    Robin- a couple of things. If the pens get clogged, you can use rubbing alcohol to dissolve the clog or refresh the nib. You can also replace the nib entirely. Hope this helps!

    Had bought 2 for a project but ended up using something else...so really glad you gave us some ideas, like using for edging embellishments and on black paper. I hadn't thought of either of those uses, so thanks so much!

    Woooooooooah an awesome review. A great clear and concise video, and such a range of surfaces. Not to mention a load of HINTS & TIPS, I have learnt so much thank you. The markets looked ideal until you showed the width of the nibs! I'm looking for metallic pens withe a really FINE TIPPED NIB to use on glass and painted over with black acrylic paint! But I've taken notice of the pens reviewed for future pieces.
    Thank you for a great video, take care and have a great week 👍😷👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    These appear to be much easier to achieve agold or shimmer effect than having to use a minc or other heat foil device. I enjoy your videos and how you completely test the products thankyou

    Funny how the "pale gold" looks darker than 18k one. I just ordered the pale gold, and the pens look pretty bronzey in tone to me. Also was hoping you'd have tried it on wood and over wall paint.

    Very interesting pens. I have metallic sharpies, but there is something about these that looks better. Thanks for sharing.

    I was thinking about decorating a leather/faux leather E-reader case to look like a book cover but when you said that these don't like alcohol I got a little concerned about how it might react to cleaning supplies like disinfectant wipes or even hand sanitizer. Is there anything I should be concerned about? I just got the actual case but I have a feeling I'm going to use it quite a bit so how do they hold up against weathering? I just want to know if it's actually worth decorating my case at all like this before even thinking about buying anything...

    Nice vid!! I have a quesstion: is the Krylon Gold Leafing Pen useful for ceramic work? I mean is it dishwater safe after oven process?

    Hey Jenny, maybe you can help me. As much as I love LOVE the look of these pens, and I have used them to edge layers and die cuts, every single time I buy one of these pens it stops working after a few weeks. It's not that they are empty, and I have tried everything to get them working again. I do everything right, I store them horizontally, but as these pens are not cheap, I hate the idea of throwing away half of my purchase. I have started using metallic calligraphy pens instead. Any ideas?

  • @crafttestdummies
    @crafttestdummies  Před 11 lety

    I did not. My reasoning is that you would just use it on the shrink plastic *after* it was shrunk- and that's the same as using it on plastic. Are you wondering how it holds up to heat?

    This was a really great review however I still have a question. How long do you need to let the item dry before you start using it?

    • @crafttestdummies
      @crafttestdummies  Před 7 lety +1

      shelleyjr213 Leafing pens are solvent-based so they dry pretty quickly- under 10 minutes! Reminder that that are not food or dishwasher safe--for decoration only.

      @shelleyjr213 Před 7 lety

      Thank you! They dried pretty fast here in the SW desert! I am using them on plastic dominos to make pendants. But I do have another problem. I am getting streaks! I don't think I am applying it correctly. Any advice on avoiding streaks on plastic? Maybe another layer of paint is what is needed. Thanks again for your reply.

    • @crafttestdummies
      @crafttestdummies  Před 7 lety

      Make sure you shake it up thoroughly- and yes, you may need a second coat.

    • @shelleyjr213
      @shelleyjr213 Před 7 lety

      Thank you again! I have been shaking it in between each domino piece that I am working on. One thing I think I wasn't doing correctly was getting enough paint on the pen. I will do a second coat and hopefully that will take care of the streaks. Your advice is greatly appreciated and I am grateful.

    hey Jenny I was wondering where I can order these from? Because I was trying to look for the Red Shimmer Krylon Leafing Pen from Amazon, but I couldn't find it there. I had however found the Gold and Silver and Copper, but the one I wanted to buy was the Red Shimmer? Where can I find that one please?

  • @genericjesus8803

    coming from a computer geeks perspective, have you looked into the MSDS of these products? It would be interesting to know how much 'silver' or 'gold'...etc, etc are in these products. Alcohol is the medium BUT what else is in there? Silver oxide, zinc, aluminum oxide, copper/bronze oxides. You don't want a work of art to turn green in 3 months, although Dali might like it (Dali's great). when I want to buy 'silver leaf' I want it be as PURE as possible not aluminum oxide...that's in suntan lotion

    • @crafttestdummies
      @crafttestdummies  Před 6 lety

      These are solvent-based inks, so there isn't real gold leaf in them. They haven't "turned"in all the years I've used them.

    • @Kyomiibrown
      @Kyomiibrown Před 6 lety

      Generic Jesus silver leaf will tarnish regardless how “pure” - to remedy that use shellac varnish.

    Can i use it on canvas?

    • @crafttestdummies
      @crafttestdummies  Před 7 lety

      Yes- but I'd recommend using on Gesso'd canvas to get the shine. The paint will just seep into unprimed canvas and you won't see the metallic glimmer.

    • @diamond_ocelot6
      @diamond_ocelot6 Před 3 lety

      Why street graffiti? And is it illegal graffiti or legal street art? Because there is actually a difference... but I too would like to know how they stand up against standard weathering (like say the type of weathering a school bag or a phone case may go through with constant use)

    • @crafttestdummies
      @crafttestdummies  Před 8 lety +1

      +R.B. Rozier It works fabulously on metal. I show a few examples at minute mark 4:00. As for fabric, it's a mixed bag. You don't get a whole lot of sparkle since it soaks in. But I'm making a follow-up video to show you fabric samples.
