Don't have to pack as much as you'd think. I found myself reusing sweaters and hoodies. Since it's a cool weather cruise you don't get sweaty or Sandy.
Very true! I definitely rewore my fleece
I took a 3 in 1 jacket that had a removable fleece with a waterproof jacket in my Sept trip to Alaska last year. It was perfect :). I took water resistant gloves, it rained quite a bit on our trip, was happy to have them. The other must was smart wool brand hiking socks. Iâm a Floridian, Iâm a wimp about the cold and I was nice and toasty. Agree with the belt bag and. Light backpack. I did not feel the needed a poncho, I took waterproof pants, that and my rain jacket were perfect. We did a lot of hiking. Merrill hiking boots were great. Going back again this year, just fell in love with Alaskaâ€ïž
Wonderful to hear what you brought and what worked best đ
Hi Ilana! I just finished my Holland America Alaska cruise and Iâd like to thank you for all the great tips Iâve got from many of your videos! Definitely you made our trip much smoother and nicer! At first, my husband couldnât understand why I was buying âweird itemsâ, like magnetic hooks, special luggage tags, binoculars, rain cover, door decorations, or making reservations weeks before etc. But along the trip he said: âYou are really well prepared for this cruise!â - thanks to you, Ilana! All the best! Hugs đ€
We got back from Alaska yesterday (Holland America eurodam) for our second trip to Alaska. It was cold but something my husband and I found us that it really depends on how cold you get. My husband.. Freezes so he need a jeans, a sweatshirt and his jacket. For me, not so cold, a jacket was sufficient. Even during our cold rainy day in Sitka. After two trips, our thermals never got worn in June or August. Rain Jacket is required and I always say buy one big enough to go over your regular jacket unless that jacket is waterproof. Early June was very wet. Each time we went, I never had enough shorts. The actual ship and our cabin was warm and I always find I need at least a few pair of shorts.
From North Dakota, and I love 3-in-1 ski jackets. The shell and liner can be separated to give you different options depending on the weather.
We're going Aug 2nd!!!! Your video makes me so excited. I've never been to Alaska or Canada. We will be more than ready to beat the Texas heat come August! đ„”đ
Yay!! What a contrast. The air is so fresh in Alaska - enjoy!
I found you through Tony from LA lido loca and haven't stopped watching you from then. Thank you for all your tips and tricks!!
Awesome! I had a great time chatting with Tony! Thanks for your kind words đ
@LifeWellCruised You are very welcome and I tell all my cruise friends about you, Tony and Don.
We're cruising northbound on HAL in late August from Vancouver to Skagway and then doing the overland through the gold country and back down from Fairbanks to Denali and ending in Anchorage. We're then laying over a day in Anchorage before taking a Princess cruise southbound from Whittier to Vancouver. This will be our 3rd consecutive year doing land/sea cruises in Alaska and they never get old. Your tips are quite good.
That sounds amazing!!
we moved from binoculars to monocular they work much better because you can keep one eye on your target as you bring up the monocular
Very interesting
We are going in early July, a little over a month away!!
Fantastic!! Enjoy every minute đłïžđ
Iâm going to Alaska in a few weeks. Itâs my first cruise and Iâm looking forward to it. I have been watching your videos for months and I have learned so much so I feel that I am totally prepared for the trip. Other subscribers have also left some wonderful ideas. Thank you so much IlanaâŠâŠI really appreciate your channel.
Thatâs awesome! Amazing first cruise & Iâm so glad to hear my videos & the comments have been so helpful. Hope you enjoy it! đłïžđ
eeeekkkk soooo VERY excited for u!!!đ€
We go in July for the land/cruise tour. on Princess. Going with my brother, his wife, two sisters and my husband
Your videos have been invaluable! thank you so much!
That land and sea tour sounds fantastic!!
Please share once you are back. We are doing the land and sea tour in August and canât wait.
eeeekkkk so EXCITED for you n yourđ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€ family...we are dreaming n planning đ my daughter n i r trying to figure out the flights
We are going then also. I made the mistake of doing cruise first. Everyone tells me it was a mistake not doing cruise last. Iâm so nervous about the transfers also. Afraid Iâm going to leave my luggage somewhere.
You are AMAZING!! Iâm headed on my first Alaskan cruise in August. Your videos are full of such great tips. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!! I definitely need your planner!!
We are also going in August on our first Alaska cruise đ
We are also heading to Alaska on Holland America in August!
Heading to AK in early September. I just purchased a whole lot of things on Amazon before viewing your video and Iâm happy to say I wasnât far off. I did get a 3-in-1 Columbia ski jacket and also Columbia waterproof hiking shoes. We are not hiking, but I really wanted something for wet weather that wasnât a boot and wasnât a sneaker. I hate having wet feet and I also have some balance issues so I wanted these specifically for Mendenhall glacier day.
Our first cruise was in 2010 on Princess going to Alaska. My sister forgot to bring a jacket. We bought jackets in Ketchikan that we still wear. Went again in 2019 on HAL, more jackets. Going back next year on Princess, will get more jackets. We live in Colorado so we do use them through out the year.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing
Thanks! Always so helpful!
Thanks so much for your generosity and support âșïž
Hi Ilana, I'm going on my first cruise and your videos have provided me with such a wealth of great information! I've watched MANY, many cruising videos and in my opinion no one comes close to your channel for content and quality. I come from a family of cruise enthusiasts who have been trying to get my husband and me on a cruise for years and we finally decided to go for it. We are heading to Alaska on a Celebrity cruise and have booked a suite, this video is exactly the information I need in knowing what to pack. đ Thank you!
My husband and I are sailing on Celebrity Solstice out of Vancouver on July 28th. Which sailing are you on?
Wow a suite for a first cruise!!! Alaska is amazing. Layers, layers and have something waterproof, lots of drizzle. Alaska is a rainforest.
Iâm so glad this video will be useful to you! What a fantastic cruise you have planned đłïžđ

Great video. We are cruising late August.
Heading to Alaska late August early Sept....SO EXCITED!

I wrap clear shipping tape around our luggage handles when we cruise out of our home port in NY, which is all we do, since my husband doesn't like to fly.

Haha I was đ. Enjoy!!
I cruised to Alaska more than 20 years ago and it was one of my favorite cruises since you get to see lots of natural landmarks and so much more!
Just beautiful
Iâm so excited to go in 2025 in August on the Discovery Princess. I absolutely love đ your videos they give so many insight on cruising!!! Thank you
We are going for our first time to Alaska towards the end of July. It should be pretty warm, just stating that because I live in Northern Michigan and Iâm so used to cool weather . However, since we are cruising in July, I do believe it may rain a little bit more so I might have to get a poncho and rainproof bag. Great video as always!! đ
My husband and I are cruising out of Vancouver on Celebrity Solstice July 28th.
I'm going on HAL Westerdam July 28
We're going on our first Alaskan cruise on NCL in September. Love your videos, you provide a wealth of information and ideas.
We are going on an Alaskan cruise in mid June and your videos have helped us prepare so much. Thank you for all the great content.
We booked our Alaska cruise in September 14, with Princess. We are so excited đ
Thanks for the information, we are going next September 2025
I think heated vest is a must.
I'm going on my first Alaskan cruise on 3 July! Coming from Queensland, Australia, I'm struggling to work out what to wear but I don't think I'll be bringing my Australian summer clothing! Thank you for all your videos, they are helping me a lot.
I brought waterproof pants and they were a lifesaver
We're going to Alaska at the end of July. That'll be my 3rd time there. Love it so much. Thanks, Ilana, for this refresher on packing since it's definitely a different type of cruise. But, swimwear is still a must. Maybe chilly at times but that makes the hot tubs all the more enjoyable. đ
We're going in September. It's our first real vacation. Other trips have been mostly about visiting family, since we live far from most of our loved ones. Thank you so much for this great video. I'll be updating our list.
Thank you for this wonderful info. My husband and I are going on our first Alaskan cruise at the end of August, and then to Denali Wilderness Lodge for a couple days. So excited. I have been watching your channel since we booked our cruise and have found the videos very helpful. đ
I love all your suggestions for outer wear that are warm, yet very compact to pack. Oh yes, fleece leggings are the best. Warm and comfy, much better than jeans. Thanks for another great video! â€
I'm going to Alaska, the inside passage at the end of July. I am so looking forward to it!
Weâre starting our Alaska cruise tour next week and have found your videos and your cruise planner very helpful!
Have a fantastic cruise!! So glad the cruise planner was helpful! Thanks for your feedback and purchase đ
Cruising Alaska for the first time in September, appreciate all your helpful tips, Ilana!
Thatâs great! Such an amazing cruise destination đ
Iâm also going to Alaska for the first time in September. So excited
Thanks! 25 days until our second Alaska cruise! We went last year and cant wait to go again and explore Fairbanks and Denali, along with the glaciers this time!
Hi Liana, I love your videos, and learn something new every time I watch. One comment if you donât mind, is to give us the dates of your cruise. A group of us are going to Alaska on the Eurodam in late July. I just watched your video regarding Alaska cruise essentials where you told us what clothing to bring, but Iâm not sure of when you were there and what weather to prepare for. What month did you last visit Alaska. What type of temperatures/ weather should we expect? Thank you for your time, and insight
Glad my videos have been helpful. I think I mentioned in this one that I was there in May :)
Thanks for all the great tips! So excited to be cruising to Alaska in September 2024! Itâs my first time visiting Vancouver, first time visiting Alaska, and itâs also my first cruise ever! Love watching your videos, thanks, Ilana đđŸ
Going on our first Alaska cruise in August
Alaska is definitely on my list! Hopefully 2025! Thanks for your suggestions.
Could you please do a video on airport hotels near where the cruise ships are?
My husband and I are sailing on Celebrity Solstice out of Vancouver on July 28th. We are driving up from Salt Lake City two weeks before to spend time with my kids, grandkids and siblings while staying at an Airbnb in Abbotsford (it's about an hour east of Vancouver). We check out of our Airbnb on Saturday, the 27th and check in to the Best Western Plus Vancouver Airport, where we can leave our vehicle stored for $14/day for the duration of the cruise.
We got a single queen room for $159/night (Cdn), and can easily take the Canada Line train from the airport right down the the Waterfront Terminal.
The downtown Hotels (Pan Pacific, etc) are EXTREMELY expensive and we're already going to be pampered onboard so there's no need to spend $400/night to $500/night Cdn. at a hotel just because it's close.
Also, there is a Major International Fireworks display as well as a football (soccer) game between the Vancouver Whitecaps and Ryan Reynolds owned British football team, so hotels are going to be hard to come by if you haven't already booked.
I booked ours three months ago!
She has a great one on Vancouver as a departure city visit. Very helpful as we will be there two days prior to our cruise.
Which city are you departing from?
@@LifeWellCruised No plans so far but I would like to know the information for a later time.
I'm going in mid-August, but I expect that it can still be very cool on the water. This is my second time on an Alaska cruise. This is a shorter cruise for me. The lanyard and power cube are good ideas that I hadn't thought of before.
Hi Ilana. We're going on a cruise to Alaska in 2 weeks! So excited! We have only gone on 1 cruise before- 30 years ago! Thank you for all your tips! I have been subscribed to your chanbel for 1 year already. You have been very helpful.
So glad! Have an amazing cruise!
First Alaska loan cruise July 22!!!
Your channel is so amazing and informative! Thank you! My family and I are going on our Alaska cruise in 10 days. We are so excited and your videos have helped us prepare properly for our trip ahead! Keep these videos coming. You're the best!
So exciting!! Glad my videos have been helpful as you plan. Enjoy every minute đłïžđ
My first cruise will be Aug 3! Weâve been to Alaska and my parents have cruises it several times, but not me! Iâm so excited Iâve already started to pack! Your videos are amazing! TY
Congrats! We will be leaving Aug 3 on our first Alaskan cruise toođ
We sail in 21 days!!! EEEEK! I'm so excited! I *think* I have everything but the crossbody bag on my packing list. I have been trying to decide if it's worth getting one...I think between you and Sherri Griffiths I'm convinced. đ
Hi Ilana, great video as always. FYI, i found a Patagonia rain coat for me that a review site said it was the only one they tested that was truly waterproof. And they have mens sizes up to 3X.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing this
Thank you so much. Our cruise will be in early July. Iâm a home body so Iâm not really looking forward to traveling, but I am looking forward to making memories with our 6 year old twins. Your suggestions and advice is helping with my anxiety.
Have an amazing cruise! This is a pretty relaxed but fun cruise itinerary, hope you enjoy
Iâm going on my 3rd Alaska cruise next month
An FYI....Just cruised to Alaska this past May and it was in the low 40's temp and rained EVERY day. Only days it didn't rain was in Glacier Bay and Victoria. Thanks for the videos! đ
Oh no! Lol Alaska weather is truly unpredictable
@@LifeWellCruised Still had a fantastic cruise!
Leaving in 1 week for our first Alaska Cruise! I have never seen those bottle toppers! Buying now lol
Hi Ilana love your vlogs! itâs my first Alaska cruise this coming 1st and 2nd week of Aug. Do you know what the weather will be like? Iâve enjoyed listening to all your vlogs, tips when going to a cruise. Keep up the good work. looking forward to your next vlog.
Just bought the vest.
I love it!â€
This is such helpful info! Our intention is to cruise Alaska in 2026.
Perfect timing lol
Thanks for this Ileana. I signed up for Holland Americaâs standby program and just found out at 4pm today that I am sailing tomorrow. Yikes, I have been to Alaska several times before, but it was great to watch this video as a refresher on what to pack.
Omg thatâs so exciting!!!!! Enjoy
I sure hope you live close to the port. We live in San Diego and HAL sails from here. I should check into that. It sounds a bit nerve racking! Bon Voyage!
I live on Vancouver Island, so just have to hop on the ferry to Vancouver.
Leaving on Ovations of the Seas on July 5.
Great reminders! We are going to Iceland, which looks like it will live up to its name! The only thing I don't plan on taking are waterproof shoes, and hoping the socks will get me by should it be necessary.
Scotchgard your tennis shoes. Travel Tips by Laurie has a video on comfortable waterproof shoes that are cute and functional.
Heading to Alaska May 2025, cannot wait!!!
Did Alaska last July and was so happy to have both waterproof shoes and pants! I also brought disposable towels to dry things off like benches etc. They are pressed into little disks and pop open when they hit water. So very compact.
Ohhh. I forgot about the pop up towels. We take them on hiking vacations. I will pull some out and add them to my pack. Thank you for the reminder!
The towels are a great idea!
Hi Ilana. My wife and I are cruising to Alaska the end of May and 1st of June 2025.
Thanks for your suggestions on what to bring.
What helpful info! My cousin (who is a regular cruiser) told me about your channel. I booked a last minute cruise yesterday on Seabourn Odyssey from Vancouver. We leave in two weeks. Your packing suggestions are very helpful. I am wondering if June is warmer and drier than May?
By the sounds of it, I'd definitely want a washing hamper that had plenty of airing so dirty damp clothing can get a bit of air and not begin to go mildewy... likewise I'd probably want a few "wet laundry bags" either to pack damp clothes into OR to protect the dry stuff from the damp (depending on which I had more of :) )
