Hello SB Moto ! Many many thanks for your video on the removal of the Right-Hand side OEM Brembo brake caliper on the Yamaha T7. I intend to do the same modification as it appears to me to be a simple modification using the standard / OEM Brembo front brake master cylinder. You did mention in one of your earlier replies to an interested subscriber...."The OEM Master cylinder may not be perfectly matched to the single caliper, but its good enough for me". What did you mean by that SB Moto ??? Is the standard / OEM Brembo front brake master cylinder too powerful for the single caliper ....or is it too weak. What effect does it have for riding on the street with light dirt riding??? I don't carry passengers or load my Yamaha T7 with stuff when I ride. Looking forward to hearing back from you, gerhard (Eltham / Australia).
The stock master cylinder is designed to move both calipers, so when you go to a single caliper, you get a slightly "wooden" feel to the lever. I was still comfortable with it, though I have tossed on a yz/wr master cylinder. It's free to try out with the stock master cylinder, wo give it a try. Worst case is you're flushing some brake fluid. 🤘🤘👍👍
Hi there SB Moto....and many many thanks for your prompt reply....it's greatly appreciated. You said that removing the right-hand side caliper and keeping the OEM Brembo master cylinder results in a "wooden" feel. SB Moto....By a "wooden" feel, do you mean a really firm feel with the front brake lever when it is being depressed for braking? Also, do you feel that the single front Brembo caliper with the OEM rotor pulls the bike up effectively on the road? If it works well on the road, I would imagine that it performs well in the dirt. I really want to keep the standard / OEM Brembo master cylinder, caliper and disc rotor on the left-hand side on the bike. looking forward to hearing from you, gerhard (Eltham Australia)
Yeah, by wooden feel I mean that it took more effort to do a hard lock on the front wheel. This was more noticeable on the street, but in my opinion didn't require THAT much more effort. The feel of the OEM master with the single brake caliper was not noticeable or any issue when riding dirt. I almost prefer it to a degree. It sounds odd, but it was almost easier to modulate and scrub just a little bit of speed. You can see the brake in this configuration being used in a couple of my videos: czcams.com/video/IrIHYZH-NAU/video.html and czcams.com/video/kyOepk3rUd0/video.html
I'm loving it. I've added a YZ\WR front master cylinder (along with removing all my ABS), but had no issues with the OEM master on the single brake caliper. It's a great way to test the waters on single front caliper. You'll find the front end is MUCH more lively. That alone makes it so worth it.
I still have the abs unit on the bike, so no dongle. The minor weight wasn't worth the money. Every once in awhile I get the abs light on, then it turns off. Other than that, no problems at all
I haven't yet. I'm planning to get a YZ\WR master on there when I bypass the ABS system. Part of my winter projects for the T7. Fixing Suspension & Brakes (rear, and bypass ABS) are priority #1 🤘
@@SBMoto we have similar goals and treat this big girl like a proper dirtbike! I’ve got a few quick videos of some technical terrain in North Ga posted. I plan on a full ABS delete and braided lines. Looking into 48mm KYB suspension and eventually some proper enduro width wheels
I'd like to just go and get the full Boano kit, but dropping ~3500$ is a bit steep, especially when I have access to CNC\mills\Lathes to make my own. I've seen some folks do both WP48mm an KYB 48mm conversions, as well as some other stuff. I just got everything pulled off the bike, so now I can dig in.
@@SBMoto I am so jealous! I’d love to do a Custom WP or KYB setup. I revalved and added midspeed shim stack and it’s pretty decent but a buddy has the full Ohlins 48mm conversion and life hasn’t been the same since I rode that.
Hello there SB Moto, many many thanks for your great help ! It's greatly appreciated. I will give your recommendations a try and see how I go. Your contributions to this UTube site make for very interesting reading. gerhard (eltham , australia)
I'm quite happy with it. I have also now pulled all the abs from my bike and swapped in Yamaha WR master cylinders. With the front, not totally needed, but it is more compact and is a bit less wooden feeling. In the dirt the stock unit with single caliper feels just fine for me.
Bingo. Initial ride with single front brake setup is such a massive improvement that I wish I'd done it sooner. The front end of the bike actually feels lively now. The OEM Master cylinder may not be perfectly matched to the single caliper, but its good enough for me. Looking forward to testing this setup in the dirt. 🤘

How are you liking this single diwc brake set up? I do a lot of offroad and thinking I'm going to do it to save a few lbs.

Awesome I will be trying this in the next few days, thanks!
Cheers for the video, thinking of ditching the whole Abs unit on mine. Did you use a dongle to stop error codes on the dash? Cheers

Have you tried a different master cylinder yet? I’d like to do this and possibly go to a bigger rotor and something like a YZ master cylinder.

Hope it works well for you. If not, its plenty easy to go back to stock 🤘🤘🤘
Any updates to this and how it worked out? Many thanks!

Why? To save weight?

Did you check how many weight did you save?
I believe it's listed online somewhere, but it's around 4-5#.
