Naomi Shemer - Shuli Nathan - "Yeroushalayim shel zahav " -

- The mountain air is clear as wine
The scent of pines around
Is carried on the breeze of twilight,
And tinkling bells resound.
The trees and stones there softly slumber,
A dream enfolds them all.
So solitary lies the city,
And at its heart -- a wall.
Oh, Jerusalem of gold,
and of light and of bronze,
I am the lute for all your songs
The wells are filled again with water,
The square with joyous crowd,
On the Temple Mount within the City,
The shofar rings out loud.
Within the caverns in the mountains
A thousand suns will glow,
We'll take the Dead Sea road together,
That runs through Jericho.
Oh, Jerusalem of gold,
and of light and of bronze,
I am the lute for all your songs.
But as I sing to you, my city,
And you with crowns adorn,
I am the least of all your children,
Of all the poets born.
Your name will scorch my lips for ever,
Like a seraph's kiss, I'm told,
If I forget thee, golden city,
Jerusalem of gold.
Oh, Jerusalem of gold,
and of light and of bronze,
I am the lute for all your songs.
Toi qui es toute d'or.
- Hudba
Viva Israele, viva il popolo ebraico in tutto il mondo! Shalom dall’Italia 🇮🇹
One singer One instrument conveying a few thousand years of history!!
Bingo! Beautifully put!
this song is about the beauty of the old city, and i listen to it everyday although I'm Palestinian, stop hating!
Some parts of this song are taken from Jews holly books, describing tears and miss without Jerusalem. This song was written 3 weeks before it release at 6 days war (1967). So it symbols for us national and religious freedom.
you deserve your peace after 40 years of torture by Pharaohs
Where you from?
Farah Alzubaidi
The poetry and the politics - two things, two different, very-very different things!!
+Farah Alzubaidi It is so beautiful. And the woman's voice... simply beautiful.
I first heard this song soon after the Six Day War/ I fell in love with the lyrics. Although a Scotsman, I learned the Hebrew Language. I studied a Yeshiva Gadolah in Melbourne; yes with the Hasidim and also at the Adas Yisrael schul. Loved the language, loved the culture and loved the people. My best friend in the Australian Army was a Jewish boy. His parents treated me well and regarded me a son. His sister was drop dead gorgeous but not being Jewish; I wasn't even in the race; but after she married, I was close friends with her and her husband; who was an eminent Doctor....What other profession would a Jewish boy take up. Shalom Michael Chaveer! It has been over 50 years since we kept in touch.
have you had an idea to convert back then? Or you just wanted to learn more about jewish tradition?

I'm a household goods mover and did a move for a nursing home. A resident Jewish woman passed away and this was one of her records. I decided to look it up and listen. Beautiful song.

Beautiful song. It brings me tears.
My heart is crying
Just to clarify: the song was composed by Naomi Shemer, but the singer is Shuli Nathan. It continues to bring tears to my eyes after 55 years.
That's correct. I was privileged to hear Shuli sing in person about six years ago and she still sounded great..
brought tears to my eyes,, tonight oct 9, 2023. A heartbreaking time for Israel.
Isralis were promised to build and live in the Golden Jerusalem by God.
Yes, this and Hatikvah
Such a beautiful song, and her voice and playing is so genuinely gorgeous. Loved this song throughout the years💙🇮🇱
In 6th grade one of my classmated grandmother was the singer, so she told us about the story of this song in class.
Obrigada por este registro lindo! Das vozes mais preciosas do folk israeli! Beleza reluzente💙🕊️✨
"The Path Guided by Dafa [Great Law]
Though you and I don’t know each other
We both live on the same celestial body
Our backgrounds differ
Yet with common values of human life
Humankind has reached the final moment in history
Lives are all waiting for the Creator to come to the world
Because of this, I tell you the truth
Do not be dogmatic by following modern notions and conduct
Gods have been choosing lives all along
Amid kindness and evil, you decide for yourself
The path guided by Dafa has no doomsday
January 2, 2015
***
Why Did You Come Here
All are waiting for the Creator’s salvation at the end times
Before demise comes, the Fa principles that save people are spreading
Yet people chase after fame and gain
What’s acquired in a lifetime’s effort cannot be carried away with you
Coming and going-you alone
In a busy life you’ve forgotten why you came here
Before descending, most of you were Kings in your heavenly kingdoms
Giving up your divine bodies to save the heavenly beings
Gain in the human world is not important
Connect your divine destiny, remake yourself
Seek the truth, break free from delusion
Fulfill the wish you came with to the world-that’s your great joy

That's correct brother
More like America the Beautiful tbh
LMFAO so right!!!
@@Maxim89Il song is in 2 parts..... parqgraph and refrain..... paragraph song is clearly copied on basque luluby (with 4 couple of notes removed forxavoid plagiat accusation)..........but refrain is original .. (and titlle is singing only in. Refrain... yerushalaim shel zahav...ve shel nrochet vé shel or..alloll erol shii hira ich ani kinor..... ) this technic lock judiciary pursuits for illegal plagiat..
Love that analogy!!
Something about Naomi's performance (along with the 60's sound quality) evokes the sincerity and earnestness of that era.
The singer of this Naomi Shemer poetic masterpiece is Shulamit Nathan.

Shemer was a songwriting genius, a beautiful poet.
Beautiful song 💕
**This the very best version with a young Shuli Nathan & I Love it very much because it truly touches my heart!
From Brazil, Shalom Israel
I first heard this song while visiting the museum on Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem. The words and historical significance of the song were explained on the wall, and the song played on a loop. Just as I was reading about it, a large group of young IDF soldiers who happened to be visiting the museum stopped by the words and sang the whole song through with her. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life.
From France,
Shalom Israel
Can't stop listening ...

no singer ever beat this original version. nobody! this is no pop song. this is a very insightful serious but beautiful song.
I love this song and this version. Shuli Natan reflects innocence, natural beauty, and her voice reflects the youth of the country at that time. It's timeless. However, for me, the only one person who sings this song in a way that penetrates the depths of my soul is Ofra Haza.
Harlan Bieley same with me.

She is one of the best singers of this classic song
Avir harim zalul kayayin
Ve-rei'ah oranim
Nissa be-ru'ah ha'arbayim
Im kol pa'amonim
The mountain air is clear as wine
And the scent of pines
Is carried on the breeze of twilight
With the sound of bells
U-ve-tardemat ilan va-even
Shvuyah ba-halomah
Ha-ir asher badad yoshevet
U-ve-libbah homah
And in the slumber of tree and stone
Captured in her dream
The city that sits solitary
And in its midst is a wall
Yerushalayim shel zahav
Ve-shel nehoshet ve-shel or
Ha-lo le-khol shirayich ani kinnor
Jerusalem of gold, and of bronze, and of light
Behold I am a violin for all your songs
Eicha yavshu borot ha-mayim
Kikkar ha-shuk reikah
Ve-ein poked et Har ha-Bayit
Ba-ir ha-attikah
How the cisterns have dried
The market-place is empty
And no one frequents the Temple Mount
In the Old City
U-va-me'arot asher ba-selah
Meyallelot ruhot
Ve-ein yored el Yam ha-Melah
Be-derech Yericho
And in the caves in the mountain
Winds are howling
And no one descends to the Dead Sea
By way of Jericho
Yerushalayim shel zahav
Ve-shel nehoshet ve-shel or
Ha-lo le-khol shirayich ani kinnor
Jerusalem of gold, and of bronze, and of light
Behold I am a violin for all your songs
Ach be-vo'i ha-yom la-shir lach
Ve-lach likshor ketarim
Katonti mi-ze'ir bana'ich
U-me-aharon ha-meshorerim
But as I come to sing to you today
And to adorn crowns to you (i.e. to tell your praise)
I am the smallest of the youngest of your children (i.e. the least worthy of doing so)
And of the last poet (i.e. of all the poets born)
Ki shemech zorev et ha-sefatayim
Ke-neshikat saraf
Im eshkachech Yerushalayim
Asher kullah zahav
For your name scorches the lips
Like the kiss of a seraf
If I forget thee, Jerusalem
Which is all gold...
Yerushalayim shel zahav
Ve-shel nehoshet ve-shel or
Ha-lo le-chol shirayich ani kinnor
Jerusalem of gold, and of bronze, and of light
Behold I am a violin for all your songs
Hazarnu el borot ha-mayim
La-shuk ve-la-kikkar
Shofar kore be-Har ha-Bayit
Ba-ir ha-attikah
We have returned to the cisterns
To the market and to the market-place
A ram's horn (shofar) calls out (i.e. is being heard) on the Temple Mount
In the Old City
U-va-me'arot asher ba-selah
Alfey shemashot zorhot
Nashuv nered el Yam ha-Melah
Be-derech Yericho
And in the caves in the mountain
Thousands of suns shine -
We will once again descend to the Dead Sea
By way of Jericho!
Yerushalayim shel zahav
Ve-shel nehoshet ve-shel or
Ha-lo le-chol shirayich ani kinnor
Jerusalem of gold, and of bronze and of light
Behold I am a violin for all your songs
When I hear this images of my childhood fill my mind. Herzliya 1972. Dont know much Hebrew any more, but the words to all the songs have stuck in my mind. Especially this one. One thing unusual about this song, that struck me in my childhood is the last sentence of the chorus which literally means: 'for to all your songs, Im a violin'.
Saludos desde La Paz - Bolivia. 🇧🇴🇮🇱

Naomi Shemer simplesmente maravilhoso.!!!!!
when I see Ofra sing the song I cry for her and the city
From Yakutia (Siberia) Shalom!
👍
