    Thank you! I needed to put the panel back on, and was having a hard time, watching this video I realized that the trick was to remove the side strips first. Amazing how these videos can continue gifting years after they are recorded.

    A couple of tips that would reduce the need for a 2nd snake pull (those who install network cabling through conduit - this should sound very familiar):
    1. Pull both wires at the same time.
    2. Pull some sort of pull string with the first wire. Tie the string to the 2nd wire and pull it back through.
    I would use the pull string anyway in case you need to get back in there in the future. Leave 4-6" of it on either side, tied off. That way, future projects such as dual-channel dash cams or other wiring that uses the same route become MUCH easier w/o needing to pull grommets or boots again.

      Fellow network engineer here. Is there a particular reason he only does it one at time? I mean...you can get two of those wires through with a snake very easily.
      Am I missing something here?

    Thanks for the video instructions. I just put mine in today and everything went pretty smooth. I would actually recommend installing the inner harness first because when you snake the cables down, you will save yourself a step. Once you get the inner cables down to the outer lights, the snake is already in there and ready to have the uter cable connected to pull it back through. I know it isn't much, but any time saved is a good thing :)

    Why does all the plastic trim need to be re-installed prior to coding? I'd want to verify it's working before I put it all back in place in the event that I had to go back in and check any of the wiring.

    @Deutsche Auto Part, Thanks for the video Paul , I put mine in today and this video made the process so much easier. I took the bottom rubber boot clips out instead of the top , I used trim tools and try not to break the clips, unfortunately, I still manage to break them.
    The boot is very loose now, I am worrying that the water will get inside. Am I worrying too much.

    • @Deutscheautoparts
      @Deutscheautoparts  Před 8 lety

      First thanks for the purchase. We appreciate it very much. In regards to the boot. If you are worried we would suggest using clear silicon. This should secure it in place and seal it.

  • @blakemoser1682
    @blakemoser1682 Před 8 lety +1

    I ended up breaking both clips also. In Hindsight there is no reason to actually remove the clips if you are using a wire snake. DAP should really revise their install instructions. Replacing the rubber grommets looks to be a huge undertaking from what I can see.

  • @PeterBrooks_uk
    @PeterBrooks_uk Před 7 lety

    Thanks for an excellent video showing the dismantle of the tailgate. I've got a side arch to replace on my Golf but the clips seem a lot harder to pull off than in your video. I can only assume it's a bit too cold at the moment.
    What's the best solution? Heating them up slightly with a heat gun?
    Thanks

    Dumb luck, I broke the clip on the rubber boot - you know the part in the video where he uses the trim tool and says "be careful". I put it back and it holds, but is very loose. Don't think I can replace since wires run through it. Thoughts on what to do???

    • @Deutscheautoparts
      @Deutscheautoparts  Před 8 lety

      You can try to use clear silicone to seal in place and prevent water from coming in. Replacing would require removing the trunk hatch wires to run them through the new boot.

    Awesome video. Giving this a try tonight. Quick question for you: Is there anyway that something behind those pillars would affect my car's radio? After I got my windows tinted, my radio will lose signal when i put my car in reverse... It happens even before the reverse camera comes out, I thought maybe it was something with that. I ask because I watched them remove the pillars to get the tint in the edges. Thanks!

    I know you may not be supporting comments on this video anymore but in case: I installed everything and it all seemed to go perfect except the tail lights 100% do not come on with my headlights. Amber turn works, braking works, hazards, but no tail lights when the headlights are on. (I got pulled over immediately lol I didn't realize) -- I've coded with odb11, I've double triple checked the wiring with the harness. Everything works without the harness (if I set the odb back to standard) so I can drive for now but the harness for amber doesn't seem to be working fully (after coding and of course before) -- furthermore I've manually checked that the "app" coded it right by checking through VCDS and still nothing. Is this an issue you've ever seen?

      +Colin Geraghty You should consider contacting your dealer to discuss this but generally dealers would not be the ones to help. You should find a local VW and Audi specialist. We include the coding info with our harness. Take a look here for that.

      +rzorNvme they have coding instructions here: shopdap.com/dap-mk7-led-taillight-coding/ but you need to have a VCDS cable which can be purchased here: store.ross-tech.com/shop/cat/VCDS.html and also the appropriate software from here www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/current.php
      if that sounds to complicated for you, just go to a VW/Audi specialist shop and ask them to do it for you.

      In order to code, you need to have VAGCOM software, which can be really expensive. Your best bet is to go on Craigslist and find somebody that does coding. There's a guy by me that will do all the coding you can possibly want for $20.
