    Quad Remesher is pretty pricey, but it does an awesome job of remeshing complex geometry and you don't have to leave Blender.

    • @Raska_chan
      @Raska_chan Pƙed rokem +5

      you still do, especially if that object needs to be deformed and animated. a lot of the time quad remesher alone can not give you something usable for these porpuse, it also have problems with some details in the geometry.
      It is still very neat and useful but there's almost always need to make sure and modify the geometry (i've been using it for a year and a half now).

    • @chomsky72
      @chomsky72 Pƙed rokem +3

      @@Raska_chan Fair enough. I guess I just use it for concept art modeling. I really don't do animation. For that the addon is great. Simplify mesh for easier UV.

      @SimFiftyFifty Pƙed rokem +3

      @@MetalGearMk3 This is extremely true i some time spent so much time trying to fix these that it would have been faster to go for manual retopology. But it's very effective and time saving when it works.

    • @Simon2d3d
      @Simon2d3d Pƙed rokem +1

      Ofc, but when I read this I identify in terms on not needing a Zbrush licence just to do auto remeshing. This technique is particularly useful by itself for hard surface work. And of course if you have a character, you still need a basic idea of retopology. But what OP says os true, you don't need to leave Blender. You can use this where it works and do manual retopology within Blender too.

      @@Chocofur I was one of your Twitter followers who saw the post. Your question was "is this common knowledge already?" I thought you meant some kind of technique or workflow. Not just "buy quadremesher and click the button." I'm a beginner in 3D modelling, and I was looking forward to a video that would unlock a technique for turning bad topo into good topo. But the 'technique' is merely an addon that does the hard part for you. I guess I'm just a bit disappointed, but that's my own fault for making an assumption about what your intentions were. If you had asked if we wanted a video on quadremesher, I would not have been so excited.
      Despite my disspointment, I'd like to say thank you anyway. I appreciate that you're creating educational content and helping other artists grow their skills.

    • @znefas
      @znefas Pƙed rokem +5

      @@Gichanasa except the round wheel is made of gold or silver, for it to be so expensive.
      "it's not that expensive" is always false when you're just starting out with Blender and don't have the funds for anything. If you have the funds for add-ons, why use Blender, which is free but extremely complex, when there's simpler paid options? Screw paid add-ons.
      Edit to clarify: I appreciate the efforts that these guys put in plugins, but I'd much rather see the business model of those plugins be closer to paying for development of the plug-in, for a final free release, a sort of fundraiser per version kind of thing. That way those which want the next big features and those which want to support the developer can band together to cover the development costs, and those which can't afford said plugins can use them without too much trouble.

      In the auto retopo field this is a great tool. But I always prefer to manually retopo to avoid spirals. Spiral edge loops are a nightmare to unwrap (yes, you can also auto unwrap but your UV shells will not be optimized in the UV space and it's also bad for texturing with a chaotic mesh & UV. I prefer to choose manually where I put my loops thinking of my UVs.
      This tool can greatly work for retopo boolean meshes. But on organic models you can have spirals.

      @@Chocofur it is not, you can mark creases or use polygroups in zbrush to achieve something similar but I find for hard surface it's a better interface in blender. I found a weakness in this addon. It is trash for cleaning up or remeshing hollow meshes with open holes. For example I made a complex building shape with window holes and no roof. It was basically the outer-skin of the building. My polygons are ok but I relied on tri's for some things and wondered if this addon might do a better job. It basically closed up the window holes and gave me some pretty messy polyflow around parts of the buildings details. So if you have open holes and low poly-counts this addon fails. Otherwise if you have a closed-hole boolean mess of a mesh, this thing seems to clean it right up and offer some pretty nice edgeloops too!

      I work in kids support center and we teach blender since 2.7 ...
      Since maybe 2 years we see more and more tools specially for modelling are behind the paywall..
      the kids came up with tutorials after the beginner course they are find on the Internet but these are heavy related to cool tools no question but behind paywalls..
      we have not the admin control over the PC & Laptops Software management here in the Center...So buying some Tool and copy over all PC is not possible even I would pay for it and do it buy my self and paying for all PC is not an option too for Center.....
      ...the kids selfs are often not privilleged with money often it s the bus that cost more then they have to come to the Center..
      So the paywall is hard for these kids...Kids are heavy interest in 3d modeling ...
      but this is how blender now works..
      free yes but a lot of features only for money and privileged people...

      @@sebbosebbo9794 I get your point with installing the software across multiple workstations in a closed environment, I really do. And I totally get it with kids paying for the software, although 30-50 USD is a price of a video game nowadays (I'm sure the author of the addon would help you out with the price if you reach out to him privately).
      btw this is I think the only paid Blender addon me and my team use to get things done. The only alternative I know to do what the addon does, is tedious hand remodeling of an entire 3D mesh (which I don't think anyone would like to watch or make tutorial about it).
      I still think Blender is one of the very few hobbies that costs almost no money to play around with, and it can lead to a full time job later.
      Peace man and good luck with the kids, you're doing Lord's work!

      I guess it depends on what you need it for ,we did quite a lot of modeling in our studio recently using it and it was perfect (hence the idea for the video). but it's not a single click solution for CAD file retopology for example, you still need to do quite a lot of stuff manually.

      The addon does do a lot to help out with how much time it saves you but most addons that are near 100 dollars either have a ton of features or a ton of assets for building things though this addon just does one thing very well. I would like QuadRemesher to work at least 98% for all cases in hardsurface modeling, with mixed flat and curved surfaces. Maybe in a few months...with the help of AI.
    And that it would work perfectly even with hardsurface meshes with low polygon count and completely MESSY and WRONG, from the point of view of correct topology. Of course, it should churn out very low polygon-count models...if I want, and I want that almost always.
    That is, I want to be able to afford to model for 3 minutes create tris and ngons while modeling; then I stop and do remesher; then I continue to mess up my mesh and so on until I complete a clean model made only of quads...but without wasting HOURS and days of my life only for perfectly stitching holes in a sphere.
