towers 20 to 40 story buildings with residential too..put more police and security on the streets 24/7 and believe Fresno is ready for a light rail system connecting Fresno state, Riverpark and with the cities of Clovis, Sanger, Selma, Kerman and Madera its time now Fresno....DO IT!!!!
The only reason the city is backing the removal of the pedestrian mall is that they will be able to charge for more parking. They talk about lofts in this video, where will all of those people park? The mentality of the "leaders" of our city makes my head spin. I like the idea of a revitalized downtown, I just don't think the leaders of our city have a clue how to make it happen.
I happen to live and work in Downtown Fresno and our apartments have garages and those that don't have plenty of parking for tenants inside of the complexes, that are gated.
It needs a movie theatre, large big box retailer..... A big attraction that will draw traffic to downtown and encourage other retailers to open shop downtown. Fresno needs to give MAJOR tax breaks or incentives to large businesses who want to open shop. This will get the ball rolling.....
As a former resident of Fresno, who was born and raised there, growing up on weekends in the Sierras and summers in Pismo Beach -- I can only say "Great Job"! Fresno has more untapped opportunity than any other city in California. Fresno has location, location, location; a diverse population with hard-working people and a history of entrepreneurship than spans a very-wide demographic. It's time for Fresno to be a great city, now it's just up to it's citizens to commit. Just Do It!
Agree with this video 100%! Pedestrian malls only succeed in dense downtown areas with a residential population or in the presence of college populations or heavy tourism...if you have none of this, then pedestrian malls are the fastest way to kill your downtown
I from Washington State. Fresno reminds me of Yakima will there both are little cities and surrounded farmlands but different fruits. Yakima is like Fresno version of Washington.
They need more water, and Small, individual farms...unless the population can still live with the draught, and the excessive vehicle pollutioon by the usual car companies models....
want fresno to have more people with money... remove property tax and let landlords put out cheap rent on their own free will. if all you money just go into food and rent and power and no money left over for other things then you going to have a town that only do just those things
that arch was an entrance 100 years ago and thats not even the orginal one that is there now, in the 1950s Broadway was the Main Street because it was old 99.
I agree with what this video is generally saying, that Fresno needs to revitalize downtown Fresno. But I totally disagree with the approach of doing that by paving over Fulton Mall and giving it back to cars. In cities across the country, MORE people are biking, taking Lyft/Uber or public transit. In 10-15 years, that will be infinitely more true, and Fresno will have a high-speed rail station walking distance to Fulton Mall. We should try to change Fulton Mall and downtown Fresno by (A) providing tax credits to businesses that open on the mall (B) adding incentives for developers to open residential units in downtown Fresno, one of the few places in Fresno where you can walk to easily to a lot of business (C) redesigning Fulton Mall to be more friendly to pedestrians and bikes. On the last point, the mall is full of strange inlets and park benches that create dark areas where people can hide or sleep. It makes the whole mall into a decently scary place at night. Cars are not the solution here (parking is very easy, there's a huge parking garage nearby and lots of street parking!). We need to encourage more places like Peeve's to open and bring foot traffic. I want to see downtown Fresno succeed, but why make look like every other block in Fresno? It's a special place, and one of the few places where you have businesses and no cars. Let's bring more residents to downtown Fresno, rip out the strange inlets on the mall, get more stores on the mall occupied, and revitalize downtown!
right on the money , in this modern age , and the current price of owning and maintaining cars, with Uber lyft you can just get dropped off and walk, when the fountians once worked it kept the area extra cool, and now with the threat of terrorist and disgruntled crazy people using trucks and cars to run people over, i fear the day the close the 'new road' for an event, and some drunk person drives off in to the crowds of people. I believe in downtown, but i do not believe in these idiots foolish ideas, that have ruined an area, they could have just repaired the damaged fountains the bench areas and resorted it to the original 1964 plan. this just shows how fresno once was visionary no we have idiots, with no real imagination of thee future.
Tower District is hopping all the time because of variety of food joints. That is what downtown needs: 1) that vacant north of The Californian is a good spot. 2) that vacant lot in front of the jail should have a hot dog stand just like __Taylor's Chili Dogs_ in downtown Visalia. 3) that place with the roof restaurant, _Quail State_ looks nice. Think I will go there after I rob someone so I can afford their menu prices. 🤬💨 Anyways I just like strolling downtown on a Saturday or Sunday night when people are not there. I love Fresno's skyline and architecture. 🤗💕
Yhea I was wondering what the setup was and if it belonged to CMAC. I guess there are a few people around town that do AV, it's pretty sweet though I'm looking to get into soon, currently in the research stage =)
That is so funny when the commentator said your city had the courage to make the change once before; for it was the that stupid decision in the 1960s to close off the mall from cars that caused this problem in 2014 to begin with.
Interesting to contrast the rhetoric of this 2013 campaign, "Do You Believe in Downtown Fresno?" with that of Victor Gruen's 1968 “Fresno: A City Reborn." Fresno: A City Reborn - rare 1968 documentary by Victor Gruen Associates
There was a plan in the 90s to allow flow back through Fulton St. like Santa Monica with infill like Pasadena that was rejected by city council at the time by not doing the environmental impact study. Think of the city involvement as seed money. It is still a good idea and once Fresno commits to the concept it will open the way for private developers to do the rest.
If you wouldlike to see how the Fulton Mall was planned see on here "Fresno: A City Reborn - rare 1968 documentary by Victor Gruen Associates" Also the 40th anniversary special section and web page the Fresno Bee did on the Fulton Mall that is if you can find that.
these Noobs have no clue of what Fresno's true Main Street was, Fresno's Original Main Street was 'Broadway' not Fulton. Broadway was part of old 99 were Golden State Boulevard would go through downtown Fresno. see the utube clip "ROAD TRIP TO SAN JOSE FROM FRESNO (CIRCA 1958) part 1" for proof.
wow, what a Derp of Propaganda that even conflicts with it's self. 3:30 the opening states that there are few malls like the Fulton left, the ones that do the best have major anchors near them. so their idea is to destroy a unique one of a very few left to put in a street, look at the other areas of Fulton were you can drive cars it's not better. the Fulton does even better in the tower says the 2011 retail sales market share report in fact the Fulton mall does better than old town Clovis.
Your downtown is not a DOWNTOWN it's a MALL !!!! That is the whole problem, you are structuring the core of a city, based in the logic of a shopping centre ! You need other activities, civic centres, REAL public space. Fesno is doom to failure if you keep thinking that everything in about shopping !
Do you live in Fresno and have you actually been downtown? Because there is ALOT more than just shopping going on. Yes, the Fulton mall is in fact a mall, but there is more shit going on then just stores. Lmfao, oh my.
if you know Fresno's history then you would know that downtown from the 1920-1950 was about Government and Finance those were the main buildings built down there, with homes around that and the shopping filling in between, and the city grew homes grow far away and so did the shopping in the 1950s. so other that if you worked in government of finance banking there was no need to go downtown other than the work week. then the vision of the fulton mall came in the early 1960s... see the film Fresno a City Reborn, but by the 1980s the finance that was in downtown had moved far away and by the end of the 80s downtown banking and finance companys has moved out, to the woodward park area.
up to 7mins it looks like stock footage then it's local footage, and the fulton did not look bad, but at that time people were shopping at Mayfair shopping center and Fig Garden village since those places were brand new in the 1950s. the building that is on the fulton that is just like a building in san francisco well it is the oldest and the same architect did both for the same company the one that survived 1906 quake and is huge today... the building in SF is a National Historic Landmark.
The Fulton Mall was supported by all the big box stores at the time and it seemed great and a source of pride for a year or two. Then the businesses found that the traffic congestion experienced before was all the customers coming downtown and the mall eliminated them. When Gottschalks, a great supporter before, pulled the plug and went North it was all over for business downtown. And all the fountains and sculpture look like a time capsule for 1964, pop art that taken one at a time are fine.
Downtown Fresno will always remain the same lol no one can save it. It seem that city councils don't care about Fresno,CA lol no wonder the crime there is high if ur reading this never go to this lame downtown is horrible best part is river park and fashion fair ;)
Stores and Attractions like Big Stores, A Movie Theater, Bars, Events, Food, Parks, Recreation Centers, Farmers Market Stuff, Amusement/Theme Parks and maybe a Sport Team.
WHERE DO WE GET THE MONEY? I live in Clovis and work a little downtown. Id love to see it look better, but Im not seeing where we can get the money or a payoff. Granite park..Grizzly stadium..Fulton mall revitalization..all of the same ilk to me. Why not sell off your assets pay your debts and start letting developers that have money use it and do this themselves. DO I BELIEVE yes I believe the government will take my money and spend it with a hope that they will have something to show for it
Fresno F’d by developing so much low income housing projects around the perimeter of downtown. The freeways that were suppose to fix traffic issues downtown are not designed well and gave way to so much homelessness in many ways. DT Fresno is screwed to say the least. Any private investment will not be an investment.
They need to put Harris ranch in the middle of downtown Fresno where we going to have the biggest bar there like it used to be they took all the good restaurants out they need to reopen Harris ranch grill and have the best drinks around town and call the coldest beer in Fresno
I beleave in downtown but it's just you needa kick all the bums out and I would love to go their and I want a better down town most of Thea's people are negative 😠 about it being better but I would want to go their more often but if they can fix it so please fix it if you can !!!!!!!!
I believe that when the bullet train gets completed (if), then the opportunity for success will come... Those from the bay area will drive businesses to open up shop.. but as of right now, dog house grill has everyone in their hands...
Like... San Jose...??? You WANT a downtown like San Jose? Isn't San Jose a great example of a huge city with a terrible downtown. Compare DTSJ to Oakland and SF, it is laughable!
Solution? Go to Wikipedia & see the entry for 'Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica', which was also a 1960s pedestrian mall that began failing in the 70s. They added an enclosed shopping mall and parking structure at one end and DID not open up the pedestrian mall to vehicular traffic. They retained the unique promenade/pedestrian only design and the new Third Street Promenade has been a goldmine and major tourist attraction ever since. Fulton Street can do the same thing.
Fresno needs to build up not out,you put a new tallest building downtown everyone going to want a office or business in a new building & restore the older buildings get them up to code, the city should offer a discount on lease to attract business,I would turn one of the older buildings into a college,& most importantly Fresno needs a center that stays open late our own city puts us on curfew everything in Fresno literally closes early. and all these excuses about downtown gangs and homeless is a pathetic excuse every city has gangs and homeless the city belongs to us the citizens not them so why give in to them I honestly believe in downtown Fresno it just may seem hopeless to some people because it's been forgotten for so long I say let's put a tall building there that new tallest building and that could be the symbol of Fresno new revitalization truly for example we believed in our Zoo we voted to Place measure Z an hour who is even better don't know what the profits are but visually nicer we're a mid-size city with a pretty good-sized population I believe we can pull it off
I bless in Fresno CA
I believe
Fresno is the heart of California.....
@Rosalia Torres Bro go to literally any major city in CA and it's worse than here
Fresno is the heart of Californias arm pit.
Ah thats one I was considering! Currently I have a little cheapo model to learn with, but it doesn't lift anything. Trying to weigh between getting a ready to fly model v.s building one...

It looks out of place now, but the welcome arch on Van Ness used to be the entrance to the city from 99 as you were driving North.
Family fashion? Lol noice
sadly haven't gone since the remodel
Thank you Ashley. 👋😃
Since you mentioned _Plus size_ that's where I will shop next time I go to downtown.
I call the county jail Disneyland with a big revolving door at the font
and the street did nothing , LOL
if it still was a pedestrian mall , it would have been a perfect place during the covid year of 2020
You need to make downtown a huge outlet stores in and have more concerts at the baseball stadium and put a circle track and top fuel car racing in like a drag strip back in Fresno then watch it grow super big it will happen if you make it happen
7 years later and downtown is even dirtier and worse off than it was then.

Would have been great to hear from non developers. But nobody else has had any say in the city for decades...
This city is run by and for developers and wealthy farmers. it's a shame.
Also add Community Hospital and the break in Divisidero to the traffic disaster in the area. There was an excellent plan to remedy this along the lines of Malibu's promenade success by reopening a lane of traffic and saving the art and sculpture that is so precious to some.

Sounds the same as in Stockton. Our Main street pedestrian mall is just sad!
reopen the underground tunnels too.
I was just there yesterday, made me feel bad seeing all those beautiful buildings abondoned.
There's a Few Abandoned Buildings like Bank of Italy and JCPenney.

1) that vacant north of The Californian is a good spot.
2) that vacant lot in front of the jail should have a hot dog stand just like __Taylor's Chili Dogs_ in downtown Visalia.
3) that place with the roof restaurant, _Quail State_ looks nice. Think I will go there after I rob someone so I can afford their menu prices. 🤬💨
Anyways I just like strolling downtown on a Saturday or Sunday night when people are not there. I love Fresno's skyline and architecture. 🤗💕
8 years later and Downtown fresno is still the way i know it Oh yeah, And fulton mall got shutdown.
i live in fresno
me too
Who lives in fresno
Over 300,000 people
Couldnt pay me enough to live in Fresno
Yhea I was wondering what the setup was and if it belonged to CMAC. I guess there are a few people around town that do AV, it's pretty sweet though I'm looking to get into soon, currently in the research stage =)
Fresno Downtown The Burka town Ashlan and 99 over 12k of them welcome to Syria fresno 9k more slated for fresno 6k Turlock
That is so funny when the commentator said your city had the courage to make the change once before; for it was the that stupid decision in the 1960s to close off the mall from cars that caused this problem in 2014 to begin with.
Interesting to contrast the rhetoric of this 2013 campaign, "Do You Believe in Downtown Fresno?" with that of Victor Gruen's 1968 “Fresno: A City Reborn." Fresno: A City Reborn - rare 1968 documentary by Victor Gruen Associates
does any one here even know who the Fulton got its name? any what was the event that made people want to change the name from "J Street"
No not when all they have is thrift stores and no big names stores .
Used to have a Gottschalk and JC Penny
how'd they get the shots with no bumps around
I could get SHOT downtown!!!!
There was a plan in the 90s to allow flow back through Fulton St. like Santa Monica with infill like Pasadena that was rejected by city council at the time by not doing the environmental impact study. Think of the city involvement as seed money. It is still a good idea and once Fresno commits to the concept it will open the way for private developers to do the rest.
downtown fresno is home to homless
If you wouldlike to see how the Fulton Mall was planned see on here
"Fresno: A City Reborn - rare 1968 documentary by Victor Gruen Associates"
Also the 40th anniversary special section and web page the Fresno Bee did on the Fulton Mall that is if you can find that.
these Noobs have no clue of what Fresno's true Main Street was, Fresno's Original Main Street was 'Broadway' not Fulton. Broadway was part of old 99 were Golden State Boulevard would go through downtown Fresno.
see the utube clip "ROAD TRIP TO SAN JOSE FROM FRESNO (CIRCA 1958) part 1" for proof.
Don't worry Fresno I'll save you
Cpt Collecto waiting still
We're still waiting.
nice aerial shots in here
wow, what a Derp of Propaganda that even conflicts with it's self. 3:30
the opening states that there are few malls like the Fulton left, the ones that do the best have major anchors near them. so their idea is to destroy a unique one of a very few left to put in a street, look at the other areas of Fulton were you can drive cars it's not better. the Fulton does even better in the tower says the 2011 retail sales market share report in fact the Fulton mall does better than old town Clovis.
You're right amanda m, there's more going on such as crime.
if you know Fresno's history then you would know that downtown from the 1920-1950 was about Government and Finance those were the main buildings built down there, with homes around that and the shopping filling in between, and the city grew homes grow far away and so did the shopping in the 1950s. so other that if you worked in government of finance banking there was no need to go downtown other than the work week. then the vision of the fulton mall came in the early 1960s... see the film Fresno a City Reborn, but by the 1980s the finance that was in downtown had moved far away and by the end of the 80s downtown banking and finance companys has moved out, to the woodward park area.
up to 7mins it looks like stock footage then it's local footage, and the fulton did not look bad, but at that time people were shopping at Mayfair shopping center and Fig Garden village since those places were brand new in the 1950s.
the building that is on the fulton that is just like a building in san francisco well it is the oldest and the same architect did both for the same company the one that survived 1906 quake and is huge today... the building in SF is a National Historic Landmark.
Downtown is dead. It reminds me of I am legend. It had its run but it’s no more... sadly
I BELIEVE!
I don't believe
I Believe!!
you can get a Phantom Quadcopter with go pro mount for $1k at B&H.
they need to rebuild it
Downtown Fresno will always remain the same lol no one can save it. It seem that city councils don't care about Fresno,CA lol no wonder the crime there is high if ur reading this never go to this lame downtown is horrible best part is river park and fashion fair ;)

Fresno has changed...
you know what I would love to see? A multi story building apartment. The ones from the big cities. I would love to see that in downtown.
Get rid of all the malls, then every body will go down town, be cause they would have no chose.
They need anything bar have hairr
They need to put Harris ranch in the middle of downtown Fresno where we going to have the biggest bar there like it used to be they took all the good restaurants out they need to reopen Harris ranch grill and have the best drinks around town and call the coldest beer in Fresno
I was born and raised and I still live here downtown is shit no I don't believe in it
Sister Daniel ca you tell me is it a bad place to live I’m thinking about moving there in two weeks
Lol
I do not believe
Everybody knows downtown Fresno is the worst part of the city lol we need a better downtown just like downtown San Jose that would be great.
Like... San Jose...??? You WANT a downtown like San Jose? Isn't San Jose a great example of a huge city with a terrible downtown. Compare DTSJ to Oakland and SF, it is laughable!
10 years later, still run by homeless and drugs. If you’re drive through Fresno just keep driving. 😂
They did nothing to the downtown here in fresno the police harrass folks no one wants to go down there
I do but we need more big business tall new sky scrapers take down Chinatown and the old buildings
hell no!! im out of this place as soon as i get a chance!!!
I believe downtown Fresno so built ...
Fulton Street can do the same thing.
there's no hope
The final petty lawsuit hurdle has been overcome. Let the restoration of Fulton Street begin!
malls Recording labels businesses more buildings alil theme park Bars , Clubs more things to do in fresno
Fresno needs to build up not out,you put a new tallest building downtown everyone going to want a office or business in a new building & restore the older buildings get them up to code, the city should offer a discount on lease to attract business,I would turn one of the older buildings into a college,& most importantly Fresno needs a center that stays open late our own city puts us on curfew everything in Fresno literally closes early. and all these excuses about downtown gangs and homeless is a pathetic excuse every city has gangs and homeless the city belongs to us the citizens not them so why give in to them I honestly believe in downtown Fresno it just may seem hopeless to some people because it's been forgotten for so long I say let's put a tall building there that new tallest building and that could be the symbol of Fresno new revitalization truly for example we believed in our Zoo we voted to Place measure Z an hour who is even better don't know what the profits are but visually nicer we're a mid-size city with a pretty good-sized population I believe we can pull it off
Yo no lo creo. Ya lo vivi!!!!
Do you believe in Downtown Fresno. MY RESPONSE: Hell no.
No.
