      I was shocked to find out lately that fruit juices are really unhealthy. Most of them are a little bit of actual fruits diluted in water and a lot of added sugar. In terms of added sugar and kcal they are comparable or slightly higher than normal coke/pepsi/ice tea/sprite etc and even some beers! Sure a little bit of fibre and some added vitamin powders are something, but that doesn't compensate much. Eat half an apple and drink all the zero-lemonade you want and you are probably way better off.

    There is a lot of controversy about what is "good" in food. Vegan vs carnivore and variations on that. What I find it strange is that it penalizes food for having energy. That is why we eat in the first place. They could invert the Energ-y/-ia/-ie lightbulb label. You wouldn't say that coal or firewood that yields a great amount of unburnt ash is good.
    I saw some pickled beetroot from Lidl with an A. It's mostly cellulose in sugarwater. The probably calculate that we're supposed to throw the sugar marinade away. Then I would buy a ton of such to become fed.
    The nutrition table is so much better than in America where they have servings, where someone has come up with an idea that you eat exactly one tablespoon of something, and a cup in cooked form of something else.

    I had no idea about the catgegories. I only very rarley buy frozen fries, so I never looked at the scores there, but I have seen pizzas from A to D and wondered how a frozen pizza can have an A. I think I also saw that some full grain flour had a much worse score (D) than some product that was just flour+water+yeast+salt, probably not because the flour was really unhealthy, but because the flour was compared to flour from other grains.

    Thank you so much for the clarifications - from now on I will only eat frozen fries, very healthy, crunchy and refreshing in the Summer😜
    But seriously this very well presented information brings up another subject along the same lines of standardized rating of products, which is the power efficiency index from A to G, which is helping to slow down the climate chance while saving money, if everyone has an eye on that. The very confusing situation here is that the scale has changed in March 2021 to a new rating. So you might be mislead buying e.g. an older A rated fridge that equals todays class D! If you see "A" followed by a number of "+" signs, careful, this is the old rating! The new has only plain letters. This is very confusing if you just look at the ratings shown in various shopping portals.
    This could be just one tiny element if you plan to create a video about reducing your CO2 footprint while saving money. It could cover being aware of the footprint connected to your nutrition, using the latest LED light technology, not run a big Windows server at home, instead a small low power Linux based Raspberry Pi might get the job done, your file server might be a USB SSD connected to your router, you might use a (battery buffered) solar (balcony) power plant, check out the latest and upcoming "effordable" EVs (electric cars), were the German charging infrastructure is probably one of the best these days, and maybe try to fly less if you have a chance to take the train. The ICE goes up to slightly over 300km/h in some places and with the fact that the railwaystation is usually in the center of a city and there is no security, waiting at the gate, taxiing slowly for miles to the runway involved, very slow boarding and exiting of the aircraft, waiting for your baggage for ages, you might be just as fast or faster at your destination than going by plane! If you book way ahead of time it might also be way cheaper and you can bring more stuff along. This is just what comes up in my weird head, I am sure there is much more that can be reduced/optimized.
    I'd be very happy if you would raise awareness to that long term life saving subject. Smoothly yours 😘

  • @outilein
    @outilein Před 21 dnem +1

    This is not exactly true. There are currently only three categories: drinks, oil&fat and everything else. The score is calculated exactly the same way for fries, muesli, bread, ketchup, chips, ice cream etc. The actual problem is that the calculation formula is not strict enough about sugar, salt and fiber. There is a new formula which will be mandatory starting from 2026 which will improve a lot of these issues. Then for example the sugary muesli will not be A anymore and also white bread will get a worse score than wholegrain bread (currently almost all bread is A). Unfortunately until 2026 the producers can choose which formula to use which is of course very confusing to say the least.

    I don't look at them. I look at the ingredients and nutritional values generally located in the back. I have medical condition that forces me to know what I'm eating.
    So this "generalized" Nutri Score system doesn't work for me. The way I look at it is this - Don't be lazy, look at detail what's in it.
