Ah ha! I bought a cheap replacement carb for my GCV520, but it is still hunting. The part was sold as for use in both the 520 and 530 engines, but this video shows that the jets are different for each, which might explain the hunting issue. Time to strip, clean, and replace the original Mikuni carb.
Apologies for no sound on this video. It was uploaded in 2011 and was one of the earliest videos that was provided as a helpful 'show real' for cleaning the Carb.
I have the same carburettor on my GCV 530..It sputters on intake and pendulum speed..do I just need to clean or replace the carburetor completely? Thanks for your help
Useful video, but it needs sound. What goes in the pilot needle holes when the blanks have been drilled out and the screws replaced? The video suggests some kind of mastic, what is it? Secondly it appears that the demonstrator screws the needles down tight and then unscrews them, half a turn? Or was it a full turn? We need to know!
@petersmith2421, 7 years later your observation & comment about the needles being tightened then opened a turn by the demonstrator has just helped me out no end. Having replaced the carberator on my honda 2315 ride on mower it still surged etc this has continued for over a year. Replaced fuel filter, fuel pump stripped the carb down, cleaned jets still no joy. Went out to the garage this morning, adjusted the needles and hey presto ive just cut my grass with this mower. Thank you my friend.
I need help understanding what the “pilot jet settings” mean. I have zero mechanical background or formal technical instruction. I’m all learn-as-you-go DIY. Can someone explain? I can’t find any explanation anywhere. Plus, the terminology seems to be loosely defined or without any clear standard. My emulsion tubes had rubber plugs that do not stick out past the end of the tube. Thx much.
What was used to fill those holes where the(I believe) pilot nozzles came out? The covers were drilled out to remove them - and then it appears some kind of glue/sealant is put in their place. Was that some kind of silicone? This was helpful as I just pulled this carb apart myself - sadly I'll need new gaskets and at least two of the screws that hold on the float chamber because they stripped out so very easily that I ended up having to us needle nosed pliers and lots of grip to get them free - very soft metal. Thanks - wish there was sound!
The fluid used to refill the drilled out material seems to be from ThreeBonds. It could be TB1212 threebond-europe.com/de/product/function/view/?product=15 but I am not 100% sure. Maybe anyone else knows ThreeBond's better than I do.
@@christiandoring5775 I've noticed that TB1212 is white, but the one used in this video is black. It's definitely from the TB1200 range, but can't see exactly which one. Could it be TB1207B?
Annoyingly, I can't seem to find a supplier for the 6mm (¼") brass Welch plugs. They only seem to come in much larger sizes for radiators and automotive engines.
Too difficult trying to work out which Threebond product was used. I'm going to try epoxy putty / mouldable glue. Cheaper, easier to source, and should have the desired result.
Worth mentioning as there is no audio along with this video that the needles need to be opened no.1 1-5/8 and no.2 1-11/16 after tightening down. Discovered this thanks to @petersmith in comments and @shalomsam1445 Super video tho Many thanks
Delicate gaskets, DON'T USE CARB CLEANER on them, successfully drilled and tapped the brass plugs instead, to facilitate service again at a later date. Used 3mm brass screws from a UK 13A household plug, so they can be tapped out with hammer and cats paw.
@@trickysyoutube @4:34 into video, drilling with a 2.5mm bit, so those bungs can be threaded thereafter, for said screws to enable removal, as I guess that mastic is a third of the price of a new carb. Regarding the cleaner, removal of the gasket beforehand, as it will turn them into spaghetti. If anyone will point me to a good thread on some lawnmower forum, I can post some pictures. As of yet, this youtube comment section seems the best resource.
@@Zachry86 I'll have to let others answer that for you as still havent fitted the one I cleaned (the folks who installed this one sprayed some cement like caulk which hardened the gasket) I believe it's mentioned in others comments below, but I failed to make sense of it... so right or wrong, I adjusted them as they were from my pics. Also worth mentioning the PDF's on google images regarding troubleshooting, there are detailed explanations of what to expect regarding each specific jet, and other tricks like the float bowl draining screw to be used before starting up for the season. If you could point me to some forum concerning these, say perhaps a lawnmower or tractor forum, it would be appreciated, as I've not came across a dedicated thread about these. My previous link with pics got removed from the comments, so beware of that if you feel like suggesting somewhere apt. Hopefully there's somewhere suitable which I could post to, so it would pop up on google. All the best Tom
Had a fuel selonoid problem on mine which caused engine surge, took it out and ground off the needle, works like a charm !
What needle did you ground?
Thanks, still helpful even without sound. I hadn't considered drilling out the caps.

The pilot jet setting is on the FSM page in the video, outlined by a red box..
No1 cyl is 1 - 5/8 & No2 cyl is 1 - 11/16
Which cylinder is no 1 and which is no 2 thanks

what is the purpose of solinoid valve there?
Badong 1081 fuel shut off?
It blocks the needle from getting fuel while the mower is off.
merci ,
Unfortunately the Honda GCV 530 carb is not reliable any more, even the 2008 model can't handle the ethanol content in fuel
Hi. Good point. Out of interest, what percentage ethanol were you using? In my region, the minimum ethanol content is now 5% at the pumps.
No sound?

What the hell was Honda thinking by putting those rubber plugs on the end of the emulsion tubes? it's a joke. Honda should be ashamed.

What’s the purpose of those plugs? I’m guessing if they fall off that’s it or will it still be ok?
Anyone knows where to buy them?
