Redman on Erick Sermon's House Shot Up & Home Invasions After EPMD Split

- Redman recalls when EMPD's break happened and says the split wasn't amicable. While living with Erick Sermon, the rapper says the feud was based on financial disputes that got so bad that his home was shot up. "It got real crazy. House invasion to E's house getting shot up." He said, "My room that I stayed in at E's house-bullet holes were through that room and s*** and it got pretty crazy!" Redman explained that after his first album release he was hoping to go on tour with EMPD; however, their conflict prevented his dream from coming to fruition. Things got so awkward when the team split, and Red and the team were forced to choose sides.
Things really got "nuts" when E's chain was stolen from the house, and Red says that he and K-Solo went to the thief's home. The pair then forced him to drive them back to Long Island to give the chain back to E. Red admitted that he kept the thief's car for months before giving it back in order to teach him a lesson. - Zábava
I tell people that all the time. Reds first 3 albums are nothing short of masterpieces.
fact
he was a beast. even biggie threw shots his way a few times
+Rick Harding nothing really major but it was just to see if he's on his point that's all
I don't know about that. Dare Iz A Dark Side wasn't all that to me. Actually that album and his Reggie album is his worst Imo. He's still one of the best that ever did it though.
+currywiththeshotboy okay rozay just ignore the fact that Red himself said Dare Iz A Dark Side is the least favorite of his catalog.
I will never forget the first time I heard "You a customer " ,back in 87' I was so ,so blown away , It was nuts ! Then when the LP "Strictly Business" came out , me and my Metalhead bandmates must have played that record 10,000 times until the needle ate through the vinyl !!! We played thrash metal for our bread and butter ,but listened to,and recorded all the old school NYC DJ's spin the real hip hop artists on the radio on cassettes in our private time ! Wow ,do I have some amazing cassettes from 85'-90'

Redman and Ghostface, two of the most consistent throughout their whole career.
Scarface? He's the most consistent in the game period. Never dropped a wack album.
Agreed!
+Perverted .Alchemist i agree
and jada
redman, ghostface, a.z., and busta rhymes to me had the most consistent albums.
"I didn't get the full support of the Hit Squad and that was it." his face when he stops talking haha my dude Redman wasn't happy about that.
The way he got serious after😂😂😂
Word
Redman's first album was a masterclass.
First 3-4 albums*
Redman doesn't get old!!
Redman was eating chicken in the Scenario video. Hilarious!!!
Muddy Waters still gets bump
Yep
Mind blowin how dope that WHOLE album was/is!
"Nighaas, This is fo da bridge"
High Guise shit, all 3 of his first LPs are in rotation
that was his best album
he did a skit on his 1st album in a stolen car!!!!!!! redman the truest!!!!
TroubleChizzy2010 what i mean is most rappers wouldnt actually use a stolen care they would do a skit and the label would probly lend them a car for it or some shit like that but to actually use a stole car is gangster af
+TroubleChizzy2010 Hell yeah!!! New Jersey Drive is still one of my all time favorite films. They jacked cars just for the thrill.
Snuff Daddy Yeah. I think it was that (l be dat video) YUP
@TroubleChizzy2010 well newark aka brick city to be exact lol
4:50 HE'S STILL PISSED ABOUT THE HIT SQUAD BREAK UP, AND THEM NOT BEING TOGETHER FOR HIS FIRST ALBUM
I can read it all in Reggie face
@@NevaSellmySoul Yea, Red seemed like a humble but also a good guy with a good heart. Honestly before the break up you could tell that Redman, K-Solo and Das EFX was very close! Redman would be the DJ for Das EFX shows at the very beginning. So for him to not have the Hit Squad backing him up for his debut album? It fucked him up, even though he decided to go with Erick? You can tell in his mind it was a big decision to make. Sometimes I wondered if PMD ever had issues with Redman? Hopefully that isn’t also why he decide to go separate ways with Erick. I’m pretty sure that Red probably wanted Das EFX and Solo on his debut album. Even though he wasn’t on their debut albums. You can tell that he isn’t selfish either. He wanted his friends on that album with him along with EPMD 💯😞
@@91Definite your truth has been revealed
@@NevaSellmySoul thank you, I guess it’s cause of what I seen from the outside looking in. I mean you gotta understand Redman is a humble person cause of the history he has with Hip Hop. Meeting other emcees even collaborating with them. I just picture Hit Squad a tight clique.
Red looking like Lionel Richie these days.
Joe Kerr ALL NIGHT LONNNNNG!!!😂
@@MrParis215 all niiight!!!!
redman had the best skits on albums
“Malpractice” was my all time favorite of them skits
EPMD was my favorite group back in the 80's an 90's
same here.....damn i was mad as hell when they broke up
Remember my friend playing me Strictly Business back in the 80s and I didn't want to leave his yard..That LP really connected with me..the funk samples and production was different to what I'd been listening to.
Happy they mentioned Jamal. His Last Chance, No Breaks is one of the most underrated 90s hiphop albums
lafairweath3 hell yeah like to see somebody still listens to him
lafairweath3 fuckin right!!!!
“The Game” is so hypnotic. Same as “Situation”. Great album.
Parish Pariah Last Straw
Exactly- that Fades Em All still hits. Redman is an underrated producer
I followed this closely back in the day. I was a huge Hit squad fan; I was hurt when it happened. Definitely rolled Def Squad afterwards.
Did a kid just run by in the background? From him explaining Marley mall to when vlad asks about how he kept creativity
Redman be birthing mcs
I saw that to what da hell
Yes!!! At around 8:00mins in and just stays behind Redman 😆
Redman had THE BEST MTV Cribs ep Evverr!!
K Solo's "Fugitive" is one of the greatest rap records OF ALL TIME.
Cool insight on Red's work ethic 👍🏽👏🏽
The only Redman album I couldn't play straight thru was Malpractice. Everything else this brother has done is CLASSIC! One of the dopest to EVER do it.
I agree. Malpractice was eh..... But I fucks with Red heavy.
That’s crazy. I thought that was a good album but music is subjective. I didn’t like his Reggie album.
Muddy Waters!!
@@brocksampson01 them skits on malpractice was golden it was like a comedy hip hop album 😂
We need a Epmd biopic
I knew about Paris Smith home being invaded but i never knew about Erick Sermon house being shot up. It must have been in retaliation for Erick sending someone to invade Paris Smith house to rob him because he felt Paris was ripping him off in the music biz.
Its crazy how 2 best friends can turn to deadly enemies. Money will do that to ya.
Redman makes for one of the best interviews.
Yup and the wild thing about that home invasion the guys signed the statement admitting it was Erick who paid em $5,000 to break in, Parrish didn’t press charges and the home invaders were on the same tour bus when they went on that World Tour in Sept 92
@@donrome3835 i could be wrong but i think Redman was one of the robbers...
@@46wayne8 oh shit, you might be right, because on the beef dvd the cop who was investigating the home invasion stated that the plate number Parrish gave em one of em had a NJ address and spoke to dude’s mother who had pictures of him and his friends hanging out and the guys who were tied up id’ed 3 of em, so yeah you might be right just connecting the dots
@@donrome3835 Yh trust me smh. On that same vid when Parrish mentions one of the home invaders being on the tour bus they cut to redman and he says that he's riding with E regardless (they try to allude Redman was that guy). Also, Parish and mobb deep did a diss track towards Erick sermon and redman called 'its the Pee'. There were other people under Eric Sermon but he only dissed Redman. I wonder why...
@@46wayne8 I’ll tell you something, a guy name Karceno4life on a video on here broke down the beef between Redman and Parrish Smith! Type in “Karceno4life Red and PMD beef” hopefully that’ll give you alittle better insight of what happened
Redman is without question a............REAL DUDE!!!!! If you have just ONE PERSON who unequivocally has your back, that"s better than having 1,000 people just lingering around you!!! Red ALWAYS gives respect & honor PUBLICLY, to those Hip-Hop artists he came up through the ranks with!!!!! SALUTE!!!!
muddy waters was in my stereo for three years straight.
EPMD got back together, made peace and saw them perform at Crotona Park in Bronx NYC two years ago in summer.Nothing but hits
Way back in the 90’s, my little brother played Street Fighter arcade game in Atlantic City with Redman!
i miss the early 90s..i dont understand why thay said the west coast took over and it took to big to bring it back...not true..epmd redman tribe busta das gang star wu tang keith murry onyx super cat black moon smif and wessin brand nubbin .. i can go on and on..east coast was killing it at the same time dre snoop and pac came out with there solo albums..

His employee.
That was Lil' Red!!!! LOL jokin!
I peeped that and ran to the comments.
trying to tell you. Red man is a legend. He doesn't get mentioned in top 5 rappers of all time for some strange reason. But his first three albums, was amazing and classic. I love the organic feel on all of this material. Red man was to me one of the funny rappers at that time that was nice. even to this day... He's not mentioned in top 10. And in reality Redman is actually top 7.
Red Man will still smash most of these new and old rapers. Young dudes better do your research.....
How solo "knew" who took e's chain??
they need to remake Def Jam Vendetta...🙏
Can't tell if d-mob is d-bo from Friday
Drake would be the first fighter on the game on story mode😂😂
+Markell Frazier no he won't because he's not def jam and that's why it's called def jam not rappers vendetta
+Rodrick Padgett if it was all rappers name 5 current rappers that would kick the most ass
+Rodrick Padgett so all rappers from vendetta and ffny was signed to def jam? I don't think Snoop Dogg was signed to Def Jam
Redman is one of my all-time favs!
Redman, Top 10 dead or alive
Top 5
so true,,,,,,top 5 or 7
Lmao @ dude crawling on the floor at 8:08
Redman is a fresh artist indeed, love his work
Redman can write a t.v. series great stories
Maaaan I can play ALL REDMAN'S ALBUMS all the way thru! Redman shit always been dope! Getting ready to play his shit now!
weird how many artist didnt make much money back in the days although they were famous
A lot of them weren't business savvy
Great interview.
Love the shoutout to Tribe and Tip; these folks are the people that kept the crops of Hip-Hop so rich
Red love them trees boy!!! The "Choice Bud" shirt is hilarious!!!
I feel high just listening to him.
Homeboy at 8:08 got me bugging, lol!
dare iz a darkside is my all time favorite album, its so dope imo
Love that album to death.
Long Isle stand up! We don't get enuff credit. LOD
Along with Nas, Biggie, Ice Cube, Snoop and Tupac, Redman basically embodied early 90's hip hop. Lyrics, beats and just the flow were incredbile. And he was one of the first to put out a colored cassette with "Dare iz a Dark Side".
Cypress Hill needed to be included on that list. They embodied the move into harder hip hop at the start of the 90’s.
If you’re talking early 90’s, it’s more Naughty by Nature, Onyx, EPMD, ATCQ, Pharcyde, Das EFX, Pete Rock and CL...maybe Wu Tang than Big and Tupac. They only really blew up in the mid 90’s.
vlad and his wikipedia reading to look for questions to ask...prolly has the computer infront of him asks a question then looks back at his computer..
"Press rewind if i haven't blown ur mind"- Redman..What thee album?
Red mans story telling keeps you interested real rap
one of the all time greatz...
oh OK thank u Hugh I never seen one like that
Yo, where did that kid come from?
you need to drop the whole damn interview already Vlad..
Nas need to come on here man I wanna hear his stories like this but I don't think he fuck with Vlad
Nas and Em are too above doing Vlad. just being honest. they are still big relevant names. Vlad is more legends who are in that quiet stage or ppl on the come up.
and Nas and Em dont get into their personal biz unless its in their music
Nah, Nas need to be on Drink Champs. That would be legendary
Jam Starr yea i much rather see that cus Nore is fam to Nas. Nas dont give a fuck about Vlad.
exactly I wanna hear more about how a daffy duck looking bitch burnt him
Ever since I heard bout what nas did to megas girl I don't fuck with him. He's a punk
Redman and GhostFace are real reputable MCs with genius pen skills on the mic.
Vlad’s question about how redman was able to be consistent with his first three albums was one of the best questions I’ve heard him ask
That face at 4:48. That should be a meme. Like "when I got to the party all the liquor was gone and blunts smoked up". "Cops got to the weedman house before I did".
Hes just the best. Gotta love RedMan
What’s with kid moving in the background?
Redman is everything i wish i was as a artist
big up mally g and sy scott
is that what happened to Das Efx?
90's was the shit man the last of the real
Redman is the epitome of not being a hater
How can you dislike this?
They all did Parrish Smith dirty. Smh
darkside is my fav redman album. hard ass beats. erick sermon is the king of head nodders and very underrated. DJ Muggs is very underrated as well on the production tip
I swear this dude got the best stories
At 11:33 - See the kid creeping past in the background..? 😂😂😂😂😂
Yes!
Who the little guy creeping back and forth? Lmao..
Lol @ him keeping the theif car the 90s were crazy lol
07:10 - Who dat lil thief creepin' in the background?? Lol
Damn is that why Das Efx disappeared?
I havent heard anyone mention the Mudface album that Red dropped last year. It nice.
"keepin it raw, illegal like Malik and Jamal"
Redman my favorite MC..
LEGEND!!!
stole a stolen car 😂😂😂
So Vlad ain't gone tell Redman he got a braid sticking out? 😂 He foul.
Hit Squad was da bomb back in da day..
I dig EPMD but Erick Sermon seems shady..
+Brandan Evans it was a punchline. It meant nothing else
Redmans tonight's da night is my shit!
I'm rolling. I like how he cut that shit short after bragging about doing some dirt.
7:08
Last Chance No Breaks was a slept-on classic.......
Son even went toe 2 toe w/ Big on "Realms of Of Junior Mafia"
Great artist..
Did anyone see the person creeping behind the camera behind Redman?
Really interesting rapper, good lyricist too.
Vlad has no Virgo in him to sit up there and let Redman sit up there with that braid poking out like that the whole time..
Luv Redman he's very humble and one if the best mcees I remember epmd put him on
Def Squad 4 life!!!!
Whats up with Hurricane G tho?
She got pregnant by Erick Sermon.
Pikkon89 That happened 20 years ago 😅
I'm glad he vouched for Keith's intelligence
Where the Twins at?
Redman one of the top 10 lyricists
OK ,now he had to mention TCQ ! I remember "The Promo ,on the JB's ,then I became so addicted to TCQ ! RIP, Fife Diggity !!

Def Jam had a compilation album called "Survival Of The Illest". That was a beast compilation. *Where has rap gone?...SMH*
