Kurt's Grandpa Curt ski-jumped from that Richmond Park Olympic Scale ski-jump as a young teen. One Saturday he rode to Richmond Park in a Bylsma's Dairy milk truck. He was working that day. Uncle Bud was driving. He said, "You've got 15 minutes. Then back in the truck. We've got milk to deliver!"
So 12 year old Curt grabbed his old skis from the Divco, climbed to the peak, and launched himself.
After he landed, he threw his skis back in the truck, and ran with the glass milk jugs the rest of the day.
I often climb the hill at Richmond Park. I picture my Dad Curt as a twelve year old climbing to the peak of the ski jump...
How did he dare to launch into the air with only two old boards under him?
How did he learn to work so hard at such a young age?
He showed me how for the rest of his life:
Fearless.
Quitless.
