Star Trek First Contact Main Title

  • The eighth score in the franchise, and this movie would bring a much needed breath of fresh air into the series. It is arguably the best in the entire franchise, but many would probably place it second behind The Wrath of Khan. This would see the return of Goldsmith once again, and he would never leave the franchise once he became involved this time (that is until his death).
The theme presented here is a bold, and somewhat nostalgic if I may say so myself. A heroic theme is what Goldsmith wrote here, and he would use it plenty of times through out the score. Also returning would be the Klingon theme and not much has changed with the theme other than the fact that the tempo had certainly been increased which made feel like a true battle theme. However it's probably best to call it the Worf theme by this time since he is the only Klingon appearing in the Next Generation movies from this point on.
The Blaster Beam would make a reappearance in this score. A mutation of his electronic "Blaster Beam" in a heavy, relentless minor key motif to portray the mechanized Borg. The Borg theme is used in different ways such as with the Blaster Beam, but also with heavy brass when the Borg Cube first appears.
A note should be taken that Joel Goldsmith also worked on this score because Jerry Goldsmith had run into scheduling conflicts and had difficulties completing The Ghost In The Darkness which is a fine score in itself.

And that's what Star Trek is all about, at least the original and first four spin off shows, the new so called Star Trek will touch no one the way the real Star Trek has and will continue to do so for generations to come. Tthe soul of Star Trek is simply about hope, especially in times where it seems hope as forsaken us. the closing scene where Lilly and Picard part ways is so touching, you can see the confidence in her eyes, secure in the knowledge that man does arrive at a golden future born in fire of strife and hardship, all because someone believed in a dream and dared to hope. Thank you for sharing your memory, the studios will never understand what this show means past their bottom line which is why they are destroying a legacy that took 60 years to build.

I think this main theme is the most beautiful one of all the Star Trek films. While all the others have this wonderful adventurous feel to them, this one is just. . . so soothing and heart lifting. It seems like a song to play while viewing all of the memories of Star Trek and the crews of the Enterprise, (both Kirk's and Picard's): The friendships, the brotherly love, the sacrifices, the bravery, the tears, the laughs, the resurrections, and most of all, in memory of all those we've lost-- Gene Roddenberry, Majel Barrett, DeForest Kelly, James Doohan, Grace Lee Whitney, and Leonard Nimoy and all the others.

If you know the Star Trek lore, you know that an apocalypse already happened before 2063. And look at the result :)My reasonings have nothing to do with this movie, but I have reason to believe that if an apocalypse, or some other great catastrophe/cataclysm, it will primarily kill the people who did not prepare, who sat there and let it happen.Other people, the more intelligent ones, who saw it coming, will be well hidden and well prepared to hide and wait it out, and then come back out when the dust settles. Then we'll carry on and make something like this happen.I'm not eager to see a nuclear winter, or anything like that, happen, but I am prepared for what may follow.

My 1st and only child was born on 1/28/2023. When I saw him laid on his mother’s chest, this song came to mind. When we were in our hospital room I whispered in my wife’s ear, “look, our son has awoken, after having never gone to sleep”. Later that night as I went to get coffee, I remembered what Carl Sagan said in one of his speeches, “What new wonders undreamt of in our time will we have wrought in another generation, and another”. I thought to myself, “my son’s generation will see Humans truly transition into the space age. His generation will see things that we have yet to imagine”. Then this song played again in my mind, and tears came.

I watched this film (again) last night, brilliant movie spin-off from The Next Generation series about the Borg. I loved the opening track by the brillian Jerry Goldsmith, beautifully done. This version seems to be a shorter version than the actual opening piece which has ends on that dramatic and sinister change, the original opening film score is about 4 minutes long at least.

I have seen this movie for a hundred times. My dad was a big Star Trek fan and he always watched this movie with me when I was a child. Now my dad and I have no contact anymore because he and my mum got divorced 8 years ago. Before he moved out of our flat he bought me a DVD, Star Trek-The first contact. I should watch it when I miss him and I should think of him while I'm watching the film. Now this Soundtrack makes me cry. Fantastic movie and fantastic music.

I don't know but some music has the power to get to the core of oneself and induce a certain
deep feeling of connect. This, for me, is one of them. What happens at 0:40 always brings tears
to my eyes because it is just THAT beautiful. I don't know where Jerry Goldsmith brought up
this sequence but it is just amazing!
The whole 'First Contact' score is fantastic and the movie equally so.

Totally agree. Honestly I'm not hating but I really can't abide the new stuff, feels like an entirely different IP just using the names and characters.
It's just so different, the CGI, the weird swooping camera pans every 2 seconds, the script feels very "appeal to the lowest common denominator" - even watching scenes on CZcams...man I can't do it. If people like it that's cool, I'm not gonna argue or police what people like.
Seems par for the course with IP reboots tbh, it's the same feeling I get comparing the first Jurassic Park with the new stuff, or the newer Star Wars.
