Billy Preston was an American soul artist. The Beatles met him when he was touring Europe with Little Richard in the early 60s. Preston happened to be in London in ‘69 when The Beatles were recording Let It Be. They asked him to sit in on keyboard and he recorded several songs with them that ended up on Let It Be and Abbey Road. He also performed on the rooftop concert that this video is from. Preston had a couple of big hits in the 70s; Will It Go Round In Circles and Nothing From Nothing, both soulful and funky songs. He also performed in the memorial concert for Beatle George Harrison after his passing. Billy Preston is certainly worth a listen.
I do wish that Billy Preston had gotten bit more screen time on that for sure man. But we do have some good footage of him playing with the Beatles and also with I think I saw one with an Elvis rehearsal once. And then if you fast forward only a few years, some of his live stuff when he really broke out and was doing songs like Will It Go Round In Circles, is just so fantastic. That whole musical and cultural scene was just so integrated.
Love your insights regarding microphone stands, sexy guitars, sideburns and beards..they are spot on. I was 9 years old when this happened, your perspective helps bring it back to life for me!
It's funny you called him the fifth Beatle. Billy Preston was considered to be a Fifth Beatle by many. He was the only person to be given credit on a Beatles record. On the Get Back single, it was credited as "The Beatles with Billy Preston". Billy was a great friend of all The Beatles way back from their Hamburg days.
Gotta feel for those 2 cops who were sent up to tell them that the neighbours had complained about the noise and they had to stop (probably the most iconic gig in history)...... like something from Monty Python.....
Greeting Sir!! Today, I would LOVE to suggest a brand new song entitled "Dissociation", by the French Canadian Death Metal/Classical project named "Disorientation". This is a lyric video* Thank you for your attention and have a nice day ;)
Gotta give props to the feature on this: Billy Preston on the keys totally makes this song vibe.
