Best Train Ride in Sri Lanka (just don't make this mistake)

- We're taking our first Sri Lanka train ride and, although the scenes are amazing, it really was not as smooth as we had hoped! We had a small incident that ended in some blood, but that didn't stop us from enjoying the train ride from Ella to Kandy! The train journey from Ella to Kandy (or Kandy to Ella) is arguably the most beautiful in Sri Lanka and should definitely be on your travel itinerary of things to do on your trip to Sri Lanka!
If you have rented a scooter to road trip around Sri Lanka like we have, you can easily have your scooter brought to your destination so you don't have to miss out on the epic Sri Lankan train rides! We rented Wanda (our scooter) from Sri Lanka Bike Rent, and for a small fee (about $25USD) they organized someone to drive Wanda from Ella to Kandy so we could enjoy the beautiful scenes of this route on the train without losing our dear scooter. Train travel in Sri Lanka is a very popular and accessible mode of transportation. When booking your train tickets from Ella to Kandy, we highly recommend booking third class reserve tickets! Third class tickets mean you will be able to hang out the windows and doors (just be cautious... as you will see in the video, this can definitely be a hazard!) but the reserved section means you are guaranteed a seat! In our case, we actually had the cart to ourselves most of the day and it was magical! We were able to hang out the windows and doors as much as we wanted (maybe too much...) without hogging the gorgeous views. And the cost for the train ticket was still so affordable!
We were happily reunited with Wanda when we arrived in Kandy, and in the next video we will be exploring the colonial city of Kandy!

I was on the same train yesterday from Kandy to Ella. Do you remember the train stopped at a bend? A local went to check what happened and found out a tourist was hit by the train and died. I booked a second class reserved. But had to stand all the journey. Haha...epic views. Plus sri lankan people make the journey best.

that will be the headlines of all local news channels, Also train will be delayed more than 3 ,4 hours than scheduled time.

Well, that train is so empty compared to the other videos I’ve seen in the past… By the way, is it expensive for your flights from Canada, we’re from Alberta? Just wondering how much it would cost, we would love to go to that island paradise.
Yeah it was great to have it to ourselves! And we flew from India to Sri Lanka so it was only a 1 hour flight. We're not sure how much flights from Canada would be right now but we imagine it's far less budget friendly than what we just paid 😅 good luck!
Mr too from Edmonton, we used to go Sri Lanka , some time tickets less than 1500, you have to search frequently , safe , cheap and clean country

Hey guys, did the Colombo to Ella ride in First Class as I mentioned previously. Luckily although the windows didn't open all the doors in the carriages were.. so managed to get some good videos hanging out.. a little 😊 ... 360 came in really useful and got some awesome footage too 😊

@@nicoleandmico You might see elephants on its way to Polonaruwa from the train. Awesome journey through the jungles and paddy fields. Dont forget to see the ruins in Polonaruwa which is only a 2 hour bus ride away from Sigiriya. Ritigala Reserve is another hidden gem which is closer to Anuradapura. If you go further on the train to Polonaruwa and get off at Valaichenai, you can explore the famous beach in Sri Lanka called Pasikuda. That could be a day trip from Polonaruwa.
