  • How to easily convert from an AC CDI to a DC CDI on a 150cc carter talon GY6 Buggy. These buggies come with an AC cdi which is powered by a coil in the stator. If the coil fails it's easier to convert to a DC CDI than to replace the stator.

I've got an 18.5 B&S mower motor , the pressure release valve on the Camshaft has broken twice in two years, do you think this is a defect or just my bad luck? Thank you!

Does this make it so you have a rev limiter?

Hey thanks, great tutorial. Do you notice any change in power, as far as spark? Is there a difference in the performance wether AC or DC? Mike from CF

I havent seen any change except it was easier to start with the DC CDI.

Hey Pfun - So I have a problem with my AC Stator - The AC charge coil on the stator has gone bad (shows OL on MM on Ohms). So the wiring that AC Charge coil is bad - The poles on the stator wires Ohm out good. So they are good to go.
I wanted to rewire it to a DC CDI. Knowing what you just said where you technically do not need to have a AC Charge signal. Can I just keep my stator and swap to DC CDI using the 12 v constant DC coming from the battery? I.e. Change the AC Power coming from the Stator into 12V DC from the battery/relay (as you have it) using a DC CDI?
I think it can be done.. but checking to see if I am on the right track?
Also if I get a DC CDI. I need to have a DC rectifier as well? It is likely I will but trying to find out if you used your old rectifier.

You can power a DC cdi from 12v from the battery and ignore the cdi power from the stator. Rectifiers are either half wave or full wave. As long as it can keep the battery charged either will work.

I've got that same motor but I'm not getting any spark I've changed the cdi an stator still no spark

@jesymcquiston8204 so you need to have a better ground connection? I'm having the same issue. New stator and cdi and I'm going to try and convert to DC cdi.
