- Something different in this one. A Cardo PackTalk Bold not holding a charge. So a battery replacement is needed and to reseal the unit up again.

Wow, thank you thank you for the kind words! Appreciated.

Great video mate and fix also 👏🏻👏🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Thanks 👍
Awesome. Nice job 👍🏼😊
Neat! Thank you!
Lovely video. Thank you. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I have decided to not do this my self, don't have proper tools, and my eyes has had better days... 😂
Guess I can't find you in Sweden.
Love your background music while working, sounds like Tool....? 👍🏻
Nice work!
Thanks!
You are a genius!!!
Thanks man!
I use a PT Bold, my previous communicator was a Cardo Scala G4, also a good comms unit. I replaced the battery on the G4 previously and intend to do the same on the Bold when that time comes. I noticed from your excellent vid that there appears to be a large crack in the PC board on unit you're working on. Odd that that happens since the outside doesn't look like it hasn't been abused. I am based in Johannesburg, South Africa and getting a replacement battery was problematic on my G4 until I eventually found a german Co. willing to courier one to me. I suppose you're not really willing to divulge sources for the Bold battery (advertising issues etc etc) but some indication would help many folks looking for a replacement. Thanks for your fantastic vid.
Regarding the USB port, I can only think that issues occur due to poor quality of soldering of the contacts. I do many repairs to devices that malfunction (mostly remotes for tvs, fans etc) and resoldering contacts poorly soldered in the first place almost always fixes the problems. Also, using the solder pump I remove excess/old solder and I resolder using lead-containing solder. The variety of idiots out there punting lead-free (lead is supposedly a nasty dirty people killer!) solder have resulted in decades of electronics being dumped due to lead-free solder crystallizing after a few short years and forming dry joints! Chinese manufacturing?!?!
Thanks for the kind words. I agree with the leaded solder thing 100% We see it a lot with all devises.. just a whiff of solder on connector and ports that with the slightest bit of use break free. It's madness!
Regarding the battery supply you can just google the model number of the device and find the correct compatible battery no problems.
The issue with the PackTalk Bold having a crack on the PCB I have no idea. They are well protected. unless it's had a significant impact at some point or bad repair attempt I have no idea. The one I was working on didn't have any crack.
I am surprised that Cardo didn’t design the device to not need silicon sealant. A properly designed and formed seal should require no sealant. Then again, a properly designed unit would have easily replaceable batteries with no soldering or breaking open of the case required. Everything is designed to be throwaway junk today.
I agree. There is actually a rubber gasket on the bottom half. However it doesn't seal correctly which is why they add the sealant and why I add sealnt. Doing 100mph on the motorway water will get in!
Technically.... It's not the Bold, it's the Packtalk. There are quite a few models, including the Bold & the Slim. I've got the Packtalk (no Bold or Slim), a great unit for comms for motorcyclists. Nice work, if my battery goes out, I'll send it across the Pond for your ministrations. :thumbup
Thanks for the correction, appreciated 👍
Did you see what communication chip are they using between 2 device?
Thanks 🙏
Hello, my friend had a problem with a broken antenna causing a bad connection, and I suspect it's having the same issue for mine unused Cardopack bolt. Is there a way to check if it's functioning properly? Because in my case, the radio connection only works in the city center, and sometimes I can't establish communication even within 200 meters under good conditions. Internet connection and GSM are definitely good. Its updated
Hey i am based in India and my packtalk battery showing 100 as on charger and switch off as it's unplugged.. where can I get battery from.
Thanks mate
Happy to help
I would love to see you change the micro usb connection to usbc
Would be a nice upgrade for sure! However there really isn't much room in there and making sure it's securely soldered down would be an epic challenge. Cardo REALLY do scrimp on the copper anchor points in these devices!
Great, thank you. With what you unscrewed the screws, what kind of bit is it?
Torx T6 security bit.
You make it look easy....but I tried this repair and somehow unsoldered the terminals for the pos and neg connection on the board. Now there doesn't appear to be anything to solder to. Any suggestions?
Thank you, From what you are describing you may have pulled the pads from the PCB. If you can send a picture of the battery terminals to enquiries@ubermicro.co.uk I may be able to help.
Thanks, I sent you an email with photos as you requested.
Hello sir, what glue did you use when closing the unit?
It's a automotive sealant I use.
What tool did you use to remove the screws
I have modified and Sega game bit.
Were you using alcohol to clean the flux up @7:39?
Yep 100% IPA.
I wonder how much did the replacement battery cost versus the cost of a new unit?
It's alot cheaper than a new unit. Please see our website for pricing and contact details. www.ubermicro.co.uk/product/cardo-packtalk-bold-mail-in-repair/
How good is the life with the new battery? These days my battery manages 5 or 6 hours.
The batteries we use meet or exceed the original spec. Eveyone we have spoken to say it lasts longer than when it was new.
Do you sell the micro USB port?
We can do, contact us here, we do have world wide shipping : www.ubermicro.co.uk/product/cardo-packtalk-bold-mail-in-repair/
I think the silicone sealant is best applied with a syringe. Its more accurate and gives you more control on the amount without much of a mess.
Where to buy new battery ?
Google?

What you put on 5:47
Flux. Helps the solder flow, removes contaminats and prevents oxidisation.
@@UberMicroRepairs thank you
