Can't wait to see how Don Juan does in your garden! My dad's name was Juan and he passed away almost three years ago. A few months after he passed, I learned of the existance of this rose. Can't wait to bring one home and plant it in honor of my dad. He wasn't a gardener at all but it would be for me to always remember him. I'm between Austin and San Antonio, so our weather it not too different.

If you could make it NE to Tyler sometime, you should visit the Municipal Rose Garden. They have all sorts of roses growing. There's also an idea garden you and Angie would enjoy. We're hot and humid, too. This summer was awful, but my roses are now blooming away again.
    That Don Juan is beautiful.

Does it grow fast? I just bought a couple of don Juan roses and I'm trying to think of a good place to plant it based off how it grows

Leonardo de Vinci said - Detail makes Perfection. And you 'get that' in spades. Watch the UK show 'Love Your Garden' when Alan Titchmarsh, who was apprenticed to Kew Gardens, each episode takes a blank canvas, sits and imagines, drawing a plan and, sometimes copying what others do brilliantly. No doubt you're receiving many, many suggestions and here are a few more:
The first impression of your home - it looks hot. Could you remove the bright white stones and pavers and replace them with nourishing soil, adding a premium charcoal (so good for your area - try it just one garden and gauge the results) and healthy greenery to complement the pittosporum ?
The back is calling out for a substantial pergola. I'm thinking Tuscany, Italy where it's baking hot and yet they move from one cool spot to another in their gardens all with the clever use of structure. Watch 'italianproperty I think I'm going to cry" (He's a salesman) But we are looking at this lovely home's pergola. From @ 23.45. It just looks cool even though he's wearing shorts. The considerable brick column and wooden beams - notice one is squared off but the other is more rounded - reclaimed wood? What it says to your children - we are substantial.
Watch XO Macenna. She, yes she, bought an old cottage near your neck of the woods and renovated it Her dad is a builder, I only saw him once but she gets his advice. Ask the right people the right questions., and she listens to instructions so YOU can do all this. 'Exterior Makeover Part 2'. She's a character but she inspires me. xx

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much! Ive been rereading it and thinking about it and watched Italian property and love it! The pergola and the outdoor barbecue kitchen spot was just what we have been envisioning. It is very hot here! For a long time I’ve loved those types of gardens and have read and watched about them. I’ll look at the rest you recommended I do follow the first you mentioned. Completely agree with the pittosporum! It’s been a favorite part of this new home. I thought I was going to remove it when I saw it in photos of the home but in person oh my goodness what a beautiful plant and sooo tough! I’m going to have fun dressing it up. Thank you so much for your suggestions they are very much appreciated. 🙏💐💚💚💚💚💚💚
