- This week we’re back in Poland, in the amazing city of Kraków checking out what might be one of the best Christmas Markets in Europe. This is actually our very first European Christmas market which makes it extra exciting for us!
Krakow’s Christmas Market takes place in the Main Market Square, which also happens to be one of the biggest squares in Europe.
While visiting the Christmas Market we try mulled wine (hot spiced wine also called Grzaniec Galicyjski in Polish), oscypek which is smoked sheep cheese from the south of Poland, Polish Pierogi, and potato pancakes.
While here we also check out the Christmas tree in the square, as well as the different stalls to see what types of things you can buy at the Krakow Christmas Market.

Kraków, a southern Poland city near the border of the Czech Republic, is known for its well-preserved medieval core and Jewish quarter. Its old town - ringed by Planty Park and remnants of the city’s medieval walls - is centered on the stately, expansive Rynek Glówny (market square). This plaza is the site of the Cloth Hall, a Renaissance-era trading outpost, and St. Mary’s Basilica, a 14th-century Gothic church.

That is no ranking 1,2,3,4.. those are simply all very very nice in their own way and definitively worth to visit.
Zagreb´s christmas market should be also very nice but I´ve never been there in December, that´s just what I´ve heard so far.

Julian Mach, I actually listened to that one yesterday, and some others. It is also very beautiful.
Since I have some Polish ancestry, listening to these songs is like discovering my Polish great-grandparents, who left Galicja for the US in the 1880s. I would like to think that they sang them long after they arrived here, but then, I was never taught any of them.

Ah we love Christmas in Europe! Coming from Australia, seeing the Christmas markets, eating nice warm food and drinking mulled wine is just magical. It's one of our favourite times of the year. We haven't been to Poland yet, but looks like we'll need to get over there soon! ❤️

Loved your video. We flew to Krakow on 26th December for 4 days (returned yesterday) and your video really captures the flavour (literally) of the market. I'm a simple Pole and I'll tell you something. Sour cream is lifestyle, sour cream is future, sour cream is the best topping for all kinds of stuff. English folks drinks tea with milk, I drink tea with sour cream.

My family is from Poland, I was even born there too. But we've been living in the United States for over 30 years. My mom used to make potato pancakes all the time when I was younger. They actually have onions in them too. But instead of sour cream, we'd actually top them with powered sugar. I know sounds weird...powered sugar on onion potatoes... but they were delicious. Especially when fresh!=)

Polish lesson:
One "pieróg" (ó=oo eg. wood)- singular
Two, three or four "pierogi" - plural (1)
Five, six, seven ... "pierogów" (pierogoov) - plural (2)
In our language plurality exists in two versions depending on the number. If there's more than 1 it is called pierogi but if it is more than 4 you would say 5( or 6 or 7 etc) pierogoov. It gets more complicated when the number of pierogoov is 22 then you would say 22 pierogi (not pierogoov) and it stays like that for every number that ends with numbers 2,3,4 ( for example 22,23,24 or 32,33,34 or 122,123,124 etc) greater numbers like 25,36,127 etc will have second form of plurality.
For some wired reason if there's 21 pierogów you wouldn't say 21 pieróg (singular) unless you counting pierogi which is similar to English when you say twenty first pieróg

Nice video. Makes me smile watching it. I was there with my wife week ago. Tasted those same foods. Wonderfull christmas market. The jewish quarter was allso very nice with so many restaurants and little bars. This was my first time in Poland. We will defanately go back.

"pierogi" is already plural
If pierogies sounds better in english it doesn't matter if it's already plural. We in Poland say "krakersy" "chipsy" and thoese words are also already plural. I dare you to speak from now on Czipy and Krakery, to be so correct.

"Pieróg" is singular; "Pierogi" is plural.
"Pierogies" creates a double plural, which is a mistake.

@@coolt324324234 Chipsy kupisz tylko w paczkach więc tylko chipsy ale możesz od kogoś z paczki poprosić jednego chipsa. Pieroga, pieróg jak najbardziej poprawnie.

Pierogi is plural, pieróg is singular. Other traditional polish food you must try next time are: bigos, gołąbki, schabowe, golonka, flaki, kapuśniak, grochówka and many more :) Greetings from Poland :)
