I do a study on deer here in the uk ! I have trail cameras out over looking deer wallows ! And I get goshawks all the time bathing & drinking from the wallows ! I even got a magical footage of a goshawk drowning a squirrel in the wallow !! So ya little pools of water really attracts the birds in the wild 👍 great channel as always 👍

Hi Ben, due to a surgery last September I got a very late start on trapping. I trapped two hags but never got a chance at a juvenile. I am taking a week off for the opening of trapping season August 21 (in Massachusetts) and hope for an early season red tail. I hope to be successful early on so I have more training time with my (hopefully) first bird! You've been an incredible help to me, and very inspirational! I'll let you know how I do.

Our Harris female doesn't like the spray bottle or the hose, even on days that are too hot for us! But during a rain storm, no matter how hard it's coming down, she'll sit on the one perch that isn't covered by roof or tree, spread her wings and tail wide and have a refreshing shower. She loves this! But the artificial shower - nope. 😅 We spray her anyway when it's really too hot, and she grumbles at us but doesn't hold a grudge.

I’m getting my first apartment soon! Haha starting small with a finch or parakeet. Can’t build a proper mew yet. So I’m going to volunteer at an Audubon. I hope to have an apprenticeship by 30 years old.

I know weight management is extremely important for raptor keep.

Your passion is clear to me when the topic of misting raptors with a spray bottle comes up. I think as a young passage red tailed caregiver it might be an essential. How would you think the ancient falconers gave water to their newly trapped birds?

The body of an adult human is not 90% water, but 70%.

Birds. Can. move. One of the challenges the wild male Cooper's hawks who have been our resident female's mate over the years have faced is that SHE WILL NOT SIT on the nest in inclement weather. Too hot? Gone. Raining? Gone. Snowing? Gone. The males have been forced to sit on the nest through terrible thunder storms and blizzards until she deigns to return. She's gone for multiple days, sometimes.
Birds have preferences, dare I say, personalities. I'm sure it's very important to monitor and learn a captive bird's preferences as well as needs when they can't address them, themselves.
(Ironically, she loves to absolutely drench herself in our 2 gallon bird bath in the summer. Every single feather will be wet. Accipiters do love their bath time.)

Some birds will simply not drink at all even during heat waves. Then those ''falconers'' urges to the veterinarian shouting and blaming WNV disease LOL it is pathetic. Anyway you're right to say wet the food.
