I remember Gibbs press conferences and if a reporter downplayed an opponent he would lose it. He talked about every opponent like they were the undefeated Dolphins. He respected every opponent even though EVERYONE knew (players, reporters, fans) we would crush them. That tone I think kept the team focused.

Thanks John and Bram. John Keim you are the best, trustworthy and accurate ! Enjoyed the nonfootball BBQTalk too.....I loved the insight on Gibbs and other coaches. I'm a long time San Antonio Redskin/Washington fan, (shoutout to Redskin San Antonian Darryl Grant) and here in San Antonio some of the local Cowboy biased media are very sad to see Quinn leave, they thought he was a great coach and said he will be missed.

I remember thinking that Gibbs' best move was hiring Greggg Williams, but hiring Saunders was his worst. By the time he hired Saunders, after year 2, he and his staff were adapting to the NFL a bit. They weren't dominating, but they went on a strong late-run where the offense was clicking well enough.
The problem with hiring Saunders is that his flavor of 'Coryell' was SO different from Gibbs' flavor that it was basically starting completely over from scratch. That and the bad free agent signings really set them back going into year 3 and 4. He needed to find someone running a version of Coryell who could come in and help patch up his system rather than starting over.

In hindsight, having Spurrier was eerily similar to having EB around. The expectations were so high and we were blinded by past successes that we failed to see the writing on the wall as they fumbled and bumbled their way until the end.

Second thought - next time you all walk into the room and know a thing isn't going to work with some new hire...can we get a heads up? Maybe we'll work on a signal? Blink slow three times, like a hostage. We'll know it means the thing isn't going to work.

What the fans REALLY want to know can only come from AP/ DQ........WHY are we not doing everything possible to make team better with the FA's available right now? LT, CB, Edge, and a lesser extent WR. Fans got excited with the top down ovrhaul, to only get to the half way mark, when there are plenty of rungs still able to be climbed this off season. The "build through draft" talk while team still has holes to fill is giving the impression Coach/ AP rather sacrifice possibilities this year and roll over $$ to next year as a cop out. They will claim "success" if we win a game or 2 more each season will NOT sell tickets. Harris needs to wake up and tell front office to get moving on these issues. Fans will NEVER forgive entire org if A: JD gets RG3d, or B: Wash misses out on post season because we did better than expected, but could not win "enough" because of lack of addressing some areas. And they do it to protect their job security instead of getting BOLD and making JD year 1 a shock to the league. Im a 50+ yr fan, and have not bought tickets in 10 years. If they found a way to trade for BA, and brought in Bakhtiari and Gilmore I and MANY others would line up for tickets....Because we would have HOPE. Right now we dont even feel the front office has faith in team.We want answers from the big guys (AP/DQ) as to WHY!

Peters won't kill the cap to win a couple more games and put us in cap he'll. If these players would come in on cheap 1-year deals like Wagner, he would do it, but he doesn't was a 3-year player staying because cap doesn't let him cut him and player won't sign for less. This is year 1.
