- In this video we attempted to start an early 1960's GMC Snubnose Dump Truck with a V6 Gas Engine. After not being able to start it when it was sitting, we attempted to pull start it with a Case Forklift but that also did not work.

I am pushing the downhill side of 73 in may so if god pulls my ticker, drop me off right there! I could make everything run again. Them particular v6 engines with the spark plug straight up was designed for a diesel injector in gm's mind and it was not much good as either but gas was the best choice. I worked as a mechanic right up to the day I got crippled for good. that was fifteen years ago but I started full time in sixties, i did wrench for dad in the fifties. worked in logging camps in alaska. clean the distributor and start with good plugs on that gmc... gearing on that old girl has to be in the low seven's or even eights. Lot of scrap to move with a hundred horse engine. must weigh a good five tons or more. must of been a highway plow truck and did some sanding too but need sand more than traffic to just move it. Got to love internet as you see everyones back yard

is this a junk yard that all the vehicles are at my grandparents had a old army truck that was used for medical transportation he would go out and start that thing every time we were there until he passed away and sold everything on the land I enjoy watching

Good Ole GMC V6. Diehard those motors are. The 401/478 V6s are the rarer ones then the big 702 CID V12 = Holy grail But it's a SWEET old GMC B-Series truck.
My I remember truck like that V6. I was 16 it was skipping loaded big hill. Barley made it many trips. Im now 68.

A B Series GMC! I loved those trucks. Had a 63 4000 that someone had put a 5 speed in, added onto the frame and made it a 10 wheeler with a steel dovetail bed. I hauled a 350 Deere with a backhoe on it, about 14,500 lbs. The old 305 really was underpowered but as long as you acted like it was 1965 with it, you were fine. All mechanical gauges including an hour meter in the tachometer and a 6 digit odometer.

@@oldschooltruckingphotos mine went to a collector in California 10 years ago. 32000 miles 2100 hours. Actual readings.
A 5 speed was an option in the 4000. Local paving contractor where I lived when I was a kid had a GMC fleet. All his single axles were 4000 Jimmies, and all had a New Process 5 speed and 2 speed

It's crazy how much it looks like the Ford snub nose truck.
Needs a starter and a check of the ignition (points, rotor, condenser and coil) plus the condition of the wires,etc
Nice try to get the old girl going. Sometimes it just can't be done without getting inside the engine.

Hey Rodney, that old MCI is a Camper Coversion I do believe, and he would sell it. It’s Detroit powered but needs new tires, runs as far as I know. Located in NH.

@@oldschooltruckingphotos I have a Chilton's truck repair manual it goes in exploded detail of each item on the GMC V6 Engines. V6 big block engines were produced in 305, 351, 401 and 478 cubic-inch (5.0, 5.8, 6.6, and 7.8 respectively liter) displacements, with considerable parts commonality. During the latter years of production, 379-and-432-cubic-inch (6.2 and 7.1 L) versions with enlarged crankshaft journals were manufactured as well.
