just bought one of these from my local hobby lobby. weighted it down with pennies and now it's strong enough to smash old windows across the backyard. I found the heaviest thing you can shoot far is a steel marble
I built one of these with my grandson. We had a lot of fun doing it. I would recommend it as a project to do together. We weighted it with rocks and could shoot the clay ball 20 feet or so. We, of course, tried shooting different things. A rock went only a few feet. A ping pong ball went 20 feet. It was fun that it brought up so many questions with a chance to experiment and then dig into the principles with him.
The trebuchet is the superior siege weapon.

Three things wrong with Leo Vinny. The swing arm should be supported by two post. The entire trebuchet must be mounted on wheels. You should have the release pin adjustable.

So to make this actually efficient you'd have to calculate how much that release string is pulling on the trebuchet to get an effective weight ratio of 1:133. (You need more weight to account for wind up thingy)

Nope, didn't appear to shoot efficiently after all that selling talk. Nor it was built to sustain with only one side axle support.
I've built it, but when I pull the string to release the arm, the catapult swings round and at the top of its circle it drops the clay ball out, straight down. It shouldn't drop it. I can't get it to throw the ball forwards. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.
Arch Stanton Hello! So did you buy this kit or tried building it yourself? If you made it yourself the part that swings should be in ratio 3,75:1 and lenght of string should be same as the longer piece that it is atached to... If you bought the kit you should try adding/removing weight... Look at Mythbusters video "making trebuchet" They had same problem! Hope this helps!

Jcknight7996 Not that well... you would need force to lift the rocks and load it... It would be better to make a small sling or that thing for throwing rocks (idk how you call it on english but it can send rocks flying pretty fast) It could work for zombies to break our forts though :D

i find an issue with this kit. the brain store is selling this without propper support ont the fulcrum point of the arm. a thin dowel can't support that weiggt transfer over and over. what a joke. I'll build my own.
