    Wow. Your comment section is very entertaining. For one thing chlorine bleach is absolutely NOT salt water. Omg. And they keep harping on the use of a fan. In your video you said using a fan for air circulation with heat and a dehumidifier is key. It’s also true. One of the reasons the “experts” recommend ceiling fans in every room. I think some of the people making comments about your video missed the part where you said small areas of mold. If it’s a large area or is mixed with sewage you’d need a professional. I find your video very informative and accurate. Thank you.

    Well this guy in obviously not a Mold guy. Here is the facts..Never dry any mold with fans..You cross contaminated the entire area and disperse the spores, and they could get into your AC return and now you're Whole house is a mold house..You never spray anything on a mold surface without first HEPA vacuuming, some mold speci's Blum when hit with moisture or in this case a spray.. Spraying a affected area is the last step of any protocol..The biggest myth is once you kill the mold your fine..Dead mold vs live mold or viable mold works on the body the exact same way, no difference..And finially..The mold you see growing on building materials or that cardboard box did not start there, it started with elevated mold spores in the air and with moisture it attached to the wall or whatever building product you see it started collinizing to where you can see it because of the proteins in the materials, (food source)..The key to properly fixing surface mold problems is to find what area's are affected by Bio-aersol Air testing, then HEPA vacuum, then wet wipe with a fungul solution, and most importantly run air srcubbers to take out the spores that cause the issue in the first place, and implement dehumidifiers to control the moisture..Not fans.. I've been a indoor Environmentalist and remediator for 20 years..Pass on the commercials on TV and the internet and hire a professional, because it's not What you see making you sick, It's what you can't see...

      Good Morning Jerry,
      Thanks for your notes and comments. I guess you'll have to take up your concerns with the mold abatement professionals I consulted in making this video. I've been teaching people about mold abatement for 15 years, always in consultation with professional mold people here in Canada. Everything in this video was cleared by them. I've never had any technical criticisms like yours before. Why would you rate your opinions over those of licensed mold abatement professionals that advise me and approve the content I create?
      Take care and thanks for watching.

      I'm in the tropics. There aren't remediation services here. As soon as rainy season is here the mold and mildew begin to pop up. And I break out in hives. Tried vinegar first. Wiped of the ceiling rafters and concrete walls. Stayed away for a while. Then started smelling that musty smell again recently. It was in my dresser . Had to wash everything, take the cardboard covering of the back and wiped it down with Borax. The smell was gone. Now it's started raining again and it's back. What can I do?

      Both of you have incredibly valuable information regarding mold and removal, and I am grateful for so much info about this important topic. I do believe that most people truly have no real idea of just how dangerous and prevalent of an issue that mold really is. I live in Southern Louisiana where the mold issues is epic horrible, with high, high humidity. We grow all molds here in every form and color!!! lol. I have found an incredibly easy and 100% effective and cheap method for dealing with all mold issues... For baskets, walls, shower etc, I simply drown it in clorox first and then after it dries, drown it in Lysol ll Brand, which 'KILLS' mold. This method WORKS, is cheap and easy to get the supplies. The mold never comes back. I wish everyone knew this. I came across your video, because I am looking for a way to remove mold from an antique lace table cover that my Grandmother gave me over 20 years back. Otherwise, I wouldn't have ever found your vid. Thank you for your work Sir, beautiful vid.

    I've been having more problems with my asthma lately so I decided to check one of my closets that I rarely use because my computer desk is in front of it. And there was a brown stain on the ceiling and on the floor the carpet was damp and there was some type of black mold on the drywall and underneath the carpet. (and man did it stink, when I sucked up the moisture from the carpet, very scary especially since I have asthma)
    Here's hoping my frigging landlord actually does something about it, I've done all I could from using my carpet cleaner, spraying the area with disinfectint that kills mold, and running my mini de humidifier.

    I was looking for someone who did not recommend bleach for treatment of black mold on pourous materials.. because I knew that was not the right treatment. this video was very professional and validated some of the things I did know about black mold. Therefore, I was more inclined to believe his recommendations. As far as the fan, I am sure he does not mean to blow high rate direct blowing on the mold. My common sense suggest he indicates increasing ventilation to dry out the affected material.
    Thank you for this VIDEO.. exactly what I was looking for to tackle the mold around the fridge baseboard.

    During a routine termite inspection the report came back clean of termites but we have mold growing in the crawl space under neath the house. The mold is on the ground as well as up on the joists but it's only growing in the front area of the house which faces east and no mold is present anywhere else that we can find. I guess we should find the source of the mold first and then remove it. However, we live in Florida and it is of course very humid here. Why would mold be growing only in one area and not the other. I've got a rather small mold problem with small black spheres that look to be growing on only the very top of my carpet's strands. My understanding has always been that a moldy carpet is effectively lost, simply because it's too difficult to properly clean it out once it's gotten mold. Too pours, hugs water too much. THere's an inconsequentially low chance of a large amount of water occuring in the same spot again.
    My question is, is carpet theoretically salvageable by cleaning or should it be removed?

    • @moakley
      @moakley Před 6 lety +5

      Carpet needs to be turned back and checked. Your subfloor could be wet and the underlay under the carpet could also have mould growth or is damp. If you have mould growth on the back of the carpet then the carpet is non restorable and needs to be replaced.

      That's OK, but you need to prevent the mold spores from flying around as you work. One way is to spray a soap solution, about 1: 10 mixture, and keep it wet as you work. The soap greatly increases the wetting ability of the water. You need to remove ALL the mold, everywhere it is found. Killing it is not good enough because even dead mold spores are still toxic. They just don't multiply.

    • @nonsibicunctis
      @nonsibicunctis Před 7 lety +8

      The spores of mould are so small that you won't see them with the naked eye. It is impossible to remove all mould because it is carried in the air and so, even if your place *was* completely free of it at one stage, the minute that you open a door or window mould spores will enter. That is one of the reasons you must be very careful when removing it in any room - it is very easy to disturb spores and inadvertently transfer them to another room.
      Bleach is often used and many proprietary products include it. Bleach doesn't actually kill mould spores. What happens is that the mould growth which is what you are actually seeing is removed by the bleach but the spores from which it grows will still be in the surface of the ceiling or whatever and so the growth will eventually come back.
      So, the moral of the story is to use a proper mould removal agent and be careful about your mops, rags, or whatever that you use. In addition provide good ventilation and make sure that areas are dry. Moisture, darkness and a lack of airflow or what causes mould to grow.
      A cheap and effective mould combatant is household vinegar mixed 8 parts vinegar to 2 parts water. It will remove both the mould growth AND the spores.

      prorailer I finally looked under my 2 sinks at holes way too big for the pipes going through the wall. My nose finally led me there, took 2 weeks! I heard this apt had a roof leak that went into bathroom and they rebuilt it well other than putting that filler foam between the pipes and the wall. Thats where i found it at. Try opening the attic step door too if ya have one. Good day

      Toob247 Toob247 Thanks. Yea the nieghbor said the roof leak went into bathroom in front of sink thru the heat lamp fixture. Looks like replaced tiles and part of sink cabinet cut back probably was wet. Then the new paint and just a little dab of hole filler at pipe thru wall. My nose led me there for that nasty smell. I wont get permission to tear anything out. They're old apts. and really think all i can do is get them to seal the holes better with that foam stuff. Prob'ly all apts have nasty molds in walls from leaks and never heard of them taking walls out to fix this kind of prob. Thanks for fedback !

    Thank you so much for your video. My problem is that we have mildew or mold growing on the ceiling of our tiny bathroom. I open the window after a shower, but it's not effective in preventing the mildew growth. There is no exhaust vent. I'm really stumped. Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated!

      Without proper airflow in a bathroom you will have growth forsure. If the microbial growth is on drywall it needs to be contained and removed. You do need to find a way to get a vent or fan Installed. When you open the window it could let spores in and make things worse, a quick burp of the bathroom should be fine but not for a long time.

      Not an elegant fix, but a simple box fan left running will remove/redistribute the moisture.

      surferdudette19 it needs to be removed. Even dead or dormant growth is an allergen and can be toxic. No Miracle chemical just needs to be discarded properly and remove.

    Immune system is part of your body. Your body can stop a mold infection from killing you. I simply keep my environment clean, while playing with chemicals through art not with pills. This guy is a cleaner selling his business. In a century or so people will have brains to understand molecular chemistry to geo a better understanding of microbiology.

    How should I address the Deadly Problem of Mold on each of 21 floors Air Vents? The color of the mold is Grey, Green and White , it's so thick that it looks like cotton the size of the grid is approximately 13" by 15" and the holes are square shaped. I've lived in this Apt Complex 22 yrs and didn't notice that there was an air vent on the floor in the hallways until last yr 2018. I did notify the NYCHA about this Deadly Problem. NO RESPONSE YET FROM the Dept of NYCHA!!
    THANKS

      I have researched this, and I make a solution of white vinegar, water and tea tree oil, and spray it in my shower, under the sink, the faucet, and inside the toilet tank. Then, make sure you run your bathroom fan for at least a half-hour.

    I have a client who has had water damage years ago and he never replaced the moldy areas with new materials. He just let it dye out and believes dry mold is then non toxic. Now he has several major diseases and via my own inspection of his home he has several old stains and new moist stains. He refuses to believe how dangerous that is. Any help?

      Thanks for writing. Isn't it amazing how vigorously people can hide from the truth sometimes? Have you conducted any indoor air quality tests? I just came across an airborne mold detector kit. It's called MyMoldDetective. I haven't used it yet, but you take an air sample, then send it away for analysis. Perhaps this is worth a try in this case.
      Drop by my website baileylineroad.com for a visit sometime. You'll find lots of stuff there, including tool giveaways, articles and the chance to ask me questions.
      Bye for now and thanks for watching!

      Hi Barbara,
      Your toilet problem might not be mold. Sometimes minerals in the water can leave rings behind in toilets. Are you on well water or town water?

    Bleach may not kill mold but the main ingredient will kill mycotoxins something that's not mentioned in this film clip

    • @atari7001
      @atari7001 Před 4 lety +3

      This is absolutely not true. Bleach can stimulate a mold population into a stress response, which can cause it to produce MORE mycotoxins. 1% ammonia has been proven to deactivate the mycotoxin molecule. I know, I tried both and there is a clear difference.

    • @victoryleo8310

      atari7001 what about vinegar

    • @atari7001
      @atari7001 Před 4 lety

      victory Leo there was a major study to determine what the mechanism behind ammonia’s detoxification nature is. Apparently ammonia opens a ring in the toxin structure that allows the toxin to tightly bind to a neighboring molecule in the contaminated material. Neutralizing it with something like vinegar afterwards closes the ring and makes the bond tight. I don’t think you could get this detoxification mechanism to work without opening the ring first with ammonia.
