  • Fisher Investments’ founder, Executive Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Officer Ken Fisher discusses the difference between growth and value stocks. According to Ken, there is a time and place to invest in each category. Value stocks tend to fare better in early bull market cycles while growth stocks tend to outperform in mature bull markets due to their ability to continue growing earnings amid slowing economic activity. Ken says the category emphasized in your portfolio should depend on analysis of a bull market cycle, but diversification can be an important guardrail against risk.
Ken believes the current bull market, beginning in March 2020, has an old soul-behaving like an extension of the previous bull market, which started in March 2009. According to Ken, this helps explain why growth stocks have continued leading value stocks, despite a bit of a tug-of-war. Today, when most expect value stocks to outperform, Ken says it could pay to think like a contrarian.

Thank you so much for this highly valuable content - like always! The terms growth and value are so differently by various people. This is the first time, I have heard a definition of growth and value stocks one can really work with.

Ty so much for sharing your knowledge and experience! I hope that will never end! It's also what I experienced, just do the opposite what everybody tells - when we think about the market as a cycle of driving in overvalue and undervalue in his extremes about growth and value stock and stocks in general.

The media seems more confused than me on which way to go. I'm at +12.45% YTD with BRK.B and Energy stocks. Now only Berkshire,
Sounds like you're saying growth? I'm thinking recession and have a lot of cash on the sidelines. Are we in a value or growth cycle? Thanks, and I never miss your videos. Especially the video where you say unless you know more about a stock than anyone else does then you shouldn't be investing in stocks. Best advice on investing in liquid markets.
So I closed out my positions and went with Mr. Buffet.

Ken.. where do you think we are right now in the cycle.. Im guessing you think we are late in the bull market.. How much longer does the bull have to run?
