What I know is that Lia is on hiatus that is why Itzy members went from 5 to 4. Lia even attended one of the recent concerts of Itzy and there were crying moments.

I guess she's pregnant. On hiatus is the most common excuse used by Pregnant female idols in the Asian entertainment industry. - It's like they suddenly disappeared. In 2024, when everyone has a smartphone, it is almost impossible to completely disappear.- Just saying.

The amount of hate and animosity the group and she had was terrible, several people speaking ill of her dance, and that she was a member who was useless to the group, apart from hate nothing other members for other reasons and the group in general, it was very very difficult, she needed time. That was the reason, are you going to tell me that when Jeong and Mina from Twice went on hiatus it was pregnancy? IT WAS MENTAL HEALTH TOO! It may be that some go on hiatus for this reason, but if you can't clearly see what the problem and reason for Lia leaving was, you simply didn't follow all the hate every day we saw in the fandom at the time.

I’m a blink and the comments I’ve seen on some of their videos or videos where they are reading comments and they are mean. I just don’t understand. I don’t get why people feel the need to be mean. If you don’t like someone or something like move on. I literally had someone hate on this video. Like just move on if you don’t like something instead of spreading negativity. I do hope she returns and over comes all of the haters. Someone also said she was one of the main singers so hearing some of that surprises me.

I had to comment this text because someone had said that lia left due to pregnancy (?) stupid thing, but the person deleted the comment, I can't understand this hate that this industry has, it's very sick. chaeryeong had hate before debut and at the beginning of it because they said she was ugly, there is even a video of her crying and talking about it, but it passed after a while and there were never any more bad comments about them, on such a large scale you know? but when they released sneakers in 2022..... it was terrible, people didn't like the concept of that song and a absurd hate started against them, affecting the whole group. then they started to throw a lot of hate at yuna the youngest, calling her " pick me girl " and several bad things, it was VERY bad for her, yuna changed after that time. she's not the same as she used to be until today. and when yuna's hate started to calm down, lia's hate started, with the things I said up there... then a few months later lia went on hiatus, which was last year, and well she's still there, but I hope she comes back soon... she is one of my biases, I miss her a lot. and I saw the hate comment on your video, don't mind it okay? This is what cake means. If you think your life is a piece of cake (easy) then it will be easy eventhough it is so hard. If you believe the fear inside you is your friend, then it will be your friend and you will not be scared. If the green screen is broken, but you perform as nothing wrong, you r not fucked up and it is good performance.

They are very underrated,
ITZY is one of the most talented groups in Kpop, each member also has a good personality and MIDZY is one of the most peaceful fandoms in Kpop.
I think they are very cool girls, they grew up naturally without much gimmicks from the agency, many even said that JYP managed them badly, but I think they were just given a different path than the typical commercial group.
ITZY is the type of group that I would definitely introduce to my little sister

Itzy are NOT underrated, they're UNDERLOOKED. They have the fame and the name, they have achievements and are still in kpop culture, but they're late hits aren't reflecting that due to the hate trains of 2023. I really do hope they become popular again

I think the main thing you need to know about ITZY is that the majority of their songs especially the title tracks are focused on self empowerment. Mafia might be the one that really doesn't fit in with that as much but its still a great song. The other thing you need to know about ITZY is they are performance queens on stage but goof balls in all the variety and behind the scenes content, utter chaos in the most fun ways.

ITZY is such a wonderful group! Very well known for their dance performance, rap parts, and stage presence, they are very underrated in the vocal area even though they are singing 95% of their stage performances live ! All of them can dance very well and they are often defined as the best dance group in the 4th Gen (and I would personally say of all time but it's my opinion)
Yeji is the Leader and Unni - Yeji (the one you are drawn to) and Hyunjin from SKZ are called the Hwang Siblings because of the similarities of their face and they are both named Hwang.
Lia the Main Vocalist - she is currently on hiatus but I am sure she will come back soon to make her vocals shine even more than before
Ryujin the Main Rapper - the definition of the bad girl image => so charismatic OMG
Chaeryeong the Main Dancer - simply the definition of being born to dance and sing at the same time
Yuna is the Maknae - stunning visuals and overflowing confidence! What else?
Imo the cake song is saying that life is a piece of cake and we don't care if we are under fire or falling from a high height, ITZY will also be unbothered, keep going whatever they feel like, and enjoy life like we would enjoy a piece of cake.
Lyrics from Itzy songs have always deep meaning about self-confidence, not caring about what others say, and enjoying life the most.
For the guide, I personally prefer "A guide to Itzy: 2022 edition" but any guide would be perfect.

Dalla dalla is theyr debut song. They have very powerfull dancebreaks and theyr choreo is hard on some of the songs. Itzy deserves more than what they get.

In the Cake video the members are constantly having people take shots at them while they’re just trying to do their thing, (Performances, concerts, music videos) but they keep going. The video is basically saying do what makes you happy and if you ignore the hate people throw your way, it doesn’t really matter. At least that’s what I got.

All the ITZY members were on Girls team 2 in episode one of Stray kids survival show, EXCEPT for Lia, she had only just joined JYPE a few months before that filmed and did not participate in that trainee showcase. Yeji, Ryujin, Chaeryeong and Yuna were all in the Stray kids show. Fun fact, had the girls team won at that time, ITZY would be straykids and stray kids would be ITZY ;)

Sounds like you already know several key points of their origin story. Adding to what you’ve already brought up…
* Yeji, Ryujin, and Chaeryeong were part of JYPE’s first organized female dance team, so yes, seems like they built their concept largely around strong dancers
* To ramp up awareness for future members, several were sent to participate on other shows. Yeji was a contestant on The Fan, Ryujin dominated 1st place on YG’s ill-fated Mixnine, and (strongly rumored central member but not part of the final line-up) Jeon Somi had been doing a bunch of variety shows after wrapping up as the 1st place winner of Produce 101 and being the center of project girl group I.O.I.
* (And prior to those shows, Chaeryeong and her sister Chaeyeon (later a member of Produce 48’s resulting group, IZ*ONE) were contestants on K-Pop Star as children. Then those two and Somi were contestants on Sixteen, the competition that formed Twice.)
* Lia was brought on as the Main Vocal, to fill in that gap from the Dance Team members.
* At some point, for whatever reason, Somi left JYPE to go free agent, ultimately signing with YG subsidiary TheBlackLabel. So maknae Yuna filled that vacant spot, making the final line-up.
WOW. Thats a lot. I didn't realize all of that. Im so jealous of all the knowledge you have! Chaeryeong was on sixteen?! woah. I guess I thought there was more of a time gap between the groups than what there really is. So if Yeji was a contestant somewhere else was she not a JYP trainee at that time? I was always under the impression that if you were a trainee you couldn't par take in other competitions?
Typically groups are put out halfway through the previous group's contract, so that a company always has a girl group or boy group going if the previous one disbands. Twice went a little long without a junior group.
Trainees going on other competition shows has become pretty common as a promotional tool. The general idea for these Produce shows (and their various follow-ups) resulting in short-term contracts is that after the Produce group is over, the members go back to their respective companies and are walking, talking...singing...dancing...billboards for whatever group get formed around them. Lesserafim and Ive are two current prime examples of this method at work.
There have even been some instances where members of existing, currently active groups join these competition programs. However, as you can guess, that typically only happens if their current group isn't already busy/popular, and their having to balance time between their original and project groups can wind up being a hindrance to original-group activities while the project group is active. The hope is that the original group can "tread water" while the one member gains popularity, then they can stage a big comeback in the more traditional, non-k-pop parlance.

Hi Serenity! ITZY is touring the US in June! I highly recommend going bc their live performances never disappoints! They were built to be a performance-focused group. I’ve seen them live 8x already and the energy in the venue each time is electric! ITZY’s stage presence and charisma is second to none!
I literally looked at the prices of the tickets last night! I’m trying to go see stray kids and vcha at lollapalooza in August so idk think I could swing both. 😩
Ryujin, Yeji, and Chaeryoung were trainees at the time and were in that Stray Kids survival video, back when JYP was deciding on either the boys or girls teams to debut. Chaeryoung was also in Sixteen and had a chance to become part of Twice, though she was very young then.
They are very known for their dance as you picked up on, but they are vocal solid as well. They do dance practices while singing live, usually names "stage practices". Good luck on your Itzy journey, can't wait til you get to NMIXX the newest group.

Cake is basically about not letting things get to you eat it up like a piece of Cake and make it easy peasy. If you notice many crazy things are happening to them but they try their best to go on. Also many show references to shows or memes and such mostly Korean though but for example Squid Games is one. Btw Itzy have many of these songs in english also, so check those out before a lyrics video.

I got into Kpop from Blackpink, but Itzy secured my love of Kpop. Their performances are absolutely top tier, probably the best dancers/choreography of their generation. Visuals on point! Video editing is stellar. Their latest comeback was epic!

Black pink was the first girl group I knew! I love and adore them. I could tell how talented itzy was. Especially since they have dance breaks in most of their songs. Their visuals are stellar. And I just generally love the sounds of their songs and the meaning behind the group itself.

Though we now have the tradition of Twice doing an English-language single alongside their Korean title tracks, at the time A2K was filming, Itzy was already re-doing a bunch of their title tracks as English versions, making them prime candidates for the curated selection of audition songs. Now why everyone seemed to just be doing Dalla Dalla instead of others is a whole other question.
I might have mentioned it in response to your A2K reactions, but I was hoping to see more Wonder Girls songs on the show, since they had a whole bunch of English version and English-first songs during JYP’s very early “American invasion” in the aughts. (If you’ve encountered the name Sunmi in your k-pop travels, she was originally from that group.)

BACKSTORY/PRE-DEBUT ACTIVITIES
1. YEJI (Leader, Main Dancer): Yeji auditioned at JYP. She also participated in "The Fan" show by SBS. This is where her nickname "JYP's Hidden Weapon" started.
2. LIA (Main Vocal): She auditioned to SM Ent. first and she passed however she did not pursue her career there and auditioned in JYP as well and she passed.
3. RYUJIN (Center, Main Rapper): She got casted at a GOT7 concert. She just attended a concert but a staff spotted her and asked her number which she gave because the staff was cute 😂 Ryujin also competed in a survival show by JBTC "MIXNINE" and ranked #1 in female contestants. YG ceo Yang Hyunsuk wanted to steal her from JYP 😂
4. CHAERYEONG (Main Dancer): She, along with her sister Chaeyeon (who is a former iz*one member now a soloist) was casted by JYP through SBS' competition show "K-pop Star 3". Then she was part of JYP's survival show "SIXTEEN" where the TWICE members will be formed she came far but didn't make it to the final lineup.
5. YUNA (Visual, Maknae): Her sister is a BTOB fan and she accompanied her to KBS Gayo Daejun 2015 and there she got casted by a staff (just like Ryujin).

- RYUJIN and YUNA appeared in BTS' Love Yourself highlight reel and did mini acting there.
- The same year, all ITZY members except LIA appeared on the reality of MNET for Stray Kids.
There's a starter guide for ITZY but these things I mentioned weren't part of it and is a MIDZY knowledge level so I'd like to share it to you in case. If you want to start with something American-adjacent, you can check out “Fire,” the song he did with Conan O’Brien (yes, really) and Steven Yuen, with appearances from young Twice and Wonder Girls in their band era.
You seem to be just around the age to have heard the New Jack Swing trend growing up, so his duet with his protege Rain, “Switch to Me,” may tickle your nostalgia bone. This can be paired with Twice’s Dahyun & Chaeyoung’s parody version.
Then, there’s the essential “national anthem” of JYP Nation, “Don’t Leave Me.” This is the original song he wrote and auditioned at SM Entertainment with. And though they didn’t want to sign him as an idol, they did like the song enough to want to buy it from him. The course of k-pop history would’ve been radically different if he didn’t keep the song and gone into business for himself. Yes very soon!! Just trying to get back into the rhythm of things. Got lots to catch up on and trying to find the time rn is a bit rough.
In the cake me you can see that they go through several dangerous situations such as falling and landing on a truck, being in a squid game like situation, being near lightning, having a car split in half, etc. however they are always okay. They got a lot of hate for sneakers and all of their following releases which I guess represents the dangerous situations, but the lyrics are telling us that we should stop and focus on ourselves instead of hating, and that it’s a piece of cake if you are indifferent. Talkers at least what I got out of it. But seriously they got so much hate and it affected Lia so much as they said she wasn’t a good enough dancer or singer which is absolutely false!

I was kind of wondering if it was saying everything’s okay it’s a piece of cake. That does make the MV make more sense. I hate to hear that they’ve gotten so much hate and for what! I’ll never understand trolls. Like if you don’t have anything nice to say move on. And most haters don’t come near having the talents they do so why even talk about them. OH NOOOOO.... Just so you know,... you were watching their "Preformance" videos. You should watch the ACTUAL MV to the songs. Wannabe, Dalla Dalla, Icy, Not Shy, were all preformance video.
When you watch the MV, you get close ups of the girls and some of them have their own set when they're singing solo. While the performance videos always shows the full group as if it were in a concert.
AND YOU NEED TO REACT TO "MAFIA IN THE MORNING" and also "RINGO" .... the MVs ofcourse.
