    ► On the 25th of January 2020, I performed a live aquascaping demo at the ScapersLounge in Hanau, Germany. The event was in the German language, but I have recorded the entire creation process for you and in this video, I will give you a brief summary of a 4-5h event.

    ---------
    I have started with an empty 120x50x50cm clear glass aquarium. As hardscape material, I have used pre-glued minilandscape rocks. They are sold locally as China-Mountains. Some kind of Rock pyramids available in different sizes with a flat base making it easy to position them inside the aquarium.
    I have used the same rocks before for the #dentistaquarium which was inspired by Takashi Amano Unzan Stones that he first used in the ADA Nature Aquarium Gallery and later in the Sumida Aquarium 7m long Iwagumi.
    However, the layout I created at the ScapersLounge is different. It is more diorama style or maybe Penjing because I don't have carpeting plants and only used epiphytic plants. (Plantlist below)
    To achieve the dense look one has either to break the pyramid structure or order "damaged" rocks (like I did) to save some cost and also recycle the units that have been damaged in transport.
    I have arranged approximately 100+ kg of these rocks in diagonal lines rising from front to back and balanced the composition with several small pieces around the base.
    A layer of cosmetic sand has been added to the layout before the final touches with the smallest rock pieces were added to finalize the hardscape.
    Using the China-Mountain Rocks really makes it easy to build an impressive Diorama Style Rock layout with a lot of height. The largest rock is sticking 10cm above the water surface!
    I started planting by wedging portions of Montecarlo in deeper cracks and gaps between the rocks. Montecarlo is not going to attach by itself to the rocks, so you have to choose the positions wisely and make sure the plant sits securely. Next, I have cleaned Anubias petite and Bucephalandra sp. 'Red' from rockwool and stuck them in between stones close to the ground as well as glued some to strategic positions. I tried to create a green base around the base of the rocks with Anubias and to have some Bucephalandra highlights around the lower mid of the rocks. Next, some Moss has been glued on rocks and positioned randomly around the rocks. Again, since we don't have a carpeting plant here, I wanted at least to have some sort of green base around the stones. Finally, Hygrophila pinnatifida has been attached to the rocks. I recommend using the tissue culture (invitro, 1-2-grow) version of this plant as it is compact and already has a branchy structure that makes it easy to be stuck between rocks or be super-glued to rocks. Actually, there is no right or wrong when applying pinnatifida. In the end, It is going to fully cover the rocks. So simply make sure to spread it evenly all around the rocks to speed up the process.

      Jurijs Jutjajevs , I would like to see South American “green neon tetra” (Paracheirodon simulans) in that tank. The colouring of the fish could compliment your scape. The schooling behaviour of the fish would add to the tranquility of your creation. My second choice would be Green Kubotai Rasbora.

      I suggest Pseudomugil furcatus.
      They are very active, stay small and they are different than usual suspects...
      You think outside the box so the fish have to be also spectacular.

      @@JurijsJutjajevs Well, CZcams land - once you begin following aquascaping, contains some incredible scapes. Looking through the current work of the top scapers, it feels like you guys are all up there. So to see this scape, which just feels different - it just feels like it has a deeper sense of scale and depth, was just a breath of fresh air. The fact you didnt even know what style it was, or how to really describe the style, also adds credence to the fact it is so original. I realise there was no carpeting and just a fine selection of beautifully placed epiphyte plants, which I think makes it even more special. I think the fact of it lacks carpeting plants gives it more scale. The selection of rocks is brilliant, the mini landscaping rocks giving the huge rocks scale. It looks aggressive and menacing one moment, then majestic and serene the next. Ive spent a long time just looking at this scape! Its brilliant, well done :) Thanks for sharing.

    This is so nice, Jurijs. I like that you used a minimal selection of plants, which really is in keeping with what might be a natural habitat that a human might walk into...especially where I live in the desert. I think a fish like the Black Phantom Tetra would be lovely in this aquarium. High quality species have beautiful, high dorsal fins that curve back toward the spine when mature, and the females have a lovely touch of red in their fins. Thank you for sharing this scape with us!

Maybe Paracheirodon simulans? Green neon tetra. They are blue and stand out on background of red Higrophillas. Breathtaking and full of places to insert plants. When you use Monte Carlo like this, do you add a bit of soil in the crevasse or nothing? Again congrats. Great scape. I've been learning a lot from your channel - thank you. I have bought this type of rock two years ago and it was sold as mini landscape rock at my LFS in Toronto. When I researched online, apparently Japan had banned the export of seiryu rocks in the early 00s. Is there a difference? Mine does have a lot of the white veins and was blueish hue when first setup. Now it's a very dark grey like in this video. Either way I think it's a great rock to work with and it certainly not as expensive as what I've seen sold as seiryu online. Retail is $2.99/lbs CAD = € 0.64/ 0.45 kg

I have seen similar rocks my self in Austria Alp mountains and at the Gibraltar mountain. I guess there must be more locations around the world

      @@JurijsJutjajevs if undecided on fish stock still I would suggest a bunch of German blue rams. Not typical fish that would be used for awesome setups but they are good with plants and are slow eaters. They stay small and very colourful too.

    Hi Jurijs, question for you - how to prepare hygrophila pinnatifida for potted ones? they always come too big.. so where should i trim them before sticking them to my hardscape?

    • @JurijsJutjajevs
      @JurijsJutjajevs  Před 4 lety

      if they already have side shoots, trim above the side shoots and use the bottom part, you can also use the trimmings, just squeeze them somewhere inbetween the rocks. if they dont have side shoots yet, keep 2 pairs of leafs and cut the top, you can create several cuttings this way, basically stalks with 2-3 pairs of leafs can be used

      If conditions are good, it grows very well straight from the beginning. You might try attaching it to Hardscape, instead of planting into the soil

    Hey juris,
    Is it possible to make a nearly long life aquascape for endler guppys ?

    • @JurijsJutjajevs
      @JurijsJutjajevs  Před 4 lety

      Sure, with right plant choice and good maintenance one can keep an aquascape for many many years. Best example is Takashi Amano private Aquarium in his house. I think it was build 2004 and its still the same layout.

    I still struggling with pinnatifida in my tank, I buy it emersed and cut with no root. I planted it on rock for 2 weeks. most of its leaves fall off and still no root or new leaf. some remaining leaves are changing into brown, is it still possible to adapt and survive?

    Hey Jurijs, I know English is obviously not your first language, but when you say the word "gel," you pronounce it with a hard 'G', but it is actually pronounced with a soft 'G' sound so the 'G' will sound like a 'J'. Pretend it is spelled like "Jel" instead of "Gel" :) basically it'll sound like "Jello" without the "O" at the end
    Anyways, fantastic hardscape. I think it would look awesome with some rhinogobius species in there. They would look like little rock climbers climbing a mountain when they sit on the rocks.
