I have just started oil pastels. I’m a graphite artist. I’m struggling with blending techniques. I’ve tried just about every technique I could find but still struggle. I’m not sure if it’s the paper, the pastels, or a combination of both. Do you have any suggestions or advice for this? So far my finger works best, but this causes my finger to burn and also isn’t good for smaller areas. So I’m getting desperate!!
Blending oil pastels with an earbud can provide precision, and using your fingers afterward can further blend and create a smoother effect. Use thick paper or you can try watercolor paper.
@@ArtDiarium thank you! I just ordered watercolor paper yesterday to see if it would work better- I’m glad to see your response! So far the best luck I’ve had is my Bristol paper, and I have pastelmat, but believe it or not that hasn’t worked as well as I thought with the oil pastels. I also ordered Mungyo Gallery soft pastels with the Doms I already have. I haven’t had much luck with the Faber Castell oil pastels so I’m trying what artists use in their tutorials. Thank you for responding, it is greatly appreciated 😊
