  • We discuss the history of one of Nissan's most best vehicles and one which is currently heavily sought after in the used market. We go over what led to the Xterra's production, how it evolved over its 16 year life and 2 generations, and what led to its eventual discontinuation.
    Tell me about your Xterra or your opinions on it in the comments! I'll respond to everyone!

    Just a couple things to note so people don't get confused. When this video introduced the second gen, a photo of an Xterra post facelift(09'-15') is being used. The 05'-08' have a slightly different grill/bumper layout where the grill doesn't protrude down into the grill. The center dash changed slightly as well and white gauge clusters were added to the Off Road models, which was then carried over to the Pro-4x. The Pro-4x trim did indeed replace the Off Road trim in 2011 although there wasn't much of a difference between the two aside from badging and whatnot. The 2008 Off Road trim is when the roof lights were introduced and those were carried over to the Pro-4x models. All of the Off Road trimmed vehicles came equipped with an M226(Dana 44 variant) rear axle with an electronic locker, Bilstein 4600 shocks, hill descent assist(for automatics), upgraded interior material, 265/75/R16 tires, 3 skid plates(oil pan, gas tank, & transfer case), six spoke 16" wheels(Pro-4x models changed the 6 spoke design for 14'-15' a bit), etc.
    It would have been nice to see you dive into what each trim level offered as far as options go or the paint colors they offered for various years although I understand that'd be a pretty in depth video. Aside from what I mentioned above and maybe a few other things that are slipping my mind, well done.
    The Nissan Xterra is a perfect example of everything you need and nothing you don't. While it has it quirks, it's amazing for what it is. I'll never sell my 05' Off Road and enjoy driving it both off and on road.

      I appreciate the input! I have gone deeper into individual trim levels in other videos but it seems like information the average person wouldn’t care too much about, like 8 speakers instead of 6 or automatic instead of mechanical seats or chrome door handles lol. Seemed kinda silly to list all that but idk

      Also the 2nd generation manuals came with a clutch override button! You could start the car in gear and for a second or two you had 100% crawl control before you had to put the clutch back in to my knowledge. It's basically a recovery button for the manual since you have 3 pedals but only 2 feet I believe. I also think it took place of the hill descent control button in the manuals, as in they swapped them out on the manual models

    I just picked up a 2015 S model yesterday and love it! I've always loved the look of the Xterra and now that I own one love how it handles among other things. Truly a great off roader, and for the money compared to a 4runner, FJ or Jeep you can't go wrong.

    • @jackalproductions2352
      @jackalproductions2352  Před 2 lety +1

      You’re absolutely correct l, 4Runners, jeeps, and FJs are all very expensive just because of the prestige they have, making you pay more than you need to. The Xterra can give you almost everything those cars can do for a fraction of the price

    I've had 2 Xterras and loved them both. Was gutted to find out they discontinued it despite the popularity of them. I've seen so many on the roads still, and I'm shocked they haven't brought them back. They are really missing the mark with the new redesigned Bronco and 4Runners out there. In looking to trade in my most recent Xterra, I was honestly looking at 4Runners and Broncos, but didn't like the hood size. I opted for a 2021 Frontier instead as it's the closest I could find to my beloved Xterra. I've seen awesome renderings of a 2022 Frontier to an Xterra and Nissan would do well if they actually brought it out.

    I bought my 2012 Pro 4x brand new and I have 121k on it now. Always wanted an Xterra, because it's an SUV that does not look like other SUV's. It's my go anywhere and do anything vehicle. I live in NorCal and it's perfect for all my adventure needs. I've only ever had it serviced at my local Nissan dealer, and have never had any major issues. And every time I bring it in they try to get me to sell it to them, but there is no replacing it. It's a tank... and gets about the same mpg as a tank. Especially now that I did the melt mod and squeezed on some 285 BFG KO2's. Think I average about 15-16 highway. One day I may go nuts and do a full suspension upgrade and kit it out for overlanding, but I think it's more special unmodified.

    I too miss my 2000 Xterra SE 4x4. Bought her new in May of 2000. That thing did everything i ask of her. Only mods was a slight lift 1" and front wheel well trimming to run 31" swamper mudtires during hunting season. When I traded her in for a new Nissan Titan Pro--4x she had 215,000miles. Only mechanical issue was the infamous leaking exhaust manifold and I did the water pump and timing belt (or chain) at 130,000miles. Radio, CD player, CD changer, cassette player, AC & all the other electronics worked like it was new. I do miss the amount of gear I could carry in the back.

    And now you know why so many of us former Xterra owners are so pissed off at Nissan...for not giving us what we want: A NEW F'N XTERRA.! 👿 I've owned a 1972 Datsun 720 pickup, cherry condition, a 1993 Nissan hard body pickup and my last one was a 2000 Xterra. The one I miss most? My Xterra. I lost my job back and just couldn't afford to keep it. Damn. To this day, I still miss that little green monster.

    I bought a new 2010 OFFROAD 4X4 model and it now has 107,000 miles. No mechanical issues whatsoever. I change transmission oil every 40,000 and engine oil every 3000, old school schedule. It is in the garage when not on the road and because of this the black shines like new after a dual action rotary wax job. I love this X. I also had a 2004 model before the OFFROAD. It didn't come close to the 2010 as far as all around quality and versatility. i purchased a 100,000 nissan warranty on the '10 when I bought it new it and never had to use it. (By the Way) why in the hell did they change from OFFROAD 4X4 to PROX4? That is corny.
    By the way, if your looking for an X of either generation with good gas mileage, forget it, buy a GEO I guess.

    I wish Nissan would bring it back. There's a definite lack of body on frame SUV's available... You have the Bronco, Wrangler, and 4Runner. Nissan is missing out on possible market and they already have a new frame to build on with the 3rd gen Frontier. I have a 2010 Titan V8 swapped Xterra Off Road and I don't see myself getting rid of it.

    • @jackalproductions2352
      @jackalproductions2352  Před 2 lety +2

      Especially with the success they are seeing with the new generation frontier, they could just put an SUV body on the frontier and call it an Xterra and I’m sure it would be a hit! My guess would be that it would make it harder for Nissan to meet its CAFE requirements in the US
