sac43 just think in Russia the snow is so deep that in WW2 they jumped out of airplanes without parachutes. You look at world craft men ship the USA builds it to last a lifetime at what it needs to be Russian over builds to last you and your children lifetime and China builds it enough to sell it to people. Just look at knives. But Japanese they build it to last forever and look beautiful

I think Krampo knew exactly what he was doing, length to degrees, mis-spelling FAHRENHEIT AND AWESOME,
and, it is so funny when some youngster takes things so seriously, and gets all excited to be able to "DO CORRECTIONS" especially when the source was speaking "TONGUE IN CHEEK" as if he was trying to get away with something, that he knew was SALACIOUS.
Some people have no idea, how intricate and complex life really is, until they get past some of the early trials, then all of a sudden life opens up, and then promises many more, "REALLY INTERESTING" subjects.

Working in Alberta Canada north of Fort McMurray when temperatures drop to -30c and below. You avoid cotton ,the fabric of death. Absorbs moisture and freezes. Man made fibre or wool is a must. I noticed the rubber soles of my boots would freeze solid and flat ,the rubber sole would become un -flexible. Like walking with your feet nailed to planks of wood.Wearing 3 pairs of wool socks. Using a thermo in-sole . Ice would form between the thermo insole and the frozen solid rubber sole of the leather boot. Drying out boots every day is a must. Damp boots would freeze. And the steel toe cap of the safety boot also transmitted the cool to your toes. Things people do for money!!!!!

Obviously if your going to be active then you have to adjust the socks, either no merino liner or maybe a light to medium weight over sock. But each person has got to find out what works best for them and of course how active they are going to be.

Our Sorel boots with felt liners were daily winter wear when I lived in northern Vermont in the 1970's and 80's. They were big and clunky, but kept your feet dry and warm no matter how cold the weather. Your Russian design is much nicer. They were easy to slip on and off if they weren't laced to tight...perfect when you had to take the dog out first thing in the morning. Super awesome!

You can't really compare the two. I used to have Sorel boots. Caribou. They were good. Then I bought a new pair not long ago. Sorel makes their boots in China now and they are not even good for -10C. The Siberian boots are warm and light, but not made for standing still in. Not too long anyway.

If you can find white bunny boots they are substantially more warm than the black Micky mouse boots. If you can find a BATA brand then it’s even better. Another good US surplus is the air force N1B Mukluks that are relatively cheap. They have a thick wool bootie inside a knee high boot. Here in alaska I’ll use a thin sythetic sock then put my foot in a plastic bag to make a vapor barrier then a thick wool sock into the big thick wool bootie inside the canvas mukluk

What I love about russian products is that they dont care about aesthetics. Russians dont care how their boots look, as long as they work. When you buy clothes somehwere else there is always the style factor involved which usually limits the capabilities of the products. Not so with russian equipment.

In Russia it's different. I'm not sure why. Here people celebrate New Year at 31st Dec only. The orthodox celebrate christmas the 7th of January, but it's not really a big thing like in the West.

Survival Russia .... oh that’s right . I forgot about them celebrating it later . The orthodox Christians still celebrate the Julian calendar .

Holy crap! I paused at 3:37... real fur lined skis. I was expecting fir wood, but no, it is good old prehistoric technology. If it seems stupid, but it works, it ain't stupid.

Due to Lars' influence, I now buy black bread at an eastern European market in Tulsa twice a month. I buy footwraps from Belarus-Ebay, Soviet jack boots from Russia- ebay, canned Russian army meat/ tushanka -ebay, plash palatka- varusteleka, veshmoshock- ebay. Soviet axe- local pawnshop for $15...
It doesn't snow enough in Oklahoma to buy skis... good thing.

Interesting that you mentioin the post office parcels ... I have ordered some Vostok watches and I can attest that the Russian post office is efficient, reliable and logistically awesome. 13 days from Russia to Australia and 4 days Auspost to my door. It can take 3-6 working days to send a letter to Melbourne - 100kms from where I live ... and people scoff when I say I am visiting Russia next year.
UPDATE: Recieved my last Vostok last night 9 days after it landed in Australia, granted it is Christmas but still pretty ordinary - I am able to track all my parcels from Russia to when it lands in Australia.
