- This review is a German MRE or German miltary (Bundeswehr) 24 hour Combat Ration designed to provide a balanced diet of over 3,000 calories for extended operations. This Type is unique as it is the light weight version that weights a whole pound less than the standard "Ready to Eat" EPA version. The newest versions of these no longer have Travellunch menus but they are every bit as tasty! If you want to see more Subscribe. Cheers!

"I'm gonna do this cappucino and a tea." Proceeds to make coffee and cappucino.
Wow! I didn't even notice HAHA! No wonder that "Tea" tasted strong!
gundog4314 haha! that's awesome
gundog4314 I think it's really funny you couldn't taste the difference 😅
Alphasys was about to say that same thing lol
lol I was like did that tea say coffee on it...then i got to looking and was like wait that isnt tea just by how it looked and yet you took a sip and thought it was still tea...dont they have different tastes? :P
Love the reviews Gundog4314! Thank you for your service and for allowing me to see the kind of rations dad had when he was stationed in Germany. He was stationed from 75-78.
Tribute to Steve: "Nice!"
Love it!
i love steve ! he is how i found gundog. love gundog too! such wholesome kind dudes. you can tell just by the way they speak. :)
Wow, this is really important. I am happy that someone is making such reviews.
Another great review, Gundog! Thanks for taking me along.
Awesome review mate. What a fantastic ration! Great to see they have changed it up a bit and also have the freeze dried menus. Seem to notice the Orifo brand more & more lately also.
Great video. I love the freeze dried stuff, the quality AND quantity is so much better. Kudos for you - you nailed a great word. Tart. Some reviewers understandably have a little difficulty describing a certain taste so they say "sour" (but it's still pleasant). I know what they mean, but your word is perfect.
You're doing very interesting-to-watch videos. Thanks for sharing your experiences, much appreciated! :D Subscribed~
Awesome stuff Gundog! I've got a Typ 7 here and can't wait to review it.
Interesting that some of the items are the same as what you would find in the Slovenian 24hr rations. The coffee whitener and the Pasta Bolognese are exactly the same as my Type A, and I had strawberry instead of lemon cream... it was absolutely amazing!
Nice review gundog. Looks like they replaced the 'panzer waffles' with the sugar cookies and sesame bars. Nice to see the Bundeswehr going to freeze dried rations now. Although I did liked their older ones. Only tried them once, in 86, and that was,an almost... We were qualifying for the Schutzenschnur. (Got silver) and some HQ Lt was going around collecting them up and issuing us MRE's . Our beloved 'Smoke' put a stop to him quickly! The Germans fed us a nice hot delicious meal as,well. The ration packs were considered a gift. I thought it was pretty nice gesture!
I shot gold but someone somewhere along the way lost the paperwork so we ended up with a rope we couldn't wear. Nice souvenir though
Man I'm so jealous you keep getting your hands on these EPAs. They always look really interesting and they are at the top of my list of ones to try.
I even had an ex who was in the bundeswehr that I used to constantly pressure into getting me one, unfortunately it never happened.
I just happen to know the right guy on MREInfo.com! You can find these there and of course Ebay if you search under Einmannpackung. Cheers
Awesome review, love to see new things. Wow that is a large amount of food. Nice to see. Thanks. LOL NICE!!!
I'd like to watch more of your videos right now, but it's 12am and now I'm hungry
Neat review! Liked & subbed.....definitely gonna try and get my hands on one of these just for that Lemon dessert..cheers!
That was quite a nice touch, Cheers!
Steve is infecting everyone with his "Nice" catchphrase.
Another cool video! You just can't beat drinking out of a favourite chipped mug!
I really like EPAs. Not only do they really pack a lot of nutrition, they are also pretty good. The "Linseneintopf mit Wurststückchen" from the II or III is my favourite.
And you should defenitely see the group packs. Lots of neat stuff in there... but a bit too much for one person alone.
awesome review keep them coming
Holy crap! These new ones are waaaayy different, packaging wise. Anyway... hey gundog4314!!! Just so ya know, you rock man! I've watched all of your reviews up until now and I have to compliment how accommodating you are with all of your viewers. I'm not saying I agree with all of them but damn man; you do an awesome job with trying to listen to your subscribers and their compliments and complaints. Anyhow, keep up the great reviews man and I'll keep on watching. Peace!
Rock On Carolyn!
The German meals seem very good every time. Thanks for the posting.
The cookies look like Wedding Cookies to me.
I just finished the last one, quite yummy. Wish I had some more now....frowny face
Great review Gundog! 🇺🇸 Didn't realize that Deutschland put Bucatini pasta in there Bolognese. 🇩🇪 Awesome! 👍 Cheers! 🍺
figure they are easier to rehydrate, being hollow and all.
hot damn happy happy day today we have a new gundog.
Common theme is what you can use to close the bags to rehydrate the food and keep the heat in... the answer is make a few cloths pins from green tree branches available if possible
Great menu, great review sir. German rations are among the best. Plenty of food, portion size, and options. I like the Bundeswehr Logo on even the sugar, sweet. All items looked tasty. Tell Gator and Sherman, Jack and Ace said hello. Peace, John, Magnum.
Wow, what a huge meal. Looks delishious. I would definitly need help eating it. Nice review. Have a good one. 🙂👋🏻🇨🇦
Awesome meal! I would have loved that lemon cream (mousse).
It is a very interesting ration you reviewed today. If I was in the field I would get some those clamps at the supply store that are black and similar to clothespins but hold up and crimp way better.
Big fan you do everything at once. Also takes the guessing out of what combination a soldier would choose for breakfast lunch and dinner.
Are the new ones from Germany hard to find/very expensive??? Are they harder to find or more expensive than other ones in Europe like Norway or Italy etc???
Sorry so many questions just curious.
All of this looks great
A lot of food. Nice video. Thank you.
My tribute to Steve: NICE! Hahaha made my day
As always..NICE! er I mean great video! =)
Great review, looks yummy that is a lot of food:)
7 nation army, I approve
I didn't think I would comment this on a review of this kind but nice music taste
Why do I watch these videos, I'm in bed and hungry af right now
That looked good, kinda makes our U.S. mre look sad
lets get this video out on to a tray...
...
nice.
Nice
Looks great
of course you use your cooking gear when you are in the field, every Lanzer gets his own set...nice vid man, cheers
Hey gundog great videos rations seem apatizing
Gundog...LOVE your reviews brother...but what a tease! Why in the F#@$ can't we buy some of these???
Type in Einmannpackung on Ebay or head over to MREInfo.com and look for Blackdog Bob!
Thanks. Keep em coming!
the muesli had me cracking up! "swiss style"
the little round cookies are called "pfeffernusse" which meas pepper cookie
Nice hiss! Wait.....wrong channel 🙈
every german soldier has a cantine, a "tin pan" or cup, a "tin pot", and fork knife and spoon. they dont need to close the bag, also no plastic spoon. they can cook what the find on their way.
what?
@@dankmemes5717 cats and dogs :D
The lack of self-sealing bags sucked, but seems like the meals themselves are pretty good. And the best thing about freezed dried MRE like these, is they are super light weight to carry.
Beware the power of ' the Steve ' :-)
Trust the Germans for having a cool word for "ration"... Einmannpackung!
Exactly!
there is a group ration pack in three variants - "Gruppenverpflegungspaket Frühstück/Mittag/Abendessen"
one man package but ration is a german word too
Acid Junkie dang it, you beat me to saying "one man package"
Well, ration means Ration in german. Same word same meaning.
I love the battlefield one music in the intro
This song is called “7 Nation Army“ Yes it was in the BF 1 trailer, but this song isn't from EA/Dice.
;)
when I was serving in the Bundeswehr in the early nineties, we were told the rations were good for probably 30 years, although officially the best before date was nowhere near that mark.
There it is!
Nice!!!
Just a odd heads Up Gundog. The grapefruit drink can be an allergy hazard to those with certain medication.
Lecker!!
Just out of curiosity, how did that spaghetti compare to MRE spaghetti? Great review as always Gundog!
Aside from being hollow it compares very similar to any other freeze dried spaghetti I've every had. The ready to eat MRE type usually has quite a bit more sauce though. Cheers!
Thanks man!
Man I've been looking for one of these since I first seen them. That was only about 2 weeks ago.
Get in touch with Bob, that's where I got this one! Cheers Smokey!
Awesome, will do. Thanks Gundog. I just happened to see some on the Internet a couple weeks ago. I didn't even know they existed until then. They look like my kind of ration. They prep of the tin rations is kinda difficult for me right now.
Never saw this kind of EPa in our troop...we only got these old stuff i guess.
Yeah , my country
What would you use in the field to close that pouch? A blousing strap is the first thing that comes to mind.
Ordinarily I would have used small binder clips. We used them to air the socks out we changed on the back of our rucks when it was nice out. Would have worked well with these too.
one of of the exotic's ingredients is "naturliche aromen", translates as 'natural flavours'.
Ha ha, yeah. It's got to contain a lot more than just citric acid
With all those options, it makes me want one myself, I always like to try new things.
A quick read of the comments say to get in touch with Blackdog Bob or look on eBay. What's the usual rundown on the prices?
All that depends where you are because of shipping costs
gundog4314 I mean shipping costs aside what would I be looking at?
wow that ration seems almost luxurious. But I almost feel like they went overboard on the drinks lol
It was a very good ration indeed. I love the fact of the many drink options just for the sake of having something different.
wow german epa looks great
Nice!
One could technically drown in that amount of drinks
I reckon some field kitchen nutmeg or cinnamon would go great in that vanilla drink
Gundog, did you forget about binder clips? I understand many guys carry them in the field to help keep things attached to the Load Bearing Equipment, body armour, etc. Of course they also use them for keeping papers and maps secured.
I have them and in fact use them for my reviews. In the army we used them to air out our socks between changes. Very versatile pieces of kit.....but for this review, I'll be darned if I could find any
You beat me to it. Binder clips are up there with duct tape. Even here in the civvie world.
I know how that goes. I was wanting to do some sketching the other day, but I couldn't find any, and it was too windy to draw without them.
Looking good but didn't see any Hartkeks or Bierwurst :( I'll post a pick on FB of the Mousse Stracciatella I got in #8
The Hartkeks probably took to much room, also there is no tinned full grain Roggenvollkornbrot, those with the tinned sausage are a meal to themselves. Germans are rather particular about their bread.
Hey Gundog, is there anyway we can get those content sheets in a PDF form?
Not picking on you, but how many of the reviewers of military rations have actually have military backgrounds? Love your reviews.
I don't really know. I do know both Gschultz and I were in the Army. I'm sure a few of the others were too.
Huh this is another ration where i can honestly say . Yep i'd eat and enjoy everything in there . thats pretty rare there is normally one or two things i'm picky about.
Man the central/eastern europeans do really know how to pack a 24hr ration. Giving the French/Italians a run for their money.
IF you compared this to 3x US MRE you'd prob pick this, I can just see the different mains don't have that "different main, same sauce" taste that US ones often have.
I'd be interested to know if any of the energy drinks are caffeinated as well: or how strong the kaffee is. I imagine wanting 400-600mg of caffeine/day depending on distance of patrol etc.
Love the tribute to Steve! Lol
I always like these European rations to link to friends in Europe and hear what they think of them compared to me.
I do the same with my peers in the ration community. Cheers Sera!
The stirring : if I'm not mixing things up German soldiers have their Besteckset containing fork, knife and spoon :) and the exotic English would probably be tropical
+gundog4314 Yes, I do wonder why you have three EPA's and how do I get my own...LOL!!!! Love the vids!
Well one was an empty box from a previous review. I got mine from Blackdog Bob on mreinfo.com
+gundog4314 Thanks and keep up the great reviews!

Steve has left his mark
Right on!
I would like to know, when you’re in the field I’m sure the soldiers wouldn’t carry measuring cups with them. How do they know how much water they need to put in????
Usually there is a fill line or some such but more often it's trial and error. After awhile you know just how much by feel or sight like many experienced cooks.
What's a good source for those Travellunch entrees? They look good but nuthin on ebay.
They may have been "bought out" or purchased by another company by now. They were pretty rare to find in the states and to get them shipped from Germany was like 30 bucks each...Hello Mountain House!
gundog4314 Thanks!
Where do you find these because i want some to ps I subscribed 😉
You can find them if you search for "Einmannpackung" but I got his one from my buddy Blackdog Bob from MREInfo.com
We always had rum with hot water with us to drink. Recipe: rum must, water can, sugar as desired
I'm not sure but isn't it more like "use or eat until" date on the package?
I can´t believe it! Finally a German ration worth eating (as I stated before - I didn´t like the old pre 90s ones.
Wow!
Only one small critic on this concept of rations - I would have gone for a type with a flameless ration heater. But again, I don´t want to much at once. That seems to be great!
What surprised me is that there wasn´t any resealable zips on the mains. As far as I remember the Travellunch meals are resealable. The colour of the Nasi Goreng seemed a bit strange. Again, as far as I remember mine was a bit darker.
The Nasi Goreng might as well have been chicken and rice in chicken stock. It was the only let down of the entire ration. Cheers!
In fact I had one of those Travellunch Nasi Gorengs still at home and had it for lunch today
Mine was way darker than yours and very spicy. And it was NOT resealable too (that came as a surprise!)
That's a lot of food. Should fill a soldier tummy alright.
Regarding the Exotic drink, most of those ingredients are added vitamins. Apart from the acidic components, there's just "natural flavor" added. It doesn't seem to say what it should taste like anywhere.
I was able to see all that too...wondered what "natural flavor" it was HAHA. These EU drinks are so superior to the US rations artificial/imitation garbage
That sesame bar looks like one of those Hartz pressed birdseed bars for parakeets.
Gwen Patton sesame seed honey treats, candies, cookies are pretty much all the same and I've loved them my whole life, my grandfather always had them on hand.
26:47 *It looks like LEGO to eat, BUILD YOUR OWN MEAL ;)*
Where is type 7 review can't seem to find it.
Seems like it could be the Cold Weather version of an EPA. I noticed the little wursts were missing, as well as the hartkeks, and it would make sense that they would be from a meal intended to be eaten in extreme cold. Edit: Just looked and they seem to be missing from all of the new meals. Not sure I agree with that. They were one of the best parts of the old ones.
Michael Brown ne epa ohne panzerplatten... Ich bin schockiert
I too missed the brown bread and spreads. Has me curios about cracking into the other one pretty soon to see what's in it.
Seems almost...wrong for them NOT to be in there. Let us know when you post the video of the other one, Gundog. #7 is I think one of the normal meals.
did I just zone out and miss the rice tasting? I don't recall seeing it.
Niiiicccce !
GUNDOG, WHY NO CLOSED CAPTIONS?
Honest answer is I'm not bright enough to figure that out. Even with yt tutorials I still can't seem to get it to work.
I would have deserted if they'd insulted me with serving bird food (vulgo: Muesli) back in the day. We had tank cookies (Panzerkekse) and roast beef back in the early 90s Bundeswehr EPA's
He is eating breakfast, lunch and dinner, and snacks (24hr.) at once. LOL
Actually he is "showing" all that at once in a single segment and was eaten over the next couple of days. Cheers
I'd like to have one!
Where do i buy one of those.. would be really great for backpacking
Hi, i found just one offer ... typ 12 is out sorry www.ebay.de/itm/BRANDNEU-ORIGINAL-BW-BUNDESWEHR-EPA-NEUESTE-GENERATION-EINMANNPACKUNG-TYP-1-12-/262546335736?clk_rvr_id=1199973575506&rmvSB=true
do they ship to USA?
...he asks the german, ... honestly, i have no clue - i dont buy on ebay
Ask them directly: militariaworld.de@web.de (if you haven't, already).
thank You for the informative video. But.... I can almost bet that the freeze dried option isn't a hit among the carnivores who would rather have the past rations with real / fresh meat protein in them. They must have made the change for longevity sake.
The normal (old) packages are also available. This is only the freeze-dried version for special tasks as it is smaller and lighter. It's better transportable for soldiers.
Did you ever have one of the rare German Epa which are kosher or halal? For our other believers?
Where could someone buy some German MREs?
