  • One of my 100W LED floodlights was flickering and I had to fix it to continue with my CZcams video creation.

    Great video, very informative. Had the exact same problem with one of my lights, was going to bin it but I reckon its worth a quick repair now

      +Andreas Spiess my apologies for not asking. I had a quick ten minutes to look at your video in a break at work.
      So, please tell us whom the person might be😀? Also what were you doing in Dubai? What type of project?
      I have to add that since I have come upon your channel, you sir have taught me so much! I kid you not.
      I hope you have many happy days off work.

    Only one row of the right side of LED was working, but why did it flicker though? How to explain it in physical terms?

    I have LT-FL80A model which I have changed its LED Chip but again I have gotten the same flicking issue within 30 minutes keeping ON the LED.

    hi, how are you getting on with the UNI-T 804? would you recommended it?

    • @AndreasSpiess
      @AndreasSpiess  Před 8 lety

      It is ok. I did not have particular requirements, so I cannot tell you if it is good quality. I just wanted a bench multimeter.
      I have other instruments form UNI-T which work fine. So, I bought the -804

    I have a nice 110 v led light oprating on a motion sensor but after a few months it started flashing and flickering. So I replaced the led chip and the problem went away then after a week it started flashing again. Replaced again after a week same thing. My chips didnt have two parts with two supplies. It must be having a heat problem.

    • @AndreasSpiess
      @AndreasSpiess  Před 4 lety

      A heat problem is well possible as these chips produce quite some power on a very small area...

    • @ALSomthin
      @ALSomthin Před 4 lety

      @@AndreasSpiess yes as soon as it heats up 40 seconds or so it gets very hot it starts to flicker and the supply voltage drops from 33 volts and to 20 volts and bounces up and down in response to the flicker.

  • @DiyintheGhetto
    @DiyintheGhetto Před 8 lety

    Hello Andreas can you not reuse the old Led module and just use the good side? can use it for a smaller project a only have half the power so what 50w might be okay for a Diy lamp? Just wondering. It be a shame to get rid of it you know.

    • @AndreasSpiess
      @AndreasSpiess  Před 8 lety

      +joseph chrzempiec (josephchrzempiec) You might be right. Tu use it for experiments, you are certainly right. But I it might well be that something in the manufacturing process went wrong and because it is only one chip, the other side could contain the same error and blow up a little later. The price of a new one is around 5$. So, I prefer to go for a new one for a "production usage".

    • @DiyintheGhetto
      @DiyintheGhetto Před 8 lety

      +Andreas Spiess hey Andreas so true might not take that kind of chance of of a fire or something. so for 5 dollars yeah cheap enough for another one. you are right.

    Hi Andreas - this, as most of your videos has inspired me! I also has a flickering led (floor lamp). I disassembled the (3) LED circuit boards and tested them on a variable voltage/current power supply - I caused smoke to come out of one of them! (I think one of the other also had just a liitle smoke...)
    on the "good one" still left - I can see "4304" (sot23-5 ?) - I think it is a EC4304ANT2R - is this likely?

    • @AndreasSpiess

      I had no luck with these LEDs. Because I had 6 pieces, I had to change LEDs nearly every month. So I decided to replace them yesterday. I use now flat LED panels which give also much less shadow. You will see their effects in future videos.

    • @AndreasSpiess
      @AndreasSpiess  Před 8 lety

      +saturn5tony As I wrote below, probably something in the manufacturing process went wrong and because it is only one chip, the other side could contain the same error and blow up a little later. So, for experiments, this is certainly still usable and I will keep it in my desk!

    • @AndreasSpiess
      @AndreasSpiess  Před 8 lety +2

      +saturn5tony I did not expect so many people helping a half dead LED ;-) Now I am convinced and I try to give the LED a second live.

    Missed opportunity for this video's title "How many engineers does it take to change a light led ?"
    Oh and BTW, check out the 50W driveless LED chips on ebay. 1.84$USD delivered, connects directly to mains power and includes over temp protection !

    • @AndreasSpiess
      @AndreasSpiess  Před 7 lety

      +shodanxx lol. I did not know they exist. But the prices vary a lot. Are there quality differences. I ask, because I had to change a few more since this video...

      They flicker. No problem for outside lights but a huge headache on your workbench.
