- YO! I hadn't played for awhile again cuz of doing some stuff this month but got this down the last 2 days. I actually didn't know about this album Frozen in Time from 2005 for some reason until a couple months ago and just totally liked this video and the tone and that damn heavy Obituary GROOVE! You can't help but headbang when he starts jogging on those bass pedals man!

Helm man, thank you! I worked hard on the blend again, this one has loud guitar and I wanted to not loose much vocals or that punch and tone from the bass and drums.
I thought about making a vid about the audio mixing and video editing on this one that would be easiest to show anyone?
I did record it twice but actually only used the 2nd single take in the audio split to 2 channels, one barely off time from the other and hard panned with slightly different EQ's again!

Question: when you record, do you track your guitars or one guitar, as mono? Or do you double track and pan left and right? Or something totally different?
BOTH! Depends on the song. For awhile I was always dual tracking and hard panning but then I learned this trick for my leads that works great for rhythms that don't necessarily require 2 guitars or maybe super fast or intricate and kind of turns too noisy with so many guitars. Like this one, I recorded it twice in a row, in mono, the 2 takes you see in the vid but I decided the 2nd time was a little tighter and this song didn't really have 2 seperate guitar parts and I wanted it as tight and non-farting out on the heavy chugs as possible so I deleted the 1st and took just the 2nd take audio and copy/pasted it into another line in the DAW, panned each HARD, then one is just barely a tick behind the other, the left has barely a little post reverb added and a broader EQ curve with the peak in the middle and the right has a tighter EQ curve with the peak slightly to the right toward the highs. Then I just had to snip the volume from the left in the appropriate spots and I did experiment allowing a little bleed through to the left during those pause breaks but decided to go full off like the album. So with this method it does still sound like it could be 2 takes, but doesn't have to be played exact twice and there's no issues with stereo cancellation from competing tones sharing the same speaker. I've been mainly doing this lately except some are still 2 takes, like Hemlock Karmageddon was 2 tracks L/R and didn't really need to be and Crooked Cross looks like 2 tracks but really I just punched in the small harmony parts for the right side individually.
