I've had a sony xb 21 for as long as I can remember is the field 1 any better???

I haven't used the XB21 but I will say the ULT FIELD 1 is more powerful than the Sonos Roam, in a comparable form factor. The Sonos is great if you have a whole home SONOS system already though as then all the speakers integrate together.

Only if you pair it with a second speaker. On its own, it is mono.
