Best of luck with your new endeavors Tristan. The future is bright!
As an owner - operator, I can tell you it is not just new motor yacht owners who struggle with docking or even anchoring. I have been an owner of sizable vessels for over 20 years. In 2010, I was truly shocked when I transitioned from a 1990 52 ft flybridge to a modern 55 ft flybridge boat. I felt very insecure docking this new boat, despite joysticks, bow and stern thrusters and a cockpit docking station.
The reason soon became obvious. Modern boats are 50% lighter compared to old solid GRP boats of similar size, for the same, or even higher windage. The cored hulls are lighter and stronger, which is safer and saves fuel, but those light planning hulls have no inertia at all and a very shallow keel, which make docking and close quarters maneuvering a whole different challenge, even for seasoned helmsmen. And this is an even bigger problem in southern France, west of Marseille, in Croatia, the Aegean, or any other windy area in the Med and beyond.
Perhaps you need to make a vlog to explain these dynamics in detail, so people who transition to new boats are at least aware of what is coming, and receptive to the idea of getting some initial training on how to handle this new and different animal.

The upside is Mercury Skyhook, Volva Docking, etc., are all coming into play including auto-adjustment (including of elements) to keep stationary and not be bounced all over the place, and proportional thrusters are a godsend when you're trying to single-handed dock a 60 foot flybridge in poor conditions.

Tristan, I appreciate your professionalism and attention to details and good seamanship. Best of luck Navigating this "sea change" in your life! Acting as a consulting Captain for those trying to make their way commercially should be a great benefit to those that can get past their egos and honestly allow for a circumspect look at what they have done in the past. Here's hoping that the contract on the new build works out- that would be a fascinating look inside!

Hello there Tristan, I really wish you the very best of luck whatever you decide to do. I would love to see the built of a superyacht/megayacht step by step! One way to make money would definitely to stay in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area and teach these owners of vessels between 30 and 60ft how to navigate! These boats are pretty much available to everyone with $ and many people in Florida have disposable monies! But they should not be on the water! Cheers

    • @DriveSafeDon

The best thing you can do here in Florida when teaching people how to use their small yacht or up to 100 feet is common sense teach them common sense something you don’t see my of out on the water. Looking forward to seeing a super yacht be built

Thanks for the update Tristan. Your ideas sound great. Watching the building process of a super yacht could be very interesting, particularly if you can capture the tension and interplay between the different factions: architect, designer, interior designer, engineers, accountants, owner, Mrs owner, etc etc and the compromises reached.
The training of more inexperienced owners of smaller craft could be equally if differently fascinating.
It’s great to hear your plans and to see you looking well and fit. Wishing you all the best - onward and upward!

Have you spoken with Sunreef? Their big 60 to 80 ft power catamarans are selling like hotcakes, they recently put a 100ft boat on the water, and have plans for a 140.
So I'm guessing a majority of these will be crewed, but even then would it not be prudent to give the owners handling and at the helm experience in case of unforseen emergency, or if they simply fancy driving themselves.
I think this could be a nice little niche - basic training and mentorship for the owners.
Good to see you are keeping well and planning ahead - looking forward to your future adventures.
