    That's a nice looking J frame, I have a very similar one, it's not scandium like yours but it's the aluminum Wesson 438 with the humpback. I had a custom XS tritium site attached. My gun weighs 15 oz I think yours weighs 11 or so since aluminum weighs more. But gotta love that dark Matte finish of the 340, 360, 442, and 438.

      @devildog_iii3492  Před rokem +1

      Yea this one’s 11oz, I had the PD and it was even lighter but it also had issues. I’d rather have the stainless cylinder anyway. I love the 438, have always wanted one and it just never works out.. how did they attach the XS?

    My 340 With the .357 125 grain factory load the recoil is fierce. Remington 38 special+p 125 grain sjhp is manageable to me. Mine has crimson trace laser grips which I like cause my eyes aren't what they used to be. 357 reloads can be reloaded to acceptable impact. Love the gun and will continue to shoot to get professional soothing accuracy.

    Shooting full house magnum loads from my 340PD feels like catching a 90 MPH fastball barehanded. Five rounds was enough! Also, I noticed you slapped the cylinder into the frame. It’s your gun & you can do whatever you like but you may not realize this could damage it if done repeatedly over time. The best way to close the cylinder is to push on the yoke until the cylinder clicks into place.

    Nice review. I have a 360PD and just ordered a 340PD. The higher backstrap on the 340 MP & PD make it more manageable regarding recoil and hand comfort for me. You got a screaming deal for 600, but that was a few years back. No more of that.

    GET A GRIP.
    340PD is the first time I ever had a gun actually hurt my hand.
    (Titanium cylinder instead of stainless, saves a couple more ounces)
    .357 Magnum loads out of an 11-ounce 340PD revolver - I knew it would not be gentle. I decided to try the puny factory grip - with the new Hogue Monogrip standing by for installation. Oh, the factory grip was coming off anyway, and the .38 recoil really wasn't all that bad.
    But with 125-grain defensive hollowpoint 357s in the 340PD....
    First round: DAMN!
    Second round: Yes, it really does hurt.
    Third round: Not sure I really want to finish this cylinder out.
    Fourth round: My hand HURTS. Well, only one more round left.
    Last round: [PROFANITY] I'm done.
    I don't think I ever hit my intended target. And I didn't care.
    The rear of the frame ripped skin from the web of my thumb, and my thumb was numb.
    In .38, I had a 642 Magnaported to mitigate muzzle flip but the best fix for recoil is a larger grip. My favorite was machined out of beautiful Cocobolo. Fit my big hand perfectly, all three fingers had a secure home on the grip, and control was finally achieved! Pocket carry works far better with wood, as the rubber grip grabs the fabric in your pocket and will not slide out smoothly.
    The larger Hogue Monogrip (under $30) is a great place to start. Crimson Trace laser grip for this gun works exceptionally well on the 642, but I'm not certain it will solve the recoil problem with .357.

  • @ArizonaAirspace
    @ArizonaAirspace Před 7 měsíci +1

    The key to handling recoil is not to brace against it but let the force flow through by not fighting against it. Also, believe it out not, one handed grip makes it easier to handle the 357 MAG. Obviously a Pachmeyer or Hogue mono soft rubber grip makes it tolerable. It is very accurate once you get used to the recoil.

    You say that you want to try buffalo bore heavy .357 ammo.
    I hope that you tell us how it went and whether there were any crimp jumps and what you did about it.
    By the way, the buffalo bore heavy .357 magnum outdoorsmen and the "BUFFALO BORE HEAVY 357 MAG 180 gr. JHP (1,500fps/M.E. 899 ft. lbs.)" would be highly interesting.

      Devildog Minuteman about the only way my hand can handle the 357 is with the gold dot short barrel the full House 357 has literally made my hand bleed, and yes it’s not got the numbers regular 357 has it also doesn’t blind you with all the in burnt powder. So I feel it’s a even trade off

      So brother would say this is the perfect pocket carry? I had the .38 version airweight which was so light I fell asleep with it in my cargo pocket several times. I was going to buy this one with the crimson trace and load it with g2 R.I.P ammo but I don’t think I’ll ever put 400 rounds through it form the looks of your hand are you keeping it?
