Not actually any louder. The number of changing displays per second doesn't change with the length of the snake.

@@15Redstones Why wouldnt it change? the entire length of the snake changes constantly so each new one will increase the total ?
Since you can display text on it, I would use it to create a text based game like colossal-cave-adventure. I think the flapping sound it makes when it's slowly writing a sentence would sound very cool!
Why this doesn't have over a million views baffles me.

The explanation is that most of the videos on this channel don't work well with the algorithm. CZcams is penalizing the channel for having Cannabis content. Also penalizing this video for the missing like/dislike counter.

Unfortunately, I've only seen flap displays as line number indicators on subway cars, but nowhere else. They definitely should be used more often for their iconic look and feel.

@George Corbul Indeed, this type of displays is closely associated with airports. However, the last time I was at an airport (around 2015), they only used LCD screens. Surely, they might have been there earlier, but the only other time I've been at an airport is almost two decades ago, so I can't remember seeing them anymore...
@@stephenb.8381 Frankfurt (Germany) still has one giant split flap display. But they need higher maintenance. They only keep it for the look and the tradition.
@@OatFoundry can you make a split flap TV? basically this with a hdmi input and some controller to convert the display image of a PC to ASCII. then you could play GTA V on it or watch a movie on the split flap screen lmao
I've seen a hybrid system used on some older buses here in the UK, they use a flip disc display

This is great! An interesting touch is that horizontal steps are faster than vertical steps, to equalize overall speed at this non-square pixel aspect ratio. Not sure I’d have done that because I favor a consistent rhythm. Also mind that the tail’s speed becomes nonsensical.

Not too long ago finished programming original Snake using Javascript.
Literally two days ago finished programming my first web page flip clock.
My brain: " hmmmm, this looks so interesting; wonder how they did that?"
Me " ... Don't you even think about it brain..... no way are you attempting this..."
Anyway, brilliant project and hilarious idea - I can't begin to imagine how you guys went about programming the game...

So are the spinning character segments just a "phantom snake" to help you get your bearings, and it's only the solid segments that count?
The spining characters are the disaply going back to blank.

There is a small bug, the 'pixel' where you pick up the food doesn't start shuffling when the snake eats it so it doesn't look like it's part of the snake
But great work!
from what I can tell, the shuffling tail of the snake isn't actually part of the snake. you can see the full white blocks of the snake grow as it eats X's
the white block is the next in line after the blank squares, but to go back to blank it has to go through every character
I don't believe this display can go back and forth between characters, which is why it has to go through everything
when the snake eats the X, it shuffles back to the blank position, but because it's starting at X it cycles through faster
so I think more so the shuffling isn't part of the snake, but is pixels "dimming" down
