    I just found this video because I picked up a Benchmade Puukko 200 prototype dated 2018 and I got very excited. Then worried that there may be a difference between prototype and production. This was very helpful.

    I once bought a Böker knife on Friday the 13th, and when it arrived it was serial number 13. That’s kind of cool

    Thanks for the information. I have a prototype bushcrafter still in the original box, which is also labeled with prototype. I have always wondered how many could have been made and thought it could have been a 1 of 1.

    Cool thanks for the info. Pretty much what I thought. I just picked up a Bugout Prototype Storm Grey 2022.

    I had a tanto AFCK prototype that was marked 1/135 and I think there was a 710 variant with uncoated M2 that never made it to production, it's prototype was marked 1of 4 or something like that. That's the only 2 Benchmade prototypes that I can remember seeing that had any indication of how many were made. I've had several, and most of them were identical to the production models, but there were a couple I had that were different, the original 710 prototype had aluminum scales and I also had a Dark Star that had some very minor differences from the production model.

    I have a Benchmade Pardue Auto Axis Prototype Dec 2002 I cannot get a value on it - posted it on my channel if you are curious to see it. Thanks for the info! Thanks man. Finally got a good answer to what I thought to be true. First is the prototype. Then first production run. or pre production run. Is there anywhere you can see, for instance, how many prototypes were made of a particular model?

    I bought a Shot Show 2000 Prototype Benchmade Model 705 from a local gun dealer back in the early 2000's. It was the mini version of the model 710 McHenry and William's design. It was actually the very first Axis Lock that Benchmade produced. I ended up trading it for an Almar Sere folder.

    On EBay I saw those numbers and what it said 1 out of 500 then the serial number.
    I thought that's what it meant.

    Dumb question but could you possibly make a tutorial on how to take the latch off a butterfly knife with pins instead of screws?, Im gonna be getting one and I want the latch off but im afraid of damaging it

      The 12800 NRA Gaucho and 757 Vicar were probably my favorite 2 Benchmade tantos that I've owned. Here's a few others I had that I wasn't as fond of, but pretty sure they're all discontinued...553 Griptillian, 557 Mini Griptillian, 760 LFTI, 800BT2 AFCK Prototype, 904 Mini Axis Stryler, 905 Mini Stryker, 912 Nitrous Stryker, 5300 Auto Presidio.

    Benchmade does some weird stuff with the knives they make prior to full production. Sometimes they don't put any special markings on them. For example my Benchmade NTK 3800 never went into production but its not marked with pre-prod or prototype.

    • @cutlerylover
      @cutlerylover  Před 3 lety

      I had one too,. they were in production in 2011 but it got discontinued quickly apparently it was a disagreement with the designer as ive heard..., thats a nice Harsey design...That knife is very popular design but many dont remember the BM version :)

    Cool knife. Gin-1 is a throwback. I grabbed an ascent in 154cm. Always looking for one in ats-34 because I collect steels.

    • @CNYKnifeNerd
      @CNYKnifeNerd Před 3 lety +1

      I collect steels more than I collect knives, so there's at least 2 of us out there!
      Gin1/BD1 is awful though. I remember going from gin 1 to S30V a couple decades ago and it was like stepping out of an 85 cutlass and into a Koenigsegg.
      Im as big of a steel snob as they come, but there still hasn't been a steel that's impressed me like S30V did when I first got my hands on it. It's still an awesome steel, I don't care how much the IG/YT crowd hates on it.

    • @lindboknifeandtool
      @lindboknifeandtool Před 3 lety

      @@CNYKnifeNerd s30v is an excellent steel. It goes to show how much actual use people get out of their knives. Bd1 was good for me as a kitchen knife type steel because it gets really sharp really easily. Edge retention is complete ass though😂
      On the topic of steel collecting, I’m on the lookout for F3, super gold 2, 1.2562, and maxamet bar stock. If you have the hookup let me know👍🏻

    Oh shit I just remembered my favorite benchmade was the Nitrous Stryker!! 🤣 🤣 🤣 It was a black class frame assisted D2 and the damn blade broke off at the ricasso and at the time I was so sick of that thing rusting every time I carried it that I just didn't feel like getting the blade replaced, like an idiot...
    It was definitely up there with the Rukus. They really make nothing I'm interested in anymore unless it's the CBK but I own a few of that and don't need more haha.

  • @r1w3d
    @r1w3d Před 3 lety +1

    Damn when I got into knives and came across benchmade I bought several "red class" knives then blue and black. Never cared for the gold class mostly only because they never made one I liked.
    Most people seem to know nothing about benchmade red class knives 🤣 pretty sure they all were made out of the US but they had some sweet ones in that class.

    • @cutlerylover
      @cutlerylover  Před 3 lety +1

      yes thats right the red class was a way for Benchmade to offer cheaper models made overseas...

    You would think that with time and effort Benchmade (and other companies) put into Prototypes and Pre-Productions they wouldn't come out with so so knives. I remember the video you put out titled WORST Benchmade Knife I Have Ever Used (BM320 Precinct). I realize some people might still might like it but I guess some knives will just slip through the cracks.
