The thing is, the M340i and M550i are far closer in terms of balancing performance and comfort to the classic M cars of the 90s and 2000s than the new M cars are. The current generation M cars are far more track oriented than the classic M3 and M5, so the M3409 and M550i actually occupy that space that the M cars once did. So arguably BMW could have called the M340i and M550i the M3 and M5, and then had an all new classification for the track M cars.

Someone who knows what they are talking about. On the track the M340i would get found out but on the road I can't feel much difference in performance between this and the previous gen F8x. With the M340i though you flick a switch and it goes back to sleepy mode. Also does 45mpg in Eco mode which comes in handy sometimes. The F8x can't do that. For the road the M340i is the one to have.

The M340i is a fantastic sport sedan on a great platform. Very quick from the factory and tuneable for more power. Good looking car.
That said, the M3 is quite a bit different in the way it drives and delivers its power - it is a much more lively and special-feeling setup.
I own a ‘23 M3CX and my friend owns a ‘22 M340i xDrive. Both great but there is significant differentiation under the skin.

@@Brian_Eugene_Lee Even better - Tanzanite Blue, which is so dark in low light that it may as well be black but is a deep shade of blue in daylight and still hides the nose well (if that's your concern).

This is a road tuned fast car. The full M is a track tuned fast car. If you like to track or just want to show off, get the full M. If not then this M340i model is the better choice for daily driving.
Ignore the ignorant opinions from people who have never tried one. If you are buying new, you want all the options. Yes it is expensive. Yes it is good. Yes it is worth it.

Beautiful car and excellent engine......the hard core Bimmer fans will have an issue with the M badge on a non M car...but all good. I think it has the spirit of an M car....it just allows the M badge to be more attainable and gives you a sense of pride in ownership :)

I don’t own a bmw but so funny to see ppl refuse to call a car by the name a manufacturer names it lol. I guess if I spent 20-30 grand more on a “M” car I’d scream at the wall too😂

LOL @ the Pool comment! 😀 I agree 100%, people (YT Reviewers specifically) need to get over the 'I need to feel the road more' mantra. It was great to suggest driving a car without power steering, maybe they'll adjust their opinion afterwards. The styling does absolutely nothing for me, but I really enjoyed another great review from you. Thanks for posting!

Thank you for your support! I will say some EPS systems are worse than others… for example, I’m driving a Supra right now and I thought this M340i drives a lot better.

This generation of 3 series is gorgeous. I really don’t even like bmw after having 2 and maintenance killed me. But I really like this one.

Those features are all for additional money. Base car is emty. No lane keeper no distance keeper ...nothing!

totally agree. With all the features, these cars get crazy expensive. Had a bare 330i loaner a couple of years ago, it had nothing and was mid $50k. The 4cyl was rough, buzzy and under powered. the ride was bouncy and it didn't handle particularly well. It didn't have many of the basic features. It was no better than a mid spec'd civic. For that kinda of money, there are so many other better choices, especially EVs. I guess it's no wonder why sales have fallen so drastically in the US.

First of all, this is not an "M" car we all know that this is an M sport" it's not meant to be an "M" car. AMG does the same exact thing badging their "performance-oriented cars all AMGs. Secondly, the 0-60 times he is quoting are inaccurate as most enthusiasts know BMW's numbers are conservative. I have seen reviews and draggy times of this car hitting 3.7/3.8 in the 0-60. obviously, there are a lot of different factors that determine this but I'm speaking in general terms.

  • @ka124as

Totally agree with you with the m badge. Doesn’t deserve the same emblem. Maybe like a little rectangular plaque under the 340

    • @biddyboy1570
      @biddyboy1570 Před 11 měsíci

It's an M division road tuned fast car. As opposed to the full M which is a track tuned fast car. What's not "M" about the 340i?
With lower gearing and the hybrid electric boost, the M340i will feel quicker off the lights and around town than the full M.
