    Thanks for the review - we chose the Roland for a home piano. Much more diversity for inviting friends and chatting and performing :)

    Great comparison. Yamaha definitely sounds better. In the future, could you please review without a cap, as I wish to actually see your fingers playing the piano with the over head cameras and your cap tends to block this. Thanks!!😀

  • @elizabethjeffersonespinoza3841

    That was so helpful. I love the look of the Roland, but the Yamaha sound just has more depth to it from my perspective. I’m not sure if realistic depth, having proper key width, or action is my biggest “selling point” but I think in any case, the Yamaha is probably the right one for me, since looks are just secondary.

    Yamaha sounds more real. Seems like Roland still uses synthesis instead of sampling

    Great video! Thanks for putting these beside each other. Roland just can't do an acoustic piano sound to save their lives. Roland pianos only sound good buried in a mix, .....or live when that compressed, plinky metallic Roland tone is needed.

    I am biased. I have the Roland because it was in the right place at the right price at the right time. But I was and still am a Yamaha fan. The both sound great when you play them. I would have either at the price, but Yamaha has a great electric piano sound out of the box. For everything else I would have the Roland.

    Save your money & get a Nord grand instead. Or the Kawai's are nice too for a little bit more. Not sure how the action is on those 2, but the Kawai action is fantastic & worth the extra money.

    Roland is using modeling vs sampling. The modeling gives you a lot of flexibility. You can change the soundboard to several others which give a different sound. You can customize the character of each key as well as work with an EQ. I have the Roland FP90X which has similar functions. For my taste, the 2nd C above middle C and higher was a little too aggressive sounding on the Roland, so I went into the settings, and every key from the 2nd C above middle C, I chose -1 which gave the top end a little warmer sound. You also need to try them out in person as the keys have a different feel so you need to choose which key bed you prefer. In addition, you can EQ each and adjust them to your taste.

    Random question... anyone know the make of the guitar/piano stool Jack is using in this vid? I've been looking for a decent stool with backstop for a while. You get a better view around 15:22. Already pinged Andertons directly and they don't stock the stool :(

      In the real world you might not be so sure. I have both the Yamaha and Roland. Each excels at certain things. Nothing except maybe Nord can beat the Yamaha electric piano sound. However the Roland acoustic sound is pretty close to reality. They are both very hard to beat.

  • @cdmule6714
    @cdmule6714 Před 2 lety +7

    Yamaha sounds better . The electric piano sounds weak on the Roland .what good is 350 sounds if they sound fake ? Asking for a friend . Great shoot out !!!!

    • @Biozene
      @Biozene Před 2 lety +1

      The electric piano sounds are extremely authentic on the Roland, according to a lot of people. You may prefer the Yamaha, but the Roland beats it in authenticity, no question

  • @kevrenshaw6177

    OK Jack. Love your channel. Im a brit living in Oz. Pianos as you know are super subjective. Yamaha has more body, the Roland sits better in a bigger mix. It hasnt changed in the 20 + years I have worked for Cakewalk and M-Audio. Brave attempt bud. Kawai has always sat in the middle ground for me. Bosendorf often is heavier but as I said. It is so subjective. Different tools for different songs. Your a star mate. Falcon Needs to stop Wooping and start Crooning a song for christmas :-)

    • @abariska
      @abariska Před 2 lety +2

      Agree about sitting Roland in a mix. So, for live I’d use Roland and for home/studio - yamaha(due to more realistic piano sounds)

    Going from Yamaha straight to Roland, it makes Roland sound almost mono.

    • @philgray1023
      @philgray1023 Před rokem

      You raise an interesting point. Every piano sound on the Roland can be edited and other than the Concert Piano, the sounds can be a bit mono. You can then edit them to add more space to the sound. Yamaha sounds good in areas the Roland doesn't. Roland sounds good where the Yamaha is pedestrian. The very big thing Yamaha does so well is the electric piano sound. They also make good motorbikes and outboard motors. Roland does not make a good outboard motor.

    Leider ist für mich keins von beiden wirklich überzeugend… Was den Klavierklang angeht gibt es für mich zur Zeit nur eine Firma die diesen überzeugend nachbildet: KAWAI ! Das Roland klingt für mich zu Digital zu sehr nach Ping Ping Pink pingk… Das Yamahe ist im Pianoklang wesentlich dichter am akustischen Piano. Dafür finde ich die E Pianos im Roland wieder sehr gut…
