Great vid! Awesome fish. Nicely done. I encourage everybody not to let fish that's going to be released get scratched on the rocks. I'd wet the ruler too in order to minimize the damage to their sensitive skin. Keep up the good work. Tight lines!!

I'm only 20 minutes away from the falls. I'm totally new to fishing and i want to take my nephew there. I feel like seeing this video and knowing where you are and what bait your using we will be able to do what you did and have success.

Could you describe the crank baits you were using?
I worked at that dam for a little bit. Amazing views there for sure. If you are ever there and hear the siren, go off dont just ignore it. A flood gate or several are being raised and the water level will rise fairly quickly.
Yes never ignore the sirens and have an escape plan!
Being in northeast Ohio I never experience this at a damn this size as I'm nowhere near a river that size, but I'll never forget one winter a friend and I were catching gills and perch at the Lake Milton spillway when we heard the siren. We were sitting on the wall by the gates and they opened the ones we were fishing. Rarely are those the ones opened unless we get crazy rain so all this silt and shit rose up and in no time water was flying out. We didn't have to run but definitely couldn't stick around. I can't imagine what it would be like on a larger body of water. Wish we had more wipers near me

How do you know when the water is flowing? I've been there a few times and it was never flowing and couldn't catch anything.
I usually look up the flow reports for the Ohio River at McAlpine Lower online. They release the levels hourly and daily. Good luck out there 😎🎣

Pretty neat area, do you ever get any Smallmouth?
I have better luck finding smallmouth in the creeks and rivers around Taylorsville Lake, Floyd's Fork or Indiana. But yeah there are some nice ones up here, they just run small in size. Floyd's Fork, unfortunately, has had some recent housing developments being built too closely and that has had some environmental impact and pollution.
Happen to know how many foot was being released this day?
Sorry, I don't remember the levels but just right for those sweet stripers to bite. Just waiting for another day to head back out for that bite again soon.
