Even asked them if his original Andy is respected, which Max told him that he's one of his friends.

Interesting! I think it's a reference to the voice acting (with Clone Andy's voice having a sorta mechanical filter, and having a more monotone delivery in lines), as well as pointing out how Clone Andy's speech mannerisms are almost completely robotic. But yeah, I did not notice that, thank you for pointing it out!

Fun fact: the only one who is adamant that Andy attacked their home is Eagle, which makes sense because he fights from the skies, so he would likely not get a very good look at the clone, and likely wouldn't be able to tell them apart well enough. The other character who mentions Andy attacking their home is Drake, and he realizes Andy isn't guilty after the first battle with the real Andy. Olaf attacks Orange Star because he's being directly manipulated by Sturm, and Grit is just following Olaf's orders while trying to figure out who is pulling the strings, Kanbei is just trying to repel what he sees as invaders in his home, and Sonja is also investigating what is really going on, similar to Grit.

What makes it clever too, is Andy is the new recruit of Orange Star. The one nobody knows. Black Hole would have never gotten away with cloning Max or Grit, or Sami or Sonja, or Nell or Olaf, because they all know each other. Also, that means Orange Star and Blue Moon, and Orange Star and Yellow Comet have interpersonal relationships between each other and, at least potentially, know each other's CO's rather well. Andy was quite literally the only Orange Star CO Black Hole could actually get away with cloning, and even then Green Earth is the only nation they could feasibly send him too.
Eagle could see Andy's eyes, which means he was close enough to see his eyes. you can't see someone's eye from the sky.

@@urbanberndtsson Advance Wars 2 does give a reason, in the first Factory Mission. There are spies within their ranks that are actively smuggling supplies to Black Hole, they might have been smuggling intel before as well.
This gets confirmed in Dual Strike when Nell says their new prototypes: Megatank, Carrier and Stealth Plane was stolen by Black Hole spies as well. Fair enough, we're stealing Black Bomb, Blob, and Piperunner, and Black Boat from Black Hole. And I'd do anything to steal that Black Bomb, 5 HP AOE guaranteed damage anywhere in the map.

You got absolute barbarianism in Flak, unethical science in Lash, egotism in Adder, Hawke wanting to push his own power no matter what, and Sturm is a warmongering tyrant, but you can hear it in the theme, there is something deeply, deeply wrong with Clone Andy. It likes pain and misery, fixes things that breaks other things, and only loyal to others as far as they have the means to turn it off if it isn't.
clone's theme is the essence of being fake. andy's theme is in major key, while clone's theme is in minor key. so despite it being a remix of andy's theme, which you can clearly hear, it always sounds "off" because of that key change. and the black hole instrumentals add a layer of distortion to it to give you the sense that something clearly isnt right. in a sense, clone is trying so hard to copy andy but cant quite get it right, as noted by one of his COP activation lines being "initiate mimicry" before saying andy's COP line, and also his bio simply stating his likes are "whatever andy likes".
@@MasterOfTruck yet he's imperfect, to its horror. One of it's fears is "ladybugs, they're scary". When confronted by real andy about its uncharacteristic and un-andy like speaking it uses hyper repair to fix itself cause it cannot compute itself failing to mimic andy perfectly.
Say what you want about Dual Strike, but the moment with Clone Andy dying at the end of his mission is pretty damned sad and probably the best story moment in the entire series.

Since Andy is the newest CO of Orange Star, Black Hole had a devious idea of “if we clone a newcomer the opposition wouldn’t know what to expect” An inhumane lab experiment later and you got the first Bioengineered CO.
Ironically, he was an engineer and also the clone acts like a robot.
Does this mean hat Flak is the second bioengineered CO, since they are just a promoted Black hole Trooper and as such, probably a clone?

And then Von Bolt was like "Fuck it, if it worked once it’s gonna work twice" and at this point cloning Andy is just Black Hole tradition.

@@thunderknight4149 They don't use the same instruments, but they both back up their guitars with sci-fi synth sounds: This one at the 0:11 second mark and Sturm's at the 40 second mark (czcams.com/video/pLC1_rM4nWg/video.html). They're both also played in minor key, while Andy's is played in major key, which is why this one sounds so much more ominous rather than upbeat despite having the exact same beat.
Fun fact, if you select a different color for Clone Andy, you get the Advance Wars Dual Strike Clone Andy Skin.

The fight against Fake Andy was incredible story-wise, but also challenging. The fact that his CO power allows his units to sink into the ground and pop out wherever they want, and can still attack and move again after that is very powerful. But him having a weakness to snow and air units makes up for it very well, especially with Andy's Hyper Repair. 8/10 gameplay wise. Story-wise, the idea of Black Hole having many "failed" cloning experiments, but Sturm decided for one to be selected and improved it is pretty intriguing. However, it is a pretty dumb reason for the war to be started, can't believe they didn't realize it wasn't Andy. Story 7/10 Design is EXCELLENT. I can't even describe how good it is. However, it does affect the story a bit too much. 9/10 Overall, Fake Andy is an intriguing battle, but with minor flaws.

@@madquack6449 "Ladybugs" probably refer to tracking devices (for espionage) as it would make much more sense plot-wise, though normally they're just called bugs. The devs probably used "ladybugs" so players won't confuse C.Andy having the same miss as Sonja ("bugs" aka computer/software bugs).

It was also cool that for the mission where you fight clone Andy you also fight a clone version of the Orange Star army, and you fight Black Hole when fighting Sturm, it makes fighting clone Andy more unique I think. Since in the original game the black hole army was just reskinned Orange star, which is now unique to clone Andy.
I guess that in the remake the rule still applies that (at least in custom games) the style of every unit is the one from the fraction the CO originated with the current fractions color
I always wondered if in the original game, it was just the devs not thinking to make unique Black Hole tech, or if it was supposed to be Sturm fooling everyone. I really like how the remake seems to have split the difference, it's now justified why Clone Andy uses recolored Orange Star tech. And then Sturm shows up with the REAL army.
I was actually going into the remake hoping they "fixed" that for AW1, and they did.

Also a little detail, infantry, mech, and other units where troops are shown, have the same colors as Dual Strike Olaf, Drake, Kanbei and of course, Andy's clones

They should have given him a hyper upgrade so we could use him in AW2 style. Seems odd he got made into a seperate character with his own soldiers but not this.
it is interesting when you compare him to sturm, who doesnt even have a normal co power. so clone andy decides to not have a super co power.
@@MrMariosonicman Having no SCOP isn’t an immediate loss. Heck, Colin can just spam his CO power the whole game with no issue, so why can’t Clone Andy who has Andy’s CO power with extra firepower?

I’d say they should’ve given him Hyper Downgrade, it can either downgrade units to weaker versions while taking away 3 HP or be a complete reverse Andy’s Hyper Upgrade and remove 5HP while decreasing movement of opposing units by 1 but it would have to expensive like maybe Hawke’s Black Storm to be fair.
Colin gets away with his COP spamming because 1.5x gold is a completely broken ability. +10 to attack/def and 2 HP is trash and it costs 1 more star than Colin's too. Maybe at 2 stars and 20% buffs it would be less sad. Oh well, at least in AW1 format he's not a nerfed character.
Y'know the devs cared about what they were making when they took one of the most generic villains from the series that's LITERALLY a copypaste of Andy sprite wise and made it a completely new character. As well as more badass! Such a shame they didn't give him a super, but y'know what we still got this banger and they went all out on making him unique, especially in the animations. Definitely gonna main him in skirmish, war room and just casual battles!
My greatest achievement was beating my little brother as Colin, my dad as Hawke, and CPU Controlled Sturm with Clone Andy on a balanced map all things considered.
I like how in advance wars dual strike they expanded the concept of clones in that game, they even brought back clone andy for one of the last missions, if i remember correctly you had to fight clones of Andy, Olaf, Kanbei and Drake, it was nice to see at least one CO get cloned from each faction

Yep! I always found it weird how it did the main characters/leaders clones, and then there's just Drake. Eagle would've fit more as a clone there.
@@Syngrafer Is Drake not Green Earth’s leader though? He’s often the glue of the team, easing tensions between Jess and Eagle and pulling the latter back to think more rationally and observe. For that matter, Andy isn’t the leader of Orange Star; that’s Nell.

Honestly just hoping the next step isnt just a reboot of dual strike, and instead is a new game entirely. Praying that this game sells enough for us to get the Black Hole rising second wind that saved the franchise back on the GBA
I do want a reboot/upgrade of dual strike. It had a lot of potential and I want to see it truly achieved.

You know, I thought about this and it didn't make much sense, but if someone as careful as Sturm were to implant a fear into a clone, it would be one that would assist in fighting counterintelligence. Ladybug would mean Sonja's surveillance devices.
Hot damn. How did a one-off character, who isn't even a separate character in the original, manage to get the best overall theme?
wish they gave him a super co power or even just a passive effect like a weak regen effect to his troops that kicks in every so often could even spin it as a degraded copy of andys super co power thats always active... or why not flip it in reverse a version of "hyper upgrade" that damages all of his troops in exchange for a massive boost with some kinda scaling factor would kinda make sense as clones are often seen as expendable.
The music guys went fricken advance mode on this reboot and S-ranked the whole thing.

I wish they had given him a Super for AW2 battles as well, but it's still cool that they gave him so much unique stuff outside of that anyway. Just would of been nice to go that one extra step.

It’s like a Bad Future Version of Andy’s Theme if you’re familiar with Sonic CD’s Good, Present and Bad Future themes, I’d say the regular Andy Theme is the Present theme and the Andy CO Power theme is the Good Future theme!

Back when Wars World clones weren’t so off-color and Eagle mistaking the clone for the real deal was a little more believable. -What’s less believable in RBC is him leading what’s clearly Black Hole troops since back in the original, Black Hole units were recolors of Orange Star. At least then it seemed like they were acting more covertly even if they didn’t do that great of a job as they could have.-
Then again the Clone Andy uses Orange star troops albeit coloured black. In both the original and Reboot.

This is what actually happened in Dual Strike. Black Hole under Von Bolt cloned the other COs. Would be interesting to hear all the villain remixes.

Would’ve been cool if Clone Andy returned in AW2 and a bit of a buff to his troops and power to be better than regular Andy and his motivation could’ve been to destroy the real Andy and be only Andy standing or maybe even go deeper into the Clone’s psyche of going from calm and emotionless to downright insane trying to beat Andy and prove he’s superior to the original.
Headcanon: He is Hyper Upgrade. How exactly? OG and Clone work together to restore over double the HP for the troops.

Would've liked to know what this would sound like with the original GBA instrumentation, not gonna lie.
Clone andy's Super power would mostlikely be "Hyper-sabotage" which would be a 3 hp drain on the enemy. (if we really wanna follow the "clone" trend it would be 6 star cost, but I believe 7 would make it slightly more balanced)

Power & Super Power ideas (Advance wars 2)
Power: Hyper sabotage (Andy units gets + 1 hp enemy units gets -20% firepower)
Superpower: Hyper Downgrading (Clone Andy units heal + 2 hp + 10% firepower & Defense (stacks with default powers boost), Enemy units gets - 20% fire power and - 20% defense)

My only issue with this guy is that they didn't give him a Super Power when playing in Style 2. I get it, he didn't appear in the original AW2, but they could've done a copy/paste of Andy's Super Power for him...

Clone Andy is a great alternative to Andy for the standard. It's tons of fun to play as him for the music.... provided, you are playing Advance Wars 1 mode.
If you switch it to Advance Wars 2, Clone Andy suddenly becomes the worst character in the game; yes, I'd argue worse then Flak... for one simple reason: Clone Andy does not have a Super Co Power in Advance Wars 2. So he is just an objectively inferior version of Andy in every way. Andy got a major buff with Hyper Upgrade in AW2 which made him feel great to use, Clone Andy is stuck with Hyper Repair... which isn't enough. Against all the other COs, he struggles to have any staying power in Advance Wars 2 due to this, and I really don't understand why they didn't just give him Hyper Upgrade. Flak may have stupid levels of rng nonsense, but at least he can get results.
to be fair, he does retain the 10% boost to firepower when using his power. Not that it balances things out that much, but hey, +10/+10/+2hp each 2 or 3 turns isn't thaaat bad compared to what lash gets on naval/air focused maps for example
@@sasir2013 I understand that, which is decently useful. I just do not understand why they didn't just give him Hyper Upgrade. I get that Clone Andy wasn't in Advance Wars 2, but... leaving him the same makes picking him always objectively bad. It's never a good option over regular Andy in AW2. Whereas in AW1, it was personal preference. Actually, beating all the Advance Wars 2 Challenge Room maps with Clone Andy would probably be harder then doing it with Flak.

While clones/dark versions of a character are an overdone concept, I am still a sucker for this trope
So, I’m not very experienced with advance wars, but I want to pitch in a way to make Clone Andy somewhat unique, for AW2 style. To make up for lack of Superpower, he gets a day to day power. @@sasir2013 Yeah, that’s kinda what I was going for. People really only use Andy and Rachel for Super CO Power. So why not make Clone Andy’s hyper repair somewhat good by pairing with a repair focused day to day, if it’s his sole power. Hyper Upgrade with that day to day would be broken
Want a team rainbow rocket in ultra sun and moon(Pokemon, of course) like days of ruin post game where clone andy and other aw1+2 COs are causing havoc and trying to ruin their main counterparts legacy(imagine Andy not being too familiar with airports resulting in something that caused the apocalypse)
Alright. I get a country getting framed for an attack due to the assailants looking exactly like said country's military, but knowing the commanding officer at the time of the attack? What, was clone Andy just walking around the battle field in the open exclaiming that he is attacking for no reason? Also, why did Sturm have to clone a CO? He doesn't have AI command or something?
I mean, it would be slightly harder to frame Orange Star if Clandy and his troops remained 'anonymous'. Given Sturm's plan to trick the nations into destroying each other then swiftly moving in to take over, it makes perfect sense that Clandy would HAVE to be forward and out in the open. Plus Andy was the only OS CO they could clone which wouldn't cause immediate suspicion due to how many COs in Wars World are personally connected and would immediately know if something was different.
Plus given opposing COs are seemingly able to communicate with each other from across the battlefield, possibly even with video communication, thats just more ways to put Clandy front and center so when the attacked COs see the real Andy later on they will see that as confimation beyond any shadow of a doubt that Orange Star did attack, unaware they had originally faced a clone of him.
