- Captain Underpants Reaction is today's video!
Hey everyone! Join me as I watch Captain Underpants for the first time and die laughing!
George Beard and Harold Hutchins are two overly imaginative pranksters who spend hours in a treehouse creating comic books. When their mean principal threatens to separate them into different classes, the mischievous boys accidentally hypnotize him into thinking that he's a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants.

This is adapted from several of the books, and is surprisingly faithful to the source material. The author of the books, Dav Pilkey, based his books on his own childhood experiences
Exactly, I’ll see if I can name them all...
Mr Krupp is hypnotised into being Captain Underpants (book 1)
Turbo Toilet 2000 appears (book 2 and 11) Also a carnival (book 2)
CU gets powers (book 3)
Poopypants appears (book 4) (also in books 9 and 10, but he’s Tinkletrousers for those books)
CU backstory (book 5)
Melvin being an antagonist (books 6 and 7)
George and Harold in kindergarten (book 9)
George and Harold being threatened to be put into different classes (book 11). However, the reasons why are different and they at least find a way to prevent it in the book...but consequences happen...
@@cyberdalek615, let's not forget Super Diaper Baby
@@15blackshirt And the wicked wedgie woman
Why don’t you check out Avatar the last Airbender one of Nickelodeon’s best TV series I think you’ll like that series and you will enjoy it!?
Probably the most faithful and accurate a book-to-film adaptation movie could be to its source material
This movie was surprisingly brilliant. The immature potty humor is a turnoff for a lot of people but this is one of the most accurate representation of kids (particularly boys) that I've seen. Not too unlikable, not too angelic, they act like real kids. I love that.
The books actually give a real explanation:
You know how when you're a baby it was a big deal when you started using the potty like a big kid, and the second you did it consistently you were basically forbidden from ever talking about it again?
Harold and George noticed this hypocrisy a long time ago and thus write and draw about it to challenge this hypocrisy.
"The immature potty humor is a turnoff."
My sibling in Christ. It is a movie about a bald dude wearing nothing but underwear and a cape fighting a giant robot toilet.
@@King_Calcium your point?
@oliviarogers2808 it's gonna have potty humor in it
@@King_Calcium sure
11:33 the entire book series starts with him being turned into captain underpants!
The differences:
They sabotaged a football game, not the invention convention (okay they did sabotage that too, but the point is they didn't do it in the first book) Pranks included putting pepper in the cheerleaders pompoms, pouring bubble bath into the marching band's big horns, and filling the football with helium.
He didn't threaten to separate them, he threatened to hand over the footage of their sabotage to the football team and let them beat them up. He wouldn't if they did everything he said.
One of them gets the idea to turn him into captain underpants and order the hypno ring.
The shrinking and enlarging machine are two different inventions.
I think that combining the shrinky pig and the goosey grow was a good choice
oh yeah and the turbo toilet 200 in the second book being drove by professor poopypants from the 4th book being in the first movie
Also they only threw the instructions of the hypno ring
If i remember they only get rid of the ring after wedgie woman
Also in the books the hypno ring wasn’t from a cereal box, George and Harold ordered it by mail
This movie has immature potty humor but it's executed really well with it finding a spin on a situation and that stuff. It deserves a sequel!
Proof you can do dumb humor well.
In one review, they discussed how it was done well because they didn't use potty humor as a quick excuse to a gag, but they used it to relate to kids who find it funny and to say it's okay to find dumb humor funny, it's not shameful to have a childish sense of humor.
I SO want this movie to get a sequel.
There is a Dog Man movie in the works right now.
@@morganspider-manmarvelfan6110
Yeah!! Really excited for that one!!
@@multiverseman4017 We don’t know when it’s coming out right now.
We all do. Can’t wait for the dog man movie it is already CONFIRMED!
me too
I gotta say, this is one of the best book to movie things I have ever seen. It’s not just retelling of the original book. It takes inspiration from all over the series to make a movie that can be considered its own thing!
As one who read the book, I was happy that Dreamworks stayed true to it and loving it so much. Great choice for a reaction
Hopefully, they’ll do the same thing with their Dog Man movie
@@morganspider-manmarvelfan6110 @Mason Jenks I hope they stay true for a sequel for Captain Underpants.
@@ethans9447 Same here
Also as a fan of books, I’ll admit the movie is better
And to think the original author of Captain Underpants, Dav Pilkey refused for years of any big name movie studio from adapting his book into film. He finally allowed it when he saw Shrek and saw that it’s best it was placed in DreamWorks’ hands.
I heard he didn’t want a movie til he was done with the book series, which ended with the twelfth book in 2015
I went to see it in theaters back in 2017, and when I did it was hilarious and I was laughing really really hard. I really do give this film a 100/100
BTW, the part where Captain Underpants got hit by a car actually left me and the entire theater laughing really really hard for a while
2:32 “Did you eat the proof?”
Dang almost made me spit out my water.
You’ve got yourself a new sub, I really enjoy your reactions!
I am a huge fan for Captain Underpants books and I read those when I was a kid. It gives me the greatest laugh ever
Was actually pretty surprised by this too! Can't say I was a big fan of the books as a kid (though I did own a couple), but I thought the film's self-aware, meta humor complimented its immature humor well! Was a fun time for sure; super-impressive voice cast acting too. Great reaction 🙌
Dav Pilkey, the book author, was a kid with ADHD in a time where this was seen as "spoiled kid" thing. While being punished for his disorders, literally on a desk outside the classroom, Dav created Captain Underpants and other comics, like George and Harold. His teacher scolded him and teared his comic books apart, saying he shouldn't waste time creating silly books. To quote a book about him, "Thank God Dav wasn't a good listener".
Something I feel like DreamWorks doesn't get enough credit for is adapting stories and book series into great pieces of animation. Like Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, the series of Trollhunters, Bad Guys, and Captain Underpants movie were all I believe based on each of their respective books. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure all of these are.)
And done with such brilliance of storytelling, stylistic animation, and lots of finesse that surprises even the harshest of critic.
im quite late but whatever
the entire how to train your dragon franchise, while amazing movies, arent accurate to their book counterparts in the slightest
in the books theres romans, slavery, banishment, and a whole lot of other things

Edit: Thanks for telling me about the httyd books.
What a surprise! I absolutely LOVED this movie. I grew up reading Captain Underpants. And this movie captures the humor and immatueness of the books. Can't wait to see your reaction. 😆
Not ashamed to admit that I was one of the few adults that watch this. Still my favorite kid book series other than goosebumps
One of my favorite Dreamworks animated movies, and now, because of this movie, and the author, I can’t stop reading all of the Dog Man and Cat Kid Comic Club books, and now Dreamworks has a Dog Man movie in the works, and I want to see that.
Same
@@lexramstudios1386 Yeah. I wasn’t a fan of the books when I was a kid, so when I heard about this movie, I, at first, thought “There’s no way I’m going to see this movie.”, but then I watched the trailer and I thought “Hey, give the movie a chance”, so I saw it, and now I love reading the books.
One of the most Hilarious animated movies ever, I adore this movie.
I’m almost 18,, and this movie really brought me back to when I read the comics in elementary school, I even remember my school district banning the books because they were seen as “inappropriate”. So it makes me happy that Dreamworks made this movie happen, cause it was such a great comic series that although I don’t like the humor sometimes, I know it’s making someone else happy. The creator, Dav Pilkey, was told at a young age that he can’t spend the rest of his life making silly comics, and he proved everyone wrong, he truly inspires me.
To those who never read the book series, this movie is a mashup of the first 4 books
I remember reading these books as a kid i loved them a lot.
Childish potty humour done intelligently is the only way I can describe the humour in this! X D
It was one of the best adaptations of a book series to film ever in my opinion.
By the way the lunch lady is the same actress that did Mabel from Gravity Falls
You do know Melvin is voiced by “Get Out” director:Jordan Peele, right.?
I actually never got super into the books growing up but I still adored this movie. The captain himself is hilarious and I loved the different types of animation used like sock puppets. Plus weird Al's song at the end! A follow up would be alot of fun!
16:03 I laughed soo soo hard on this one 😂😂😂
One of the film’s best jokes 🤣
I had a fun time with this movie in theaters and I laughed so hard and I have read the books when I was in Elementary school.
When Professor Poopypants is introduced in the books, his plan was to give everyone in the world a new silly name and at one point he came up with a system that allowed you to create a silly name. I did it for myself and I thought it was funny.
This movie was made with an abnormally small budget. The irony of that is that this animation style is about a hundred times more timeless and appealing than most of what Pixar tries to do. Not that Pixar's animation is bad but let's be real, sometimes they can get a bit obsessive with realism.
You know how you know the creators of this movie cared about the books? The fact that during the mime scene you can see the Everything Except Fabric Softener store-
This is legitimately in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. It's a kids movie, and it's supposed to be nothing but that. You take it seriously? To that I say, "Poopypants." It's fun, it's amazing, and... yeah!
Melvin's "Binder binder" is literally trying and failing to replace multi-subject binders and notebooks. Also how tf is anyone going to carry that around in a backpack?
I haven’t seen this movie for 2 years
And I really wanna watch it again
Keep up the amazing movie reactions Cody! I loved this movie reaction!
I love this movie so much. I can't stop laughing at it
❤️❤️❤️🤣🤣🤣
The pranks that these guys did are really cool and funny, i to love it when characters break the fourth wall to Cody. They really should do that in movies more often, and the style of this movie is very different and awesome.
In the books, George and Harold were very much aware that they are characters in a children’s book. So the forth wall breaks in this movie are an adaptation of that
YES!! Some of my favorite book series as a kid and they just did SO GOOD with this. So mu h love, so much spirit, AND A WEIRD AL END CREDITS SONG!!?? YES PLEASE!!!
Wish you had stuck around for the credits song that's sung by Weird Al. He had a lot of homages and references to him in the books, so he gladly took up the offer to perform a song for the movie.
And to think author Dav Pilkey is a fan of Weird Al too.
I just noticed that the page-a-day calendar in the office said April 28 for the whole movie, even though it took place over several days. I can't help but feel that that was intentional. 😂
9:39
That cut out just made it funny because there's not even context to what happened making him scream
I LOVE THIS MOVIE! I’m so glad you saw this
One thing. This movie is my favorite animated comedy movie.
I think him being dumb is the comedy of it.
Professor P’s is like also the one of the comedic parts of the movie.
Melvin is like the nerdy snitch but it goes with the movie in my opinion.
There’s the pranksters and then there is Melvin who is the nerdy snitch and then there is Professor P who hates fun and had a connection with Melvin because they like school and are not into comedy.
So this has the chemistry I saw in the movie.
Definitely one of the best adapted movies in the books, very respectful of the source material 😍😍😍
5:43 2017: Catchy Song
2022: I LOVE P-
If you like the animation, than I recommend you watch The Peanuts Movie. It has basically the same animation style despite coming from different studios.
The Peanuts Movie is literally one of the best movies ever made.
By the way, something you'd like to find out, the lunch lady is also Mabel 😄

Captain underpants has been my Favorite book series when I was a kid and it still is.
Yes I’ve been waiting for you to watch this one, one of my favorite animated movies!
I actually read the Captain Underpants comics when I was in school. And I got the film on BLU Ray.
I read all the Captain Underpants graphic novels when I was younger and I loved them all! I love the references of the books in this movie!
The books actually give a real explanation for why they use so much toilet humor:
You know how when you're a baby it was a big deal when you started using the potty like a big kid, and the second you did it consistently you were basically forbidden from ever talking about it again?
Harold and George noticed this hypocrisy a long time ago and thus write and draw about it to challenge this hypocrisy.
Great reaction! This was a really fun one!
One of the best my childhood animation movie! Glad u reacted this!
2:50 I don't know what to say
There's a tiger in a classroom
I been wait for this reaction
As someone who grew up reading the book series, this is easily one of my favorite animated movies of all time! It completely captured both the humor and the heart of the books, and seeing it in theaters made me feel like a kid again.
I already feel sorry for this teacher that's lonely 15:00
Love your videos! keep the good work!

My Favorite Animated Superhero Movie
I remember reading captain underpants when, I was a kid. Also, I remember watching this movie on 📀 5 years ago.
😁Captain Underpants was my favorite book series as a child and is still my favorite to this day as an adult. I remember the times when I was a kid I would always buy Captain Underpants books when there is a book fair at my elementary school. 😊Ahhh, sweet childhood memories, I miss those days.😔
I'd like to thank u for taking our request on this movie!
You should've saw the Post Credit scene to this you'll definitely laugh 😂😂
There's actually a Netflix series that works as sequel
10:35 My year 2 teacher brought in her toddler to meet us one day so I got the idea that they have lives outside of the school then. Was still a surprise 6 years later to see a new (young) teacher listening to his iPod at the bus stop
Their song, hallelujah, was actually enjoyed that me and my friend would sing this as our joy song mood.
I wasn’t Expecting this but this is my 2nd favorite Dreamworks movie.
We need an captan underpants the first epic movie 2
2:51 the funniest part is that’s the same tiger from the Hangover movie
I'll try to explain all the references to the books...(oh boy)
1. The giant robot Professor Poopypants uses to attack the school is it's own villain in the second Captain Underpants book, along with the mini talking toilets who appear at the end of the film. He comes back in book 11.
2. Captain Underpants actually gets his powers in book 3 from 'Alien Super-power juice.
3. The nasty cafeteria food Poopypants uses to power the Turbo Toilet 2000 is exactly what kills him and his Talking Toilet underlings in the second book.
3. There are 3 cafeteria ladies in the books. They're all too ederly for Mr. Krupp to date. They quit in book 3 and the book's villains, the evil aliens, take their place.
4. Poopypants is the antagonist of books 4, 9, and 10. He becomes a villain thanks to George and Harold making fun of him with their comics and tries to take over Earth but is arrested. He comes back in book 9 and accidentally changes the past and ruins the future, so he fixes it. In book 10, he chases George, Harold and Captain Underpants into dinosaur times after inadvertently creating three versions of himself, who all die in somewhat scary ways.
5. Melvin Sneedly (the school nerd and tattletale) first appears in book 2 creating the device George and Harold use to accidentally bring the toilets to life. He becomes the main villain in book 6. He tries to combine himself with a robot to get back at George and Harold, but accidentally sneezes, adding boogers to the mix and becoming The Bionic Booger Boy. In the end, he's blown into three pieces and successfully separated from him nasty booger body. But, the 3 sections come to life and terrorize the group in book 7.
6. The villain of the first book was a short old man in a diaper, named Dr. Daiper, who wanted to blow up the moon. He was taken to jail.
Wow...this was a lot...
This movie is my childhood! I remembered when I was in 4th grade reading the books!
i absolutely adored these books as a kid cause they were just such dumb humor and made me laugh in the bad times and when j saw this movie coming out i knew i was gonna see it lol
The first time I watched I thought that credits part was the ending lol
Finally you watched this Underrated masterpiece
Am still glad that people remember this movie this is the best movie dream works has ever made

Technically, all the planets are named after Roman Gods so it must have actually been on the Roman's who knew what they were doing when they renamed the Greek Gods. Yep, they must not have liked the God of the Sky very much when they named him Uranus.
Edith has the same VA as Sadness from Inside Out and it fits so well
Actually no, the voice actress of Mabel Pines does the voice of Edith. Inside Out Sadness' voice actress is a different person.
@@fixinit1401 oof, that’s awkward. They do sound pretty similar
I loved this bc it was a chunk of childhood made into a movie
Captain underpants has book and graphic novel. He was not the principal in the graphic novel, which would be the comics written by George and Harold but he was in the story
There was a follow up tv series that serves as kinda of a spliced mashup of both the books and the movie on Netflix.
I was confused watching the Netflix show cause it didn’t even TRY to be consistent with the movie, despite having the Dreamworks label
Purple is my favorite colour too
That movie is my favorite childhood comic book🔥♥️ when I was middle school
When they made the uranus joke when my Mom watched this with me, I thought she'd get really offended.
